12th AIAA/ISSMO MultidisciplinaryAnalysis and Optimization Conference

For over twenty years, the biennial AIAA/ISSMO Multidisciplinary Analysis

and Optimization (MA&O) Conerence has brought together industry

practitioners, government employees, and academics to present and discuss

the latest developments in multidisciplinary design, analysis, and optimization.

Multidisciplinary analysis and optimization is rapidly becoming a standard element

o contemporary design methodologies. With signifcant advances in computing

algorithms and power, impressive analysis and optimization applications have been

successully carried out in industry, government, and academia alike. Additionally,

theoretical developments ranging rom new optimization algorithms to approaches

or design system robustness and reliability have played a signifcant role in the ever-

growing acceptance o multidisciplinary design and optimization. Historically, the

MA&O Conerence has provided a comprehensive view o the state o the art. For the

frst time in its history, the MA&O Conerence will be held outside the United States,

reecting the global reach this event has achieved.

    SPECIAL EVENTS

Specially Organized Sessions and PanelsIndividuals who wish to organize a special panel or technical paper session should submit a short proposal describingthe nature o the session as it relates to the topics o interest specifed in this call or papers. Importantly, the proposalshould also include the names o organizers and participants. Tose interested in submitting proposals may contactJoaquim Martins at [email protected], or Raymond Kolonay at [email protected]. Please notethat any paper proposed as part o a special session must have an abstract submitted by the abstract deadline.

Student Paper Competition on Design OptimizationUndergraduate and graduate students who are working in felds listed in the call or papers (multidisciplinary orotherwise) are encouraged to submit papers on design optimization. Co-authored papers are welcome. However, thefrst author must be a student, and the conerence presentation should be made by a student author. It is assumedthat the student has played a key role in the research and writing o the paper, and that he or she is a registeredstudent at the time the fnal paper is submitted. Student authors o the top papers will be presented an award romthe AIAA Multidisciplinary Design Optimization echnical Committee at the conerence. Papers and accompanyingposter presentations are judged on the originality o the work, the papers potential importance to the feld, andits clarity. Student paper competition abstracts may be submitted via the conerence Web site and are due by theabstract deadline. For more inormation, contact Christopher Mattson at [email protected].

Young Professional PresentationProgramYoung proessionals are sought to participate inthe Young Proessional Presentation Program thatprovides young proessionals under the age o 35 withthe opportunity to present their work at a nationalAIAA technical conerence. Tis program integratesyoung engineers into the regular sessions and allowsthem to give presentations covering continuing

and in-process design or research work, in additionto completed projects. Te Young ProessionalPresentation Program allows or oral presentationsonly; manuscripts are not required. Abstracts will needto be submitted as specifed in this call or papers. All submission deadlines and policies are the same asthose specifed in this call or papers.

Presentation topics or the Young ProessionalPresentation Program or the conerence should deriverom the topics listed in this call or papers and shouldbe work with which the presenting engineer is engagedor intimately amiliar. When submitting your abstract, ollow the abstract submittal guidelines listed, makingsure to click the Young Proessional Presentation box.

Department of Defense ApprovalTe Department o Deense fnds this event meets theminimum regulatory standards or attendance by DoDemployees. WARNINGTechnology TransferConsiderations

Prospective authors are reminded that technologytranser guidelines have considerably extended thetime required or review o abstracts and completedpapers by U.S. government agencies. Internal(company) plus external (government) reviews canconsume 16 weeks or more. Government review, irequired, is the responsibility o the author. Authorsshould determine the extent o approval necessaryearly in the paper preparation process to precludepaper withdrawals and late submissions. Teconerence technical committee will assume that allabstracts, papers, and presentations are appropriatelycleared.
