TesseracTTalk about what's coming in 2012 and about a few
things in the past. . .
How was the recording of "One"?
I t was so long ago I can barely remember! I t took quite a
while. . . The first version we recorded was scrapped
because we weren't happy, and there were numerous takes
for the guitars and vox to get them right. . We got there in
the end though and are very happy with the result!
"Concealing Fate" was previously released in advance,
months before the release of "One". Being the song
such a monster, was it one of those songs that you just
couldn't handle in keeping to yourselves or was there
another reason behind the early release?
This is a rather boring reason, but we toured the U.S. last
autumn and we needed something to sell to help pay for the
trip. the EP was only ever intended to be a small US release
for that purpose, but it caught on worldwide which was
great.
There hasn't been an official release of the song live in
concert. Are we ever going to see live footage from the
song?
There are no plans to do that, but it's definitely something
we can think about in future! Right now we're focused on
getting our next EP finished which is predominantly
acoustic, and then finishing album two.
Many people see "One" as a enhanced version of
"Concealing Fate EP", with bonus tracks and a bonus
DVD, with the filming of the song at the studio. Was it a
way to give more to your audience?
Yeah. As half the album was already available we really
wanted to include as much in the package as possible.
Amos (bass) came up with the idea to record it l ive and is
good mates with the guy at Sphere studios where it was
recorded, so he made it happen!
Would you like to see an adaptation of the song to a
short fiction film? If so, what would it's main theme be
behind it, or what story you think it would tell?
Yeah, that would be awesome! The lyrical content is about
personal experiences of our previous singer Dan, so I
guess if i t was to reflect the songs directly, then he'd best
answer this ha-ha. Musical ly I think anything EPIC would fit.
You now have a new vocalist, Elliot Coleman. How is he
adapting into TesseracT?
He's doing very well . He was massively thrown in the deep
end as we all met for the first time a week before our first
headline tour of the UK, but has risen to the challenge
amazingly. We can't wait to get stuck into the second
album, which is where he wil l real ly start to shine.
What can we expect for 201 2?
The EP I mentioned earl ier and hopeful ly a new album. The
album basical ly depends on how much we get done in the first
half of next year, We're then going to be touring all over again,
and hopeful ly playing some of the festivals.
Recently you joked about an album title that could really
suit the band. Was it solely a joke or could "Neophobia"
actually be a hint of what TesseracT are preparing?
No. I t was simply a joke about al l the people who posted unkind
comments on our page about Ell iot. We're total ly understanding
of the people who wanted to voice their disappointment that
Dan left, and they have every right to express their opinions.
But when people post direct attacks on our page it's upsetting,
so this was our l i ttle joke in response.
When can we see TesseracT return to Portugal?
Hopeful ly next year as part of a European tour, or maybe even
a festival. We played our first international show in Portugal
back in 2008 at the Chaos Emergente festival, which was
awesome, so we can't wait to come back!
