It was narrated from Abu Moosa (RA) that the Prophet (SAW) said:Allah holds out His hand at night to accept the repentance of those who havesinned during the day, and He holds out his hand by day to accept the repentanceof those who have sinned at night until the sun rises from its place of setting.[ Muslim].

I do not care even if your sins should pile up to the skyand should you beg pardon of Me, I would forgive you.O son of Adam! Allah, I seek the forgiveness of

Allah and I turn to Him in

    repentance more than 70 times

    each day. (Bukhaari, no. 6307)

    Thauban (RA) reported: Whenever the

Messenger of Allah (SAW) finished his

Salat (prayer), he would beg forgiveness

3 times [by saying, Astaghfirullah'] and

    then he would say:

Arafat is a day of Forgiveness from sins, freedom from the Hell-Fire for the people who arepresent in the plain of Arafat.A'ishah (RA) narrated the Messenger of Allh (SAW) saying:There is no day on which Allh frees more people from the Fire than the day of Arafat. Hecomes close and expresses His pride to the angels saying, 'What do these people (the Hajis)want?'[Sahh Muslim]This Hdth mentions forgiveness for the pilgrims. In addition to this, fasting on the day ofArafat is a Sunnah and an expiation of sins for the residents. The Messenger of Allh (SAW) used to fast on the ninth of Dhul-Hijjah, on the day ofAshrah, on three days of each month, and on the first two Mondays and Thursdays of eachmonth.[(Sahh) by Shaikh al-Alban in Sahh Abi Dawd vol: 2, no: 462]It is reported in Sahh Muslim that when the Messenger of Allh (SAW) was asked about thefasting on the day of Arafat, he said:It expiates the sins of the previous year and that of the following year. [ Sahh Muslim]This fasting is Mustahabb only for the non-pilgrims and not for the Hajis (the pilgrims)
