WORDS OF THANKS

This thesis would not have been made without the help and support of many. I wouldlike to extend my sincere gratitude to all those who made it possible.

I thank Erik, my first promoter. Without him this project would never have beenrealized. It was through a series of coincidences that I came to hear of his studies withTENS. The talk he gave at the European Graduate School of Child Neuropsychology inthe spring of 1998 was the seed that started the sprouting of this thesis. I thank you Erikfor all your help and unrelenting support through these last several years. I thank youfor always believing in me and assuring me that this would be possible, in spite of meliving and working in another country. I thank you for your invaluable expert scientificguidance. I thank you for your endless patience and good humour. I thank you and yourwife, Sylvia, for all your assistance on my trips to Amsterdam and Groningen. I thank you

for inviting me to your home and making me feel like one of the family. Special thanks toSylvia for introducing me to the exciting world of antique auctions.
