PPG Fluoropolymer Coatings —for the Toughest

Architectural Applicationsin Coil and

Extrusion Coating

DURANAR high-performance coil and extrusion coatings have beenprotecting buildings around the world and making them beautifulfor more than 40 years. They combine proprietary resin and pigmenttechnologies, and have been proven in applications under thetoughest environmental conditions. 70% of the resin system consistsof fluoropolymer resins. DURANAR coil and extrusion coatings meetthe industry’s toughest performance specifications, including AAMA2605. The coatings are chemically inert and provide resistanceagainst color and gloss fade as well as environmental stress suchas acid rain and UV exposure.

Liquid CoatingsDURANAR Coil and Extrusion Coatings

DURANAR fluoropolymer coatings consist of a patented primer anda durable color coat. DURANAR coil coatings are used on aluminumand coated steel substrates such as G-90 galvanized, Galfan®,Galvalume®, and Zincalume®, while DURANAR extrusion coatingsare formulated for use on aluminum surfaces when ultimate per-formance against weathering is required. DURANAR LG, a low luster,matte clear coat finish is also available for use on DURANAR coiland extrusion coatings where non-glare is required or desired.

The basic DURANAR 2-coat system is recommended for use in normalenvironments when added protection against industrial or seacoastenvironments (corrosive chemical, salt spray, etc.) is not required.This 2-coat system is very resistant to fading, chipping and peelingwhen properly applied by an approved applicator. DURANAR coiland extrusion coatings resist dirt collection and chemical staining,and can significantly reduce maintenance costs over time.

DURANAR Sunstorm Coil and Extrusion CoatingsDURANAR Sunstorm coatings are a 2-coat system consisting of aprimer and a durable color coat containing mica pearlescent flakes.DURANAR Sunstorm coatings provide a metalescent look withoutthe use of aluminum flakes, which require a clear topcoat. This2-coat system combines value, durability and brilliant appearance.PPG currently offers a variety of colors ranging from whitepearlescent to copper, silver and gold.

DURANAR XL Coil and Extrusion CoatingsDURANAR XL coil and extrusion coatings are 3- or 4-coat systemsthat not only offer excellent abrasion resistance, flexibility, chemicalresistance and barrier corrosion resistance, but provide reliablearchitectural finishes in bright, exotic accent colors and true metallics.The clear topcoat protects the color coat from atmospheric pollutantsand enhances its durability. The XL clear topcoat is required oversome brightly pigmented DURANAR coatings and all colors containingmetal flakes in order to protect against UV, humidity and chemicalattack. For added protection, the XL clear topcoat may be specifiedover any DURANAR coating to improve the overall performance andease of maintenance of the finish system. CORAFLON second-generation fluoropolymer coatings from PPG meetthe weatherability and chemical resistance standards establishedby PVDF (polyvinylidene fluoride) finishes more than 25 yearsago. They deliver design and performance advantages including arich palette of vibrant colors, a full gloss range from 20% to 80%,excellent adhesion and excellent field recoatability with the ambientcure characteristics of acrylics.

Unlike older-technology fluoropolymers, CORAFLON coatings arethermosetting and cure chemically into a clear, 100% inert fluo-ropolymer compound. DURACRON coil coatings are acrylic-based 1-coat systems. Theirtechnology, proven over the past 30 years, provides long-termdurability plus exceptional smoothness, depth of image and asurface that can be easily cleaned. DURACRON coatings combinegood hardness with excellent resistance to chemical attack, dirtand staining, and can be used on aluminum and steel substrates.Typical applications include truck trailer sheet, mobile home andRV stock, awnings, canopies and metal building products.

ENVIRON Waterborne Coil Coatings

ENVIRON coatings are waterborne coil coating systems designed fora wide range of building component applications. They are 2-coat,1 mil total thickness coatings composed of a low bake waterborneprimer and waterborne topcoats. ENVIRON coatings are designedfor use on aluminum substrates. They offer significant advantagesto end users and coil coaters due to their excellent adhesion andresistance to water staining and softening. Additionally, the propri-etary chemistry used in ENVIRON coatings offer an environmentallyfriendly combination of highly durable resin and pigment technol-ogy in a waterborne coating.

