Asyouprobablyguessed,the12barbluesismadeupoftwelvebarsormeasures.Eachmeasuregetsfourbeats.Onceyoucompletethesetwelvebars,yourepeattheentireform.

Therearethreechordscommonlyusedinthispattern:I7,IV7,V7.

Thechordsaboveareexpressedinromannumerals.The7nexttotheromannumeralsrepresentthatthechordisadominant7thchord.Thefirstfourmeasuresofthe12barbluesareplayedoverthetonicchordI7.Thismeans,ifwewereplayinginthekeyofA,ourI7chordwouldbeA7,ifwewereplayinginkeyofD,ourI7chordwouldbeD7,andsoon.
