Open letter to the Honorable Governor Hickenlooper; To the Honorable Governor John Hickenlooper, I am writing this with a heavy heart as the eight-year "Angel"versary of the brutal murder of my niece, Jessica Rose Hamilton Bejarano fast approaches. We chose to refer to that date not as the date a monster ripped her from our lives, but as a reminder of the wonderful angel that was take from this earth. The tragedy of having the life of a young, beautiful, kind, and giving soul taken from us eight years ago does not end with only that loss. We faced the loss of a caring young mother of two precious young children, the loss of a loving daughter to a mother who grieves every day, the loss of the only sibling a little sister would ever have, the loss of a life so full of joy and compassion and with so much potential, which will never be experienced. On Friday, April 6, 2007, a beautiful, vibrant woman was viciously stabbed to death by a cold-blooded murderer in the presence of her two young children. Jessica was unconscionably left to die in her home. Her two-year-old son and four-year-old daughter were alone with her body for several hours before she was discovered. Those children witnessed this horrific event and I am certain no one can begin to comprehend the lifelong affect it will have on her innocent children. Jessica's murder occurred in the city of Frederick, in Weld County, Colorado. As much as we would like to believe otherwise, it seems as though the investigation by the Frederick Police Department was disorganized, and evidence, witnesses and/or others who may have been involved were not investigated as expeditiously, adequately, and thoroughly as possible immediately following her murder. When the Colorado Bureau of Investigations was brought in on the case we hoped it would bring about a more experienced, efficient, and resourceful investigation with very swift results. Much to our dismay, it did not resolve or solve anything. Now, as we approach the eighth year of our tragic loss, there are still so many unanswered questions and so many loose ends. The biggest mystery that remains is why, with all the evidence, has this case never been presented to a Grand Jury? What is the District Attorney's office waiting for? Why will they not pursue this? The evidence is there, the connections and coincidences are ominous. There are many strong opinions as well as compelling and formidable evidence as to who murdered Jessica, all of which indicate domestic violence as a very significant factor. Her conscienceless murderer is still out there, living free and walking the streets, perhaps with the potential to kill again. For over six years we have fought for Jessica’s rights to be represented by the authorities who were voted into office. Ken Buck, Weld County District Attorney at the time of Jessica’s murder, refused many times to speak with our family. He refused, more than once, to take the evidence presented to him before a Grand Jury. Mr. Buck has not been cooperative nor has he shown any compassion for the case surrounding Jessica’s murder. It would appear he was more concerned with his political career. He has now moved on to become the Representative of Colorado for the 4th Congressional District. I hope he will represent the great state of Colorado more professionally and more attentively than he represented the population of Weld County. It is now March 2015 and we are still waiting. As if the lack of cooperation from the District Attorney’s office weren’t enough, to exacerbate our hope three individuals, who were extremely close to this case and we felt knew more than had been disclosed during the initial investigation, met with violent deaths in February of last year.   • Open letter to the Honorable Governor Hickenlooper;

To the Honorable Governor John Hickenlooper,

I am writing this with a heavy heart as the eight-year "Angel"versary of the brutal murder of my

niece, Jessica Rose Hamilton Bejarano fast approaches. We chose to refer to that date not as the

date a monster ripped her from our lives, but as a reminder of the wonderful angel that was take

from this earth. The tragedy of having the life of a young, beautiful, kind, and giving soul taken

from us eight years ago does not end with only that loss. We faced the loss of a caring young

mother of two precious young children, the loss of a loving daughter to a mother who grieves

every day, the loss of the only sibling a little sister would ever have, the loss of a life so full of joy

and compassion and with so much potential, which will never be experienced. On Friday, April 6,

2007, a beautiful, vibrant woman was viciously stabbed to death by a cold-blooded murderer in

the presence of her two young children. Jessica was unconscionably left to die in her home. Her

two-year-old son and four-year-old daughter were alone with her body for several hours before

she was discovered. Those children witnessed this horrific event and I am certain no one can

begin to comprehend the lifelong affect it will have on her innocent children.

