homes during the holiday season, but where did this tradition get its start?

The tradition o evergreens or Christmas wreaths began in the early 19th century

in northern Europe, Italy and Spain. In ancient Rome, victory and celebration were

observed by people using decorative wreaths. Hanging a wreath on a ront door was

considered the strength o lie overcoming the orces o winter. The Christmas colors o

red and green, represent the continuance o lie through the winter. At Christmas, the

wreath symbolizes Christian immortality. Wreaths as a symbol o lie are also used by

the Egyptians, Chinese and Hebrews. For Christians, greenery represents eternal

lie through Christ, and red has symbolized the shedding o blood by Jesus

at his crucifxion.
