Definitely, such additions and changes have further strengthened the church. By the grace of God, we have also grown in numbers and it’s not merely at GI but also at GII. It has been a broad based growth across the different congregations. Praise to the Lord! Therefore, we would like to celebrate the goodness and faithfulness of the Lord upon Grace Assembly on this 1st Anniversary. Moving forward, we want to continue to focus on the strengthening of our missional journey. In this journey, it is our prayer that Grace Assembly will be a strong Missional Family Church (MFC). By now, many of our Gracians would have an idea of our emphasis as an MFC with its following four key thrusts: - Equipping the Gracians - Empowering the Families - Engaging the Community - Expanding into the World So please be in much prayer with us. I want to thank God for every Gracian and also welcome all the new Gracians who have joined us in the past one year. Let us move forward together with the love of God binding our hearts and in the power of the Holy Spirit. Ps Calvin Lee Senior Pastor

IT HAS BEEN 1 YEAR!We had our 1st Service at the newly built building on the 1st weekend of October 2015. As the saying goes, time flies!

Looking back, I’m indeed thankful for the hand of God upon us.

For the physical building, there were continuous improvement and rectification works done to the building in the past one year. On the whole, am grateful that there were no major breakdowns except there was one incident when a few of our members were trapped inside the lift. They have had a very close fellowship for about 20 minutes.

For the spiritual building, we have grown in strength in many ways. We added a new Hokkien Service, started Emerge for the pre-teens, launched Grace Missional College, and moved the Youth Service to Saturdays.

By now, many of our Gracians would have an idea of our emphasis as an MFC with its following four key thrusts:- Equipping the Gracians- Empowering the Families- Engaging the Community- Expanding into the World

So please be in much prayer with us.

I want to thank God for every Gracian and also welcome all the new Gracians who have joined us in the past one year.

Let us move forward together with the love of God binding our hearts and in the power of the Holy Spirit.

More than 140 students have registered and attended the various modules since Grace Missional College was inaugurated and launched in January 2016.

Here are reflections from the students: When I signed up for the GMC modules, I was not sure of what to expect. However, from my first module on Christology, I knew I made the right decision. I have been immensely blessed and equipped through the GMC modules I have taken so far. I realized how much of the Old Testament I am ignorant of. Often, we focus our attention on the New Testament, perhaps because we are more familiar with the stories and want to focus on Jesus’ ministry. I realized most of the key facts in the New Testament relating to incarnation and Jesus’ ministry is in general well established and referenced in the Old Testament. My understanding and interpretation of the Bible has been significantly enhanced through the practical teachings I have received from the GMC modules. ~ Adeyeye Adekunle

For many years, I have been wondering what actually the Kingdom of God is, and the best place to find out was in GMC! When I heard that Peter Tsukahira would be teaching it, I immediately signed up for the course and was so happy that I learnt so much. More importantly, the small group learning stirred my heart on what it means to establish God’s Kingdom on earth. Knowledge must be translated into action and GMC does a great job in doing so.~ Kenneth Kwan

I have always wanted to pursue some fundamental theological training/study program so I can be more grounded and better equipped for ministry. I am truly thankful to

have this opportunity to pursue this interest through GMC Diploma in Theological Studies. The 5 modules I have gone through thus far, have certainly been very enriching and beneficial, and has helped me gain an in-depth understanding of God’s Word, as well as deepened my faith and walk in the Lord. I am excited, and look forward very much to the subsequent modules in the coming terms. ~ David Yeoh

UPCOMING MODULES:BIBT502: The Biblical Basis & Strategy of MissionsDr Khoo Hin Hiong / 27-29 October 2016

This course is designed to clarify what the Bible teaches on missionary objectives and explains the relationship of the Trinity to missionary endeavors. It aims to familiarize students with the missionary activities of a New Testament Church and through the use of case studies to be stimulated and engaged with more vigorous mission work.

BIBT235: Conflict Management & ResolutionDr Joseph Umidi / 17-19 November 2016

This course provides perspectives on the rudiment of leading people through understanding of conflicts. It also focuses on the principles and praxis of the management from theory to practice, developing and formulating resolution methods and managing communications.

