1.1 MASTER PLAN
THE ST JOHN’S SPIRIT
St John’s Grammar was founded in 1958 by a group of risk-taking, forward thinking parents who aspired to create a school that provided the very best learning experience, nurturing a student’s free spirit and promoting tolerance and collaboration. Their bold new approach to education, inspired by the Hills environment, created the foundation for the St John’s Spirit. The St John’s Spirit lives on today.St John’s Grammar seeks to be a community where our students, parents and staff learn to soar, at school and in life.Their community is imbued by the St John’s Spirit.St John’s Grammar is an inclusive community of creative, innovative and passionate learners with the courage and confidence to soar. They strive to empower and connect young people to a thriving and purposeful future, positively impacting on their local Hills community and beyond.
MASTER PLAN 2021 - 2026
The St. John’s Grammar School Master Plan 2021 is a unique approach for the school, the master plan is for the whole school which comprises the three campuses, the ELC, The Junior School and Senior School campuses. While each campus has its own identity and educational priorities, they are each part of the St John’s journey ‘one school three campuses’.
A school’s physical environment communicates that institution’s identity to an extended community of students, staff, families and the general public, and can be a powerful tangible expression of its vision and mission. Each new building development exists not in isolation but as a part of the complex holistic experience of the school and its educational philosophy. Spaces for learning give a clear insight into the unique culture, values, attitudes, and educational choices espoused by the school. Whether through conscious or sub-conscious means, the environment that surrounds students on a daily basis has a significant impact on their emotional state and willingness to learn and has the ability to effectively strengthen and support the formal learning curriculum. The master plan and proposed new and refurbished buildings create an exciting opportunity to reinforce St John’s unique values and enhance the school's educational brand and identity. This proposed Master Plan is a 5 year master plan for the school including the Junior Campus, Senior Campus and ELC. The purpose of this Master Plan is to create a guide for building development over the next 5 years. It should articulate a long term plan for the school and provide a vision with key principles that can be implemented for the stages that are to follow. It should be a robust approach, but an agile document, that is updated over the years. This master plan now addresses previous recommendations from early 2000.

The Strategic Plan sets out the St John’s Grammar Advantage
The St John’s Advantage forges unique and exciting pathways for students, and inspires a quest to live a life that shapes a world that is better for all. We are a globally focussed school, immersed in our local community. We value collaboration and cross-cultural engagement. We leverage technology and value real-world application. We advance personalised and inclusive learning and connect our graduates to a life of meaning and purpose.
We educate the whole person - academically, emotionally, creatively, physically and spiritually. We equip our students with future-focussed skills that will transcend technology and will remain with them for life, including entrepreneurship, critical, creative and divergent thinking, emotional intelligence and interpersonal capacity
Learning happens in and beyond the classroom, with a rich arts offering, diverse sporting activities, rigorous academic pursuits and opportunities for adventure that extend beyond the school gates. St John’s Grammar graduates are creators, collaborators, constructors, carers and change makers.
Life at St John’s is rich in engaging experiences and inspiring people. We learn today so we can create our tomorrow.
