Camp Meeting Information

Dear Church Family,

Recently I was looking through an old box in my garage and I found a letter that my grand-mother, Jewell Albert, wrote me back in 1999. When I opened the letter up a small paper fell out that she had included. That small paper has a poem on it that I want to share with you. The poem is entitled “God Has No Hands.”

God has no hands, but our hands, to do His work today.

He has no feet, but our feet, to lead men in His way.

He has no tongue, but our tongue, to tell men how He died.

He has no help, but our help, to lead them to His side.

We are the only Bible this careless world will read.

We are the sinners’ gospel, we are the scoffers’ creed.

We are the Lord’s last message, given in deed and word.

What if your life is crooked, what if your life is blurred?

There is a powerful message in this poem that I think we all need to consider. Are we

leading people to the kingdom or are we following our own lust into sin and compromise?

Now is the time to stand up and take your place in Christ’s army. He has a place just for

you if you are willing.

A Fellow Disciple,

Pastor Mike

FEED YOUR SOUL A HEARTY FEAST! Plan now to be at worship on Sabbath, June 27. Yes, it’s

Potluck Sabbath. But if you’re with us on this particular Sabbath, you may find your soul being fed an even more delec-table meal than your stomach enjoys. On that day, we will have the special treat of hearing from Jack Bowers, his wife, and their 4 children. Jack and his family have been serving since December 2006 as missionaries for AFM (Adventist Frontier Missions). They work in a large country that is closed to evangelism, so everything they do must be done se-cretly. (Check later on in June to find out which country they’re in.) Things are so dangerous that, as protection, they even use a pseudonym in the articles they write for the monthly AFM magazine, Frontiers. On June 27, Jack will bring us the morning message during Worship Hour. Then after Potluck, the Bowers family will share with us a brief presenta-tion, after which they will give us a chance to ask any questions we have. They have some wonderful stories of God’s great work to add people to his “homecoming roll.” You won’t want to miss this one! Come, and eat hearty!

“The chips are all gone!” I guess that’s what we can say now that the first North Valley CHIP Program

has ended. The final session was Tuesday, May 19. We handed out evaluation forms, and judging from the responses, I’d say that the program was a true success. Participants not only saw improvement in their lab results and their weight and blood pressure; they also feel better and have a very positive attitude toward their new CHIP lifestyle. The North Valley Chip Team was able to make a really beneficial impact on the lives of about 25 people who were part of the program. Best of all, we were able to form some new friendships and create a positive image of our church and the Seventh-day Adventist faith to folks who, in many cases, knew almost

nothing about us. A couple of people actually asked some in-depth questions about our faith and were interested in Bi-ble Studies. (Praise God!)

Thanks to everyone who supported CHIP by your prayers, your giving, your invitations to family and friends, and your work. All of you who helped with planning, heart screen, table hosting, child care, room set-up, and everything else – THANK YOU! This was a huge undertaking, but very rewarding. And it wouldn’t have happened without all of you faith-ful helpers at North Valley. It’s an honor to be in church fellowship with you, and I love every one of you. Thank you again.

Oh, yes-and start praying now about what God’s leading is for another CHIP program. The chips may all be gone, but we can always open another bag to feed other folks who are hungry for a better life.

Our First CHIP Graduation Banquet is History! On Tuesday, May 26, North Valley hosted its first CHIP Graduation Banquet, complete with food (of course), awards, and lots of smiles and applause. Twenty-two of the twenty-three graduates were present, along with some of their family and friends and the CHIP Team members. Following a wel-come by CHIP Directors Dr. John Kelly and Janis Goad, everyone enjoyed a delicious meal of Haystacks and Carob/Applesauce Brownies. Then, the fun really began in earnest! Dr. Kelly showed a slide presentation that highlighted the accomplishments of this group of “Chippers.” After that, certificates, CHIP lapel pins, and CHIP knives were presented to each graduate, followed by the presentation of special awards to individuals who scored highest in certain accomplish-ments. (Our own Kenny Elkins won the award for greatest drop in cholesterol. Congratulations, Kenny!)

CHIP Directors John and Sally Kelly and Janis Goad recognized all of those CHIP Team Members who worked so dili-gently to make this first North Valley CHIP a success and presented each one of them with a small gift. The highlight of

the evening was the sharing by individual CHIP participants of what this program had meant to them. We heard some great testimonies of big changes in people’s lives! After a farewell word of encouragement from Dr. Kelly, everyone said their good-byes and went out into the rainy night-until June 9, when we’ll all meet again for our first CHIP Alumni Meeting. Let’s hope that North Valley will see many more alumni coming out of one of our future CHIP pro-grams. Maybe next time, YOU can be a part of this life-changing ministry.

Janis Goad CHIP Co-Director

We have a professionally designed site that includes church news, Bible study helps, our events calendar, and

pages for the ministries and departments in our church. www.northvalleysdachurch.com. I just checked out

the website and Justin Shelor has done an awesome job. I encourage you to check it out also.

Did you know that North Valley has new visitors every week and we have decided to give each visitor a

bag with a book, literature, a letter from the pastor and small loaf of bread. Would you like to use your

talents and help make some small loafs of bread or some type of yummy good, you can even make a craft

to help the visitor remember North Valley. You can do this for a short while or a long time it is up to you.

If you see someone with one of these bags, it is a great time to welcome them and make them feel at

home. If you are interested please give Melissa Elkins a call at 540-345-6005 for more information.