OCTOBER PRAYER POINTERS Pray for our church:

1. Pray for our church to become a House of Prayer ( Matt. 21:13 ), that prayer will be at the heart of all our meetings and activities.

2. Pray that together as a church, we will go deeper into the river of God where we allow the Holy Spirit to fill us and control us more and more (Ps. 46:4).

3. Pray that we will totally yield and depend on God and that His agenda will prevail over all meetings in our church (Ps. 62:5).

4. Pray that we will make the building of God’s house and not our own houses our priority (Hag.1:8).

5. Pray for an increased Presence of God and manifestations of the Holy Spirit in all our church meetings and gatherings ( Exo. 33:14 ).

Grace Communities provides an environment through Grace Groups for Gracians to live in community with each other in a way that impact themselves and the world around them. It is a place where worship, discipleship, fellowship and evangelism are both experienced and expressed in and through a small but closely knitted group of believers.

Our journey of faith was never meant to be alone. We all need help and encouragement from fellow brothers and sisters in Christ to keep in step with the Spirit and walk faithfully in the Lord. Through caring leaders and loving members in the Grace Group, Gracians can grow spiritually.

You have already stepped into Grace and are worshipping God with us. Why not take the next step to join a Grace Group and to grow together in Christ.

Staying in a landed property, chauffeur-driven, running her own business, going on luxurious holidays….all these came to an end when she decided to leave an abusive relationship. Left to bring up two children single-handledly, wrongly detained in a foreign land… where is God when it hurts most? Angela Lim from GII opens up to Family Life@Grace.

FLG: Family Life@GraceAL: Angela Lim

FLG: Please introduce yourself to our readers.AL: My name is Angela, I am 52, currently working as an Operation Manager for a company that provides elderly caregivers, baby sitters and domestic helpers for families. I love my job as most of my staff (80%) , are either single mums or single dads. I am very happy to be able to help them get a job so that they can support their families.

FLG: Tell us something about your family AL: There are 3 members in my family. My daughter, my son and myself. FLG: My home is…. AL: I live in 4 room flat in Bukit Batok. FLG: How long have you been in Grace Assembly and how did you get to know about Grace?AL: When I bought my resale flat in Bukit Batok last year, I was so glad that Grace is just a 10 minutes walk from my place.

“He found him in a desert land, And in the howling waste of a wilderness; He encircled him, He cared for him, He guarded him as the pupil of His eye. ~ Deuteronomy 32:10

I went to Grace by myself. That was in Oct 2015. I believed God led me to this church. FLG: Many have come to know you through the Mothers’ Day video clip. You mentioned that you are single mum. Could you share more?

AL: My ex-husband and I used to run our own business. However, he was a womanizer and was abusive. Whenever I asked him if he was coming to work or coming home, he would become very violent. In spite of having married to him and staying faithful to him for 20 years, I was often beaten by him. Whether at home or in the office, in the wee hours of the morning or when I was sleeping, he often turned abusive.

I had been to countless police stations to make reports and hospitals to have my injuries checked and recorded. I was afraid of him that he would hurt me more. Once my son has finished with his PSLE, I decided to leave him. I left everything behind after my divorce. My landed house, my car, my career and even our company. It was an immediate departure and I left everything behind with no maintenance from him but I brought with me, my two lovely kids.

FLG: It must have been a very painful time for you. How did you cope?AL: The first few months were tough. It was a stressful period for us as we had to find our own shelter. I had to look for a job so that I could have food for the family and make sure my children were able to go to school. My daughter was studying in the polytechnic and my son was in secondary one. Both of my kids were very understanding and matured. They both went to look for a suitable resale flat that matched my budget and was near to their schools while I was busy looking for a job. As I was no longer young, it took a much longer time for me to find a suitable job. However, that period of time strengthened the mother and children bond and had made us even closer than before.

