PLOTTINGA RETURN:Dan Boyle.
FORMER Cork TD and Senator DanBoyle is considering a return to politicsand may run for a seat on Cork CityCouncil.
Boyle, who is a former chairman of the GreenParty, said they will be running candidates in allsix city wards in next year’s local elections and saidhe is considering running in the South East ward
in the Cork South Central constituency and was theparty’s spokesperson on Finance, Social and FamilyAffairs and Community, Rural Development andthe Islands.
He lost his seat in the 2007 election but was ap-pointed a Senator by Taoiseach Bertie Ahern, whoformed a Government with the Green Party.
An influential figure on social media, his com-ment on Twitter in 2010 that he had no confidencein the Minister of Defence Willie O’Dea led toO’Dea’s resignation. He failed to get elected toeither the Dáil or the Seanad in the 2011 elections.
Later that year he recorded an album of musiccalled Third Adolescence and last year he released abook, Without Power or Glory, an insider’s accountof events from before the 2007 General Electionthrough to the bailout and defeat in the 2011 elec-tion.
If he decides to run he will join an increasinglycrowded field in the seven-seat South East ward.

THE remains of a man found in a rubbish chute atan apartment complex in the city centre on Mondayevening may have been there for up to two days.The man’s identity has not been established but apost-mortem examination by Dr Margaret Bolsterrevealed he died as a result of an assault, andgardaí have now upgraded their investigation toone of unlawful killing.The man’s body was found face down in rubbish atthe City Garden and Northgate House apartmentblocks on Monday evening by a maintenanceworker.Superintendent Barry McPolin said the man wasapproximately 60 years of age, of slight build andwas 5ft 6in tall.He had grey hair and moustache, and was wearinga beige fleece top, beige trousers and a darkt-shirt.● Continued on page two.