ENVIRON ST Waterborne Coil Coatings

DURASTAR polyester coil coatings have been developed to meet theexcellent exterior durability requirements of agricultural, industrialand pre-engineered buildings. They are designed for 1- or 2-coatapplication on aluminum substrates and 2-coat application onsteel substrates. With improved flexibility over siliconized poly-ester, these coatings are perfect for roll-forming multiple buildingpanel profiles. TRUFORM HP Coil Coatings

TRUFORM HP high performance polyester coil coatings have beendeveloped to meet the durability requirements of the garage door,entry door and truck trailer markets. They are designed for 1- or2-coat application on aluminum substrates and 2-coat applicationon steel substrates. TRUFORM HP coatings have the added advantageof better recoatability compared to siliconized polyesters and canbe applied at high line speeds for maximum production efficiency.Uses include garage doors, entry doors, truck trailers and otheroutdoor applications where durability is important, such asagricultural, light commercial and pre-engineered buildings.

TRUFORM LF Coil Coatings

TRUFORM LF Coatings — specifically formulated for use in appli-cations that require ultra high reflectance properties. They areexceptionally clean, sharp white, cost effective products that offerexcellent formability and stamping characteristics. These coatingscan be run at high line speeds and achieve 87+ reflectance at1 mil coverage making them an ideal choice for interior lightingfixture applications and ceiling grid systems.

TRUFORM 580, 3100 & 3200 Coil Coatings

TRUFORM 580 is a polyester coating with good stain and marresistance for trim coil, siding and accessories. TRUFORM 3100and TRUFORM 3200 are good polyester options for the buildingproducts market. TRUFORM 3200 uses durable pigments, whileTRUFORM 3100 has a wider color range.

This 2-coat systemhas proven, painter-friendly application properties, and their proprietaryresin technology and formulation produce hard, smooth finishes.ACRYNAR coatings’ combination of long term durability, exceptionalmar resistance and excellent weatherability make them an idealchoice in high traffic areas such as store fronts, schools, hospitalsand high-rise condominiums. (ACRYNAR coatings meet AAMA2604 and are not a replacement for DURANAR fluoropolymer coatings,which meet the requirements of AAMA 2605 specifications.)

DURACRON Extrusion CoatingsDURACRON coatings are acrylic-based 1-coat systems. DURACRONextrusion coatings were the first aluminum extrusion coatingsoffered by PPG and have more than 35 years of field-provenperformance. They meet AAMA 2603 specifications and offergood film integrity, color control and mar resistance. They are rec-ommended for residential or interior applications such as windowand door frames, railings and trim. DURACRON extrusion coatingscan be custom formulated to match most DURANAR and ACRYNARFX colors. DURACRON coatings are not recommended for use onmonumental buildings or high-rise curtainwalls.

POLYCRON Extrusion CoatingsPOLYCRON polyester-based coatings are 1-coat systems which arerecommended for residential or interior architectural applicationssuch as window and door frames, railings and trim. Their high-solidspolyester resin technology helps them meet increasingly restrictiveenvironmental regulations, and they also meet AAMA 2603 per-formance specifications, offering good film integrity, color control andmar resistance. POLYCRON coatings can be applied over inhibitiveprimers to enhance corrosion resistance. They can also be formulatedto match and complement most DURANAR and ACRYNAR coatingscolors. POLYCRON coatings are not recommended for exterior useon monumental buildings or high-rise curtainwalls.

MACROFLEX Extrusion CoatingsMACROFLEX coatings are flexible polyester extrusion coatings formulatedspecially for the recreational vehicle market. They exhibit good marand burnish resistance, and provide excellent flexibility.

Powder CoatingsENVIROCRON Extrusion Powder Coatings

ENVIROCRON extrusion powder coatings are engineered to provideexcellent exterior color and gloss retention for architectural compo-nents, window & door frames, fencing, electrical transformers, andcontrol cabinets. With essentially no VOC’s, these coatings providean environmentally friendly approach and provide excellent chemical,corrosion, and humidity resistance. ENVIROCRON Ultra Durablepowder coatings meet AAMA 2604 specifications and are used incommercial applications.