Jessica's murder occurred in the city of Frederick, in Weld County, Colorado. As much as we

would like to believe otherwise, it seems as though the investigation by the Frederick Police

Department was disorganized, and evidence, witnesses and/or others who may have been

involved were not investigated as expeditiously, adequately, and thoroughly as possible

immediately following her murder. When the Colorado Bureau of Investigations was brought in on

the case we hoped it would bring about a more experienced, efficient, and resourceful

investigation with very swift results. Much to our dismay, it did not resolve or solve anything. Now,

as we approach the eighth year of our tragic loss, there are still so many unanswered questions

and so many loose ends. The biggest mystery that remains is why, with all the evidence, has this

case never been presented to a Grand Jury? What is the District Attorney's office waiting for?

Why will they not pursue this? The evidence is there, the connections and coincidences are

ominous. There are many strong opinions as well as compelling and formidable evidence as to

who murdered Jessica, all of which indicate domestic violence as a very significant factor. Her

conscienceless murderer is still out there, living free and walking the streets, perhaps with the

    potential to kill again.

For over six years we have fought for Jessicas rights to be represented by the authorities who

were voted into office. Ken Buck, Weld County District Attorney at the time of Jessicas murder,

refused many times to speak with our family. He refused, more than once, to take the evidence

presented to him before a Grand Jury. Mr. Buck has not been cooperative nor has he shown any

compassion for the case surrounding Jessicas murder. It would appear he was more concerned

with his political career. He has now moved on to become the Representative of Colorado for the

4th Congressional District. I hope he will represent the great state of Colorado more

professionally and more attentively than he represented the population of Weld County.

It is now March 2015 and we are still waiting. As if the lack of cooperation from the District

Attorneys office werent enough, to exacerbate our hope three individuals, who were extremely

close to this case and we felt knew more than had been disclosed during the initial investigation,

met with violent deaths in February of last year. Jessica's brother-in-law, Cimmeron Johns,

abducted his estranged wife, Alicia Johns, and his mother-in-law, Sherri Pachello, shot and killed

  • both of them. In the days following, Cimmeron was on the run and after a long standoff with

SWAT officers, he was killed by one of those officer's bullets or committed suicide. The horrific

and untimely deaths of three of Jessica's close relatives has undoubtedly eradicated the hope of

ever obtaining crucial and critical evidence relating to Jessica's murder case from Alicia Johns,

Sherri Pachello and Cimmeron Johns. Potential evidence has now gone with them to their

graves. Cimmeron Johns was, in fact, the individual who discovered Jessica's body after being

called to check on her by his brother-in-law, Jessica's then husband, Daniel Bejarano. This, in

and of itself, was determined to be highly suspicious from the very onset of the investigation.

Daniel Bejarano and his father, Gerry Bejarano, are now the ONLY known surviving links to

Jessica's murder. What might happen if these individuals vanish or meet unexpected deaths? We

cannot wait for another disaster to occur that could significantly obstruct what remains of this

case. How many more tragedies with ties to Jessicas murder might transpire before her killer

pays for the heinous crime he committed? There is now a new District Attorney, Mr. Michael

Rourke. Mr. Rourke is familiar with Jessicas case. He was the Assistant District Attorney under

Ken Buck. We can only hope, and pray he has the wherewithal to do what needs to be done and

    solve her

Jessica was a mother of two children, she was a daughter, she was a sister, she was a niece,

she was a granddaughter. We demand justice and it needs to happen NOW! We need people to

care about the life of this beautiful young woman. We need the authorities to do their jobs by

finding and arresting her murderer. This case may not be on the top of the priority list for those

who say they are still investigating, but it is the ONLY priority for us, her family. For us the pain

and loss grows deeper with every passing hour, day, month, and year, while those who have

taken an oath to serve and protect do little or nothing in pursuing this horrendous crime.

Someone somewhere must care enough to do all that is necessary to solve her case. We firmly

believe Jessicas killer will be brought to justice. He will pay for his cowardly, reprehensible acts.

We are praying for action to from the District Attorneys office to come swiftly so Jessicas sweet

    soul may rest in peace.

With sincere gratitude for your time and attention respectfully,

Toni Carpenter, Aunt of murder victim Jessica Rose Bejarano
