    REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES, FEBRUARY 8, 2012

    The Board of Trustees:

    Approved minutes of previous meeting. Received certificates of appreciation in celebration of School Board Member RecognitionWeek in Mississippi, February 19-25, 2012. Received the monthly financial status report. Approved the claims docket for payment of accounts. Acknowledged the report on bus repairs/expenses and the monthly report on the use of

    school buses for special events.

    Granted the Columbia High School Show Choir and musical cast members permission totravel out-of-state to New York for a NYC Educational Trip June 14-18, 2012.

    Approved the following fund raising activities: Columbia Elementary School Student Councilsell Valentines Photographs on February 14, 2012, and Shamrocks in March (The teacher

    who receives the most Shamrocks will dress-up as a Leprechaun.); Columbia High School

    Band Boosters sell annual steak dinner and host a Ford Motor Company Test Drive Event on

    Saturday, May 5, 2012 (Ford Motor Company will donate $20.00 per person (up to 300

    people) for test driving a Ford vehicle.); CHS Show Choir sell King Cakes (The cakes will be

    delivered on February 25, 2012.); and Columbia High School Jean Days on Leap Day -

    February 29, 2012, St. Patricks Day March 16, 2012, and Spring Fling Day April 20, 2012

    (CHS will celebrate Leap Year by charging $2.29 per person each Jean Day.)

    Accepted donations from the ExxonMobil Foundation as a result of Mr. Gerald Creelsvolunteer work - $1,000.00 to purchase science supplies and equipment for Columbia

    Elementary School and $1,000.00 to provide students positive behavior support at

    Columbia High School.

    Approved the request for authorization to discard one computer (tag #2686, purchased7/28/1998) that is beyond repair.

    Approved the request to return 150 Kindles for a 100% refund and remove Kindles from theDistricts fixed asset inventory.

    Adopted the proposed 2012-2013 school year calendar. Approved the recommendation to terminate Angela Harris as custodian for central offices,

    effective January 30, 2012.

    Approved the employment Walter Denton as head football coach at Columbia High School(replacing Doug Norris) pending a release from Walthall County School District; Steve Odom

    as head track coach at Columbia High School (replacing Doug Norris); Chaz Ladner as

    assistant track coach at Columbia High School (replacing Steve Odom); Reuben McDowell,

    Wynne Maily, and Beth Pierce be paid $200.00 each to play in the Orchestra for the 2012

    Columbia High School musical; Teresa Brewer as a SPED teacher assistant at Columbia

    Primary School (new position), effective January 31, 2012; Katina Martin as a custodian at

    Columbia Elementary School, effective January 31, 2012 (replacing Alice Rayford); andGlendol Collins and Stacy Nolan as after-school workers for the 21

    stCentury Community

    Learning Center on an as needed basis at a professional rate of $25.00 per hour, effective

    February 1, 2012.

    Approved the recommendation for continued employment of district administrators for the2012-2013 school year.

    Was informed of certificates of completion for board development training, timeline forfiling Mississippi Ethics Commission Statement of Economic Interest, and NSBA Southern

    Regional Conference to be held in Biloxi, MS, July 23-26, 2012.

    Discussed a personnel matter in executive session. Denied a request for an exception to the Districts Use of School Facilities Policy.
