L.N.Sahu Mahavidyalaya,Cuttack is in existence for last 29 years with single faculty only.

Present student strength is less than intake sanctioned.

Majority of the students are from weaker sections of the society.

The courses are designed and approved by Utkal University.

No teaching staff is member of BOS of the affiliated University

Teaching staff is not involved in curriculum development and design directly.

2.1.2 Academic flexibility: Institution is single faculty college and offers BA (pass) and BA (Hons) under Faculty of Arts.

The College does not provide any course in Science, commerce or any professional subjects.

2.2 Teaching- Learning & Evaluation:

2.2.1 Admission Process and Student Profile:

Ensures wide publicity to the courses through prospectus, website and advertisements in local News Papers

Transparent admission process. 39%women students and 45%SC/ST. Prescribed rules of reservation of state Govt.

are strictly adhered to.

2.2.2 Catering to the diverse needs: Communication skills of students need to be improved

Remedial courses need to be regularised

2.2.3 Teaching-Learning Process: Academic Calendar is prepared in advance. Lecture method is followed extensively. Students are exposed to use of computer.

2.2.4 Teacher Quality: Teachers possess eligible qualifications and recruited following Govt. rules.

More encouragement to the teachers to attend conferences, seminars etc, is required.

One faculty member is Ph.D qualified and 4 are M.Phils.

2.2.5 Evaluation Process and Reforms: The performance of students is monitored through half yearly examination by college and year end examination by Utkal University.

2.3 Research, Consultancy & Extension:

2.3.1 Promotion of Research: Reduction in the work load and leave Facility for staff involved in research.

Research activity needs to be promoted by allocating funds.

2.3.2 Research and Publications Output: Three ongoing minor research projects

2.3.3 Consultancy: Institution should explore opportunities to promote consultancy

2.3.4 Extension Activities: NSS unit has taken up some programmes There is one Rover Rangers unit in the

college. Blood donation camp, AIDS Awareness,

Sanitation Programmes in adopted villages.

2.4 Infrastructure and Learning Resources:

2.4.1 Physical Facilities for Learning: The college has campus of 4.17 acres with adequate teaching and learning facility.

Optimum use of physical facilities. Class room furniture and lighting need

improvement on priority basis.

2.4.2 Maintenance of Infrastructure: College management looks after the overall maintenance of Infrastructure.

Infrastructure needs proper Maintenance

2.4.3 Library as a Learning Resources: There are 6416 books and subscribed 5 journals and magazines in the library.

Book Bank, Xerox and Internet facility in library.

Library staff is insufficient. Computerization of the library needs to be

initiated.2.4.4 ICT as Learning Resources: The college possesses 11 computers out of

which three are connected with Internet. Access to Internet is very limited. Use of ICT in teaching-learning needs to be

promoted.2.4.5 Other Facilities: Girls Hostel with intake of 60 under

construction. Facilities such as drinking water, vehicle

parking, small canteen etc. are present.

2.4.6 Best Practices in the developmentof Infrastructure and LearningResources (If any)

Nil.

2.5 Student Support and Progression:

2.5.1 Student Progression: Socio-economic profile is maintained Drop out rate is 20% Exam results of the college are satisfactory.

2.5.2 Student Support: College publishes updated prospectus. Govt. scholarships are available for the socio

economically weaker section students. The college provides various types of prizes

and concessions to the needy and meritorious students.

2.5.3 Student Activities: Cultural activities need to be strengthened. A few students participated in national and

ASIAD games in Rowing. One student awarded Ekalavya award by

Govt. of Orissa. A few sports persons excelled at University

and National level in kabaddi and Cricket

2.5.4 Best Practices in Student Supportand Progression (If any):

College magazine is published regularly

2.6 Governance and Leadership:

2.6.1 Institutional Vision and Leadership: Well stated vision and mission. The management may play proactive role to

meet the challenges of higher education. Better inter-personal relationships are needed.

2.6.2 Organizational Arrangements: Committee form of management. Governing Body accommodates

representatives of stake holders.

2.6.3 Strategy development and deployment:

Well defined development plan is required. The institution objectives are displayed in

college website.

2.6.4 Human Resource Management: Teachers are recruited as per UGC guide lines.

Faculty development programme is not in place.

Feed back on teachers performance needs to be initiated.

Accounts of the college are audited periodically.

The college utilized funds provided by state Govt. and UGC as per norms.

College has to introduce self finance courses to augment funds.

Decentralisation of power is present. .

2.7 Innovative Practices:

2.7.1 Internal Quality Assurance System: Quality management system needs to be designed and executed.

Regular feed back from stake holders is needed .

2.1.2 Inclusive practices: Encouragement for women is impressive. SC/ST and OBC students are given financial

support.

2.1.3 Stakeholder Relationships: Alumni Association needs to be strengthened. Inter personal relations with all stack holders

need to be improved

3.1 Institutional Strengths: Institution is covered under grants in aid and 2f -12(B) of UGC Act. w..e.f. 27.05.2006

3.2 Institutional Weaknesses: College took 26 years to get covered under 2(f) & 12(B)

writer on faculty. Institution could not exploit UGC funds for

3.4 Institutional Challenges: To start commerce and Science faculty and job oriented professional courses like BBA, BCA, BSW.

Augmentation in library resource and sports fields.

Avail maximum UGC grants for infrastructure and research activity.

More participation in seminar, workshops etc and more research publications are required.

To start NCC unit.

3.3 Institutional Opportunities: Exploit network with stakeholders for institutional development.

Start job oriented self financing courses. Employ earn and learn scheme for poor

students. Soft skills development among students. Regular counseling in career opportunities.

Section IV: Recommendations for Quality Enhancement of the Institution

(please limit to ten major ones and use telegraphic language)(it is not necessary to indicate all the ten bullets)

College should make efforts to fill in all vacant posts in UGC scale. Attract students through quality education efforts to fill in sanctioned intake. To start commerce, science and job oriented self- financing courses like

BBA,BCA & BSW. More and more encouragement be given to teachers to participate in seminars,

workshops etc. and publishing text books and research papers in reputed journals. Teachers of the college be motivated to acquire M.Phil and Ph.D. qualifications. ICT needs to be made accessible to teaching, administration and library. Efforts to start NCC unit be made and extension activities be enhanced with

meaningful themes and programmes keeping welfare of the region in mind. A team of resourceful teachers be constituted to avail grants from UGC, ICSSR

and other funding agencies for development and academic programmes. A gymnasium facility for boys and girls be made available on campus.
