Seat Height can determine how easy it is to get in and out of the chair. The correct seat height can be calculated by measuring the distance from the floor to the crease at the back of the knees. When seated the hips and knees should be at right angles whilst your feet are flat on the floor.

Seat Width should be wide enough to allow you to sit comfortably whilst reading but narrow enough to enable you to make use of the armrests. Ideally it should be the width of your hips plus a clenched fist on either side.

Seat Depth needs to be deep enough to support the full length of the thighs. When seated you should be able to place two fingers together between the edge of the seat and the back of the knee.

Modern rise and recline lift chairs are very reliable and most models even come with a battery back-up feature so that the user is not stuck in the event of a power cut. The battery will power the chair for two or three lifts only, but will ensure that the user is not left sitting in the incorrect position, and is not stranded. Safety is also very important, so particular attention needs to be paid so that children and others do not play with or around the rise and recline chair.

The different types of rise and recline chairs offer different levels of support and comfort. As well as the level of comfort and support offered, your size should also be taken into consideration.