My kids went through a huge transition. Before, they were staying in a landed property in Holland and were driven by their chauffeur all

the time. They had two live in maids. We were seasoned travellers. Whenever there was pockets of time, we would go travelling, did overseas shopping, swimming or diving in different resorts, ski or skate boarding in different countries. Those were bonding time for the family. They had private tutors coming to our home to teach them. All these had to go when I made the decision to leave my ex-husband. We had to take public transport and sometimes, we had to walk to places. My two lovely kids did not mind at all even staying in a resale HDB flat.I could no longer afford to send them for tuition. They had to be independent and do self-studying. I thank God for giving us the strength to ride through those tough times. My daughter is in NTU first year and my son is in secondary 4 now.

FLG: What would you consider your greatest setback through it all?AL: I was a Christian but became a Buddhist for 20 years after I got married. FLG: Although you went through some challenging moments in your life, were there moments of victory?AL: I would say it has to be coming back to church, going back to God once again. My second child is dyslexic. But praise God, he managed to finish his PSLE and will be doing his ‘O’ levels end of the year.

Although I left God after I got married, I realised that He has never once left me. The church has been very supportive and the church pastors have been keeping in touch with us. Our God is a faithful God; He will never leave us nor forsake us.

FLG: Thank you Angela for opening up to share with us so much about your life. What would you want to tell Grace members?

AL: Seek God, pursue Him, never let Him go. God remains faithful to the end.

Isa 43 : 18, 19“Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?” I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.

The flaming arrows mentioned in the above verse are like fiery darts that the enemy uses to attack us. Have you ever felt some inexplicable pain in your body, or maybe a recurring mishap in your life? Fiery darts could be at work in our lives - a weapon that the enemy uses effectively against us to keep us from fulfilling our destiny and calling in Christ.

Often when the devil strikes, his attack can sometimes seem inconsequential with little damage done. But often a minor issue could develop into a fierce, flaming situation with sometimes dire consequences! As followers of Jesus, there is no doubt that the devil will try to shoot his arrows in our direction. Having a shield of faith soaked in the living waters of God’s inner healing through Christ gives us protection against these attacks. We learn to deal with the enemy’s fiery darts and render them useless based on the finished work of Christ on the cross!

Come and experience God’s healing waters that will drown every fiery dart that comes our way … Sign up today for this seminar.

A total of 25 couples had a getaway and a time of learning and sharing together in Johor Bahru. Many of them made arrangements to have their children being cared of. What is more admirable was couples from the Grace Community volunteered to take care of the children so that the couples can spend the time enriching their marriage. A true experience of a missional family church! We are proud of you for such a spirit of koinonia.

Our resident retreat speakers, Brother Steven and Sister Michelle Chan, shared their personal experiences and gave time for each couple to rediscover, reflect and discuss various crucial relationship issues. Several experiential games highlighted common misaligned practices in a couple’s daily life. There was also a men-only and women-only forums that saw some deep interactions within the groups. The retreat revealed blind spots, provided practical thoughts and practices, which help to improve marriages.

Every couple ranging from nine months to 34 years of marriage exploited the opportunity at the retreat to draw close with each other and spent quality time to refuel their marriage. They were committed to live the vow and with that live a legacy for many who come after.

“Cheering one another, encouraging the weary and leaving trails for younger couples to follow. We did what the song wrote in “Find us faithful” sang by Steve Green. More couple more like Jesus? Indeed!

Kudos to a highly efficient young couple who attended the Lovers’ Retreat 2015, Brother Nan and Sister Jillian, for their excellent coordination and administration in the retreat. Their belief in a strong marriage propelled them to pour their lives back to the ministry.

Missional Marriage? On the way. Perhaps, more intentional in loving one another. May our marriages and lives lit like the fire that bring warmth and light to those who needed hope and companion.

“Give Honour to God!”

“The minister here is not me, the real minister is seated right there,” Minister Chan Chun Sing, Guest-of-Honour for the night, pointed at Reverend Calvin Lee. The 500 guests laughed.

‘And honestly, I’m not the Guest-of-Honour, I’m the Guest-to-honour.” Mr Chan quipped. He went on to honour everyone who was present, volunteers, donors and staff. Most importantly, Mr Chan gave honour to his Lord Jesus for His faithfulness to Grace Assembly of God and REACH Community Services Society.

