What . . .• Falls to Earth at a rate of 30,000
metric tons a day?• Have you probably eaten before in a
salad?• Are remnants of the time when the
solar system formed 4.6 billion years ago?

Did you Know?• A 12-year old’s solar cell may
revolutionize the energy industry.• He developed his solar cell as part of a
science fair project.• He developed a solar cell that is 3
dimensional instead of 2 dimensional and has the possibility to collect up to 500 times as much solar energy as traditional solar cells.
• What important discovery will you make while completing your science fair project??

The Science of Fractals• They contain Large
Degrees of self-similarity
• They are closely related to computer graphics, programming, and mathematics
• They can be seen in nature in clouds, lightning bolts, and snowflakes
• A study of fractals would make a great science fair project!
![Page 13: 09 02-2011-science fair](https://reader035.fdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022070301/546a759aaf79596c268b4c67/html5/thumbnails/13.jpg)
What is the Science and Engineering Fair?
• A chance to do real scientific research in a science or engineering field
• A long-term commitment that will requirement you to complete the majority of the work on your own
• A chance to share your project results with scientists in the field
• A chance to compete in the Gwinnett Regional Science and Engineering Fair – and maybe even the State fair!
![Page 14: 09 02-2011-science fair](https://reader035.fdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022070301/546a759aaf79596c268b4c67/html5/thumbnails/14.jpg)
What the fair is not:
• A place to present library research projects
• A place to present projects that model science events like hurricanes and volcanoes
• A place to complete projects based on studies that have already been completed
![Page 15: 09 02-2011-science fair](https://reader035.fdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022070301/546a759aaf79596c268b4c67/html5/thumbnails/15.jpg)
Your Next Steps• Start asking questions! What
are you curious about? Is it something you can figure out scientifically.
• What kinds of science do you like? Plants, stars, chemistry, physics?
• Start researching to get ideas and see what may be a possibility for you to do a project on.

Remember - • You will be developing
your project following scientific methods
• Your logbook will become the MOST IMPORTANT part of your science fair project
• We will have scheduled log book checks. Write everything in your logbook!
