had fun during

ASHA 2015

Professors Maribel Abadia, Lushana Rosario, Mildred

Del Valle and Dr. Centeno presented their clinical

work at the 2016 ASHA Connect Conference held in

Minneapolis, Minnesota. During July 8-10 ASHA

blended ASHA’s Schools conference and Health Care

& Business Institute in one.

We had the opportunity to share ideas about future

research collaborations with Dr. Cesar Ruiz from La

Salle University, PA

Parents, family members, and faculty enjoyed the activities prepared

by our PROLLEG students. A closing activity to celebrate participants

learning experiences was conducted during July 2016. It was a great

journey, not easy but definitively worth it!

This year ProLLEG Supervisors were Professors Yanira

Figueroa and Maribel Abadia

Interns worked hard but also learned about

Emergent Literacy

During our 2nd Annual Picnic students from other programs were invited, the activity included a Blanket Contest.

UT MSLP students in Action

Intern experiences during this year at Hospital Menonita included to

participate in a staffing meeting with the Nutrition and Dietetic team about

the use of thickening agents for liquids provided by Nestle company.

Graduate Students Ivelisse Zeno

and Marilu Alejandro represented

our program at Simposio de Salud,

Interns with their clinical Supervisor Dr. Awilda Rosa at Hogar La

Providencia

As part of Aphasia Awareness Month students visited Las Catalinas Mall to provide information to the

community about Aphasia and its treatment. People of all ages received flyers, brochures related to

swallowing disorders, cognitive disorders among other conditions. Recommendations and answers were

provided to people as needed.

2016 UT MSLP CLASS

2016 MSLP Class: your

faculty members are

proud of you!

Congratulations!

This year “research celebration” poster session was a great success. Our students presented at the Primer Coloquio de Investigadores de la Escuela Ciencias de la Salud. The enthusiastic crowd consisted of over 100 visitors including SUAGM IRB representatives, UT faculty, students, and family members. This year the poster presentation started after Dr. Raul Garcia Rinaldi’s conference.

Congratulations to all students!

UT MSLP Class & the Primer Coloquio de

investigadores 2016 Two students from our MSLP program won a special recognition

awards during the poster presentation. Ivelisse Zeno (Advisor Dr.

Centeno) and Cristina Villalon (Advisor Dr. Pintado) were the

winners.

Conferences and CEU’s

CEU’s credits free of cost were offered to our clinical supervisors

during Spring. Dr. Centeno was the presenter, the conference was

held in the Rosello Museum and the conference topic was Pediatric

Dysphagia . Was great to meet and greet UT Supervisors in

Campus.

In June Dr. Luis Riquelme, CCC-SLP, BCS-S and Dr. Centeno

presented a two days Dysphagia workshop including topics in

assessment, instrumentation and treatment for adults.

Aphasia Awareness Month

For third year our grad students donated materials for the elderly community as part of the activities of

the Aphasia Awareness Month. Our Governor Alejandro Garcia Padilla signed the “proclama” for third

consecutive year after Dr. Centeno request. Interns and faculty members visited Las Catalinas Mall to

educate and to provide information about Aphasia to the community.

New Building! Our new building hosted School of Health Sciences 15 years Anniversary celebration,

also a month later the new building was inaugurated. Our Dean Dr. Bou received all

guest and our students guided the visitors through our new spaces.