The night showcased a song performance by beneficiaries of REACH Senior, a beatbox experience by artist Charles ‘Stitch’ Wong and finally, a classical music experience by More Than Music duo, Abigail Sin and Loh Jun Hong.

At the end of the night, Dr Patrick Liew, who led a team of volunteers to organise this year’s charity dinner, announced that $300,170 was raised from the auction of 2 paintings of the late Mr Lee Kuan Yew and donations from table sales and donation pledge cards collected.

These generous donations will go to serve the Least, the Lost and the Lonely indeed. God is good!

AN UPDATE FROM GRACE MISSIONS BY PS MATTHEW TAN

We are now at the last quarter of 2016. This is generally considered the peak period for Grace Missions. There will be many trip out to the countries as the holidays are coming, and it is getting cooler in the bulk of the countries we have missions work in. Here are some things we would like to update you over at Grace Missions.

Churches PlantingThis year, in 2016, we are supporting the planting of 83 new churches, and there are 163 more new churches that are currently still under our monetary support. This is where S$ 738,330 of our missions budget for this year is going.

Our Country Directors have been busy going to-and-fro their respective countries, supervising the on-going church planting works and ministering to the pastors there. This is on top of leading teams and, for most of them, still pastoring and managing their GI and GII communities here in Singapore. Please continue to pray for our missions pastors for strength and protection as they plough on for the Kingdom.

Missions CornerDid you see our missions corner at GI, Level 2 Koinonia? This would be our dedicated platform for missions awareness. There, we would be praying for the nations. Missions trip meetings could be held there. There is even a library where you can borrow missions related books. Basically it would be a one-stop ‘shop’ for anything missions related. Do you want to know more about what we do on a missions trip? Want to know what are missions trips you can join? Go there. There would be people who would assist in by responding in your enquiries.

People over at GII, you are not left out! Early next year, we would also be launching our missions corner at GII, Level 1, Fellowship Area. Many of us can be involved in missions by praying, giving and going; and we will be doing all these much more through our dedicated missions corner, coming up at GII.

Gap4GodOn 03 September, the guys over at NEXUS ran an event called ‘Gap4God’ — a Global Awareness initiative to encourage more young people to be global Christians. It was the second run of the event, and 56 young people turned up! We had a great time encountering God and hearing stories from the missions field. We pray that the Holy Spirit will mould our young people to be missions-minded as we serve a God who rules all over the globe.

Closing ThoughtsAs you can read, there is so much more work to be done! I do not know about you, but over here at Grace Missions, we want many people to be saved and many more people to know Jesus as the King who is coming back for us soon. See you in the missions field!

UPCOMING MISSIONS TRIPS

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Please pray with the missions trippers for God’s protection to rest on them, and that they would be sensitive to the Holy Spirit’s leading.

LESSONS FROM TANJUNG PINANG BY JASON CHIN

The team from Christ Ambassadors Fellowship (CAF) went for a missions trip to Tanjung Pinang from 20 - 21 August doing home visitations, woman, youth and Sunday School ministry.

Ps Janu, the pastor of the church we ministered in, came to Tanjung Pinang about 11 years back and started by going around the town sharing the gospel. Through many years of hard work, his ministry has grown into a church of 150 people.

We have the privilege to pray for Ps Janu’s new house as one church member sponsored a down-payment and on top of that, he was given a special discount to buy that new house. This would free up some space in the church premises as Ps Janu and his family were staying at one corner of the church which was covered by planks of woods to demarcate the space for beds.

My most enriching encounter was the home visitation which we ministered to a lady. When we asked her for prayer requests, she broke down upon relating her difficulty of meeting her family day-to-day needs. Some of the sisters in our team embraced her and prayed for her, and I shared the story of Five Loaves and Two Fishes — the Lord will provide.

Just as Jesus was moved with compassion (in the Bible story), the Lord also move us with compassion for her. We gave her a basket of food comprising of basic items like sugar, cooking oil and salt. To see her smile was more than what I can ask for. I was reminded that I have been blessed by the Lord and I should not take the Lord’s blessing for granted. We are called to be a good stewards of the good gifts that God has blessed us with.

