Logic and DesireAfter graduating from ETH and working at the office of Rem Koolhaas in Rotterdam in the 1990s, the Eckert brothers Piet and Wim founded E2A in 2001 in Zurich, and since then they have combined work in their studio with teaching. In their projects they look for answers to real problems through abstract ideal mod-els, with the conviction that conflicts are funda-mental triggers in a significant design process. Their work encompasses a host of typologies, varying the rules of the game but with a con-stant style characterized by pure geometries and regular rhythms that reflect the discrepan-cies between desire and possibility in a logical framework of organizational clarity.

E2A architectsDespués de graduarse en la ETH y tras su paso por la oficina de Rem Koolhaas, donde ambos trabajaron en los años 1990, los hermanos Piet y Wim Eckert fundaron en 2001 su propio estudio en Zúrich, desde entonces han compaginado su trabajo en él con la docencia. Sus proyectos buscan ofrecer respuestas a problemas reales proponiendo a la vez modelos ideales abstrac-tos, y entendiendo los conflictos como desenca-denantes del proceso de diseño. Su obra abarca un sinfín de tipologías, variando las reglas de juego pero manteniendo un estilo constante de geometrías puras y ritmos regulares que reco-gen las discrepancias entre deseo y posibilidad en un marco lógico y de claridad organizativa.

The ShedThe western end of Manhattan, where the High Line meets Hudson Yards, is the home of The Shed, a new center for artistic creation and research designed by Diller Scofidio + Renfro. The complex, currently under con-struction, will open in the spring of 2019. With six levels for cultural programs and for all types of performing and visual arts, the building is covered with a mobile shell that can colonize the adjacent plaza, generating a space for large-scale interventions. The pro-posal is embedded in the base of an adjoining residential tower and offers a wide range of possible configurations, which guarantee the center’s adaptation to future needs.

El británico fue el ganador del concurso internacional organizado por el Grupo Santander para transformar el edificio, en el Paseo de Pereda de la capital cántabra, en un museo de arte que contará con una inversión de 40 millones de euros.

Con motivo del 20 aniversario de la apertura al público en París de la Biblioteca Nacional, obra clave en la trayectoria de Dominique Perrault, el francés ha organizado una exposición sobre el proyecto que podrá visitarse hasta el 22 de julio.

The British architect has triumphed in the Santander Group’s international competition for the chance to transform company headquarters on the Cantabrian capital’s Paseo de Pereda into a museum of art, with an investment of 40 million euros.

In line with the 20th anniversary of the public opening of the National Library of France, a milestone in the career of Dominique Perrault, the French architect has put together an exhibition on his design that can be visited until 22 July.

On view through 2 September at the Basilica Palladiana in Vicenza is a presentation of 20 recent projects by David Chipperfield Architects. It includes items ranging from sketches and working models to construction details, photographs, and videos.