Praise the Lord for a good time spent in the missions field.

BLESSED IN RETURN: GFM’S BATAM RIAU ISLAND MISSION BY JEREMY RETUTA

On the 26th August when 10 GFM members assisted with a Grace Mission coordinator first soared onto the mission field at Batam Riau Island, the members were caught in a minefield of mixed emotions; excitement, joy and the feeling of wonder. “What would it be like?” was one of the questions that was hovering on our thoughts. The answer to this question was unveiled beautifully as how the team experienced the presence of the Lord on the whole journey.

It was a challenging entry for some of the members as they passed through immigration but by God’s grace went through it peacefully and the team was warmly welcomed by IBC (Injil Bhakti Caraka Theology School) members led by Ps Sara.

The outreach began with the English language lessons at the IBC’s two class groups composed of about 19 & 17 respectively. The sharing themed “Love” partnered with simple grammar lessons and games were enjoyed by everyone despite the limited time. After the IBC, we were treated to a delectable Nasi Padang lunch where we first got to taste and enjoy Indonesian food. As the team was waiting for the next event; Ps Sara shared with the team the current situation of the Bible school and

we were so blessed with the IBC’s perseverance to keep going and serving despite the persecution faced around the so called “darkest” part of Batam.

The second phase of the outreach was the feeding program at the slum area of about 50 children ages ranging from less than a year to ten years old. The love for God and the eagerness on the fellowship manifested in the glow in the children’s eyes. Invitation was not necessary; children streamed into the room freely and they were so disciplined to reach out hand to the team asking for blessings; a cultural Malay custom of asking for an adult’s hand and putting them on the younger person’s forehead or cheeks (which is similar to Filipino’s custom called “mano”) and finding an available seat as they arrived.

The children’s worship was amazing and could was the tip of the iceberg of the mission trip. The team was in unison of awe as we witnessed the sincerity of every child’s worship; care free singing, screaming at the top of their voices, jumping and dancing. Worship leader seemed to be negligible as the worship was spontaneous. This dawned onto us that they found freedom in the Lord despite being surrounded by people of different faith. The staff’s dedication on their service was equally sincere. Their love to the kids was visible.

The simple re-enactment of David and Jonathan’s friendship caught laughter to the kids and every child went home as happy as a lark with their art & craft friendship band and goodie bags. The kids left asking another round of “mano” and never stopped waving good bye as we left.

GFM’s mission was to bless, to reach out; but instead, we came back being more blessed. It was a fruitful first journey and we’ll bring what we have learnt to our ministry whereby is not just for everyone to remember but to inspire and encourage that we are indeed blessed from where we are today and that this mission journey will not be the first and the last; there will be many more to come. To God be the glory!

It is not a push. It’s not between two men, noIt’s not between you and me, And how we struggle, no

Nor is it a pull like in a tug of war. It’s not about your way or my way and about who wins.It is not to separate, it is not to divideWhat good are we, each, as a single thread?

It is not even a push between God and me, noIt’s not a push away,Don’t push the father away,No don’t push His love away.

It is not push, but a pull.Yes, it is a pull, it’s a pull!

Let’s Pull Ourselves Together

It is a pull towards God, a pull towards Jesus,It’s a pull from Him. It is a pull to follow Him, to be with Him.It’s a pull to be closer to Him.

People – God has intended for us to be woven as a cord,A cord of three strands,That is bound together, tightened together, made strong together. A cord created when we respond as oneto the pull of God.

With Christ holding us together, we will not be brittle, we will not be fragile,we will not be loose,we will not be weak.We will withstand the stretch, we will overcome.

He will use us to pull the lost towards Him,To pull nations towards him,To fulfill His mission.

So Church, remember, it is a PULL, not a push,Let’s pull ourselves closer together,Let’s tighten the knot of Christ,And secure ourselves to Christ – our anchor.

Never forget, that a threefold cord is not easily broken.
