INTRODUCTION

Sometime during the early 70s, while I was working on the Species and subspecies of the birdsof Peru I became aware that I needed for my personal use a system to list bibliographic references byspecies and their subspecies. At the time I was already familiar with the Catalogue of birds of theAmericas which listed references by subspecies. However, as following this system would have been toocumbersome I decided to typewrite the then recent references by species in loose leaf pages. This I didfor years until the advent of computers, when I created files for the then recent literature. It must havebeen between the early years of 2000, that I decided to retype the references in the loose leaf pages intothe computer. By then old publications started to become available in Portable Document Format (PDF)which facilitated filling the gaps of the publications I did not have. I finally accomplished the transfer ofdata and incorporating the old publications at the end of 2013, except for the Family Tyrannidae which isbeing worked on. Due to lack of time I have not included references published in the 20th centuryonwards that mentions species of birds in lists, tabular form, etc. The result is this work.

Below the scientific names I list those references that contain descriptions of species andsubspecies with their type localities. Included are the references of descriptions of birds from Peru whoseproposed names have been synonymized. Separated by a line, all known references related to thespecies are mentioned. Those references marked with an x before the authors name, mean that I haveread either the hardcopy, reprints, xerox copies, PDFs, etc., of same.

The reader should be aware that some species have text right below the scientific names. Thesetexts are sometimes without brackets and sometimes they are within different types of brackets. Herewiththeir meaning:Species reported as occurring in Peru based on published documented sight records are withoutbrackets.Unpublished specimens records, undocumented sight records, photographs, videos, or audio-recordingsare within brackets (1). [].Species that occur in countries adjacent to Peru are within brackets (3). [[[]]].Species reported as occurring in Peru but are considered as hypothetical are within brackets (3). [[[]]].Species not included in the List of the birds of Peru for lack of adecuate documentation are withinbrackets (5). [[[[[]]]]]. These are included here for information purposes only.

All this was done in my spare time as my normal work was far removed from ornithology until2008.

For this work, under each species I have removed all e-mails which I saved. These e-mails weresent by ornithologists, students, birdwatchers, etc., either directly to me or to a forum (NEOORN,Birdingperu, Incaspiza, etc.). The contents varied from taxonomy, distributions, new records to sightings,etc., and when necessary confirming or refuting some information or comments.

INTRODUCCION

En algn momento a principios de los aos 70, mientras trabajaba en Especies y subespecies delas aves del Per me d cuenta que necesitaba para mi uso personal un sistema para registrar lasreferencias bibliogrficas por especies y sus subespecies. En ese entonces ya me era familiar elCatalogue of birds of the Americas que enumera las referencias por subespecies. Sin embargo comoeste sistema hubiera sido muy complicado decid escribr a mquina las entonces referencias recientesen hojas sueltas. Esto lo hice por aos hasta la aparicin de las computadoras, cuando cre archivospara la reciente literatura de entonces. Debe haber sido a principio de aos 2000, que decid volver atipear las referencias en las hojas sueltas a la computadora. Por entonces las publicaciones antiguascomenzaron a estar disponibles en Portable Document Format (PDF) lo que facilit llenar el vaco delas publicaciones que yo no tena. Finalmente logr transferr la informacin y completar la incorporacinde las publicaciones antiguas a finales del 2013, excepto por la Familia Tyrannidae que se encuentra enelaboracin. Por falta de tiempo no he includo las referencias publicadas desde el siglo 20 en adelanteque mencionan especies de aves en listas, cuadros, etc. El resultado es ste trabajo.

Debajo de los nombres cientficos he enumerado las referencias que contienen descripciones deespecies y subespecies con sus localidades tipo. Includas se encuentran referencias de descripcionesde aves de Per cuyos nombres propuestos han sido sinonimisados. Separados por una lnea, toda las

referencias conocidas relacionadas a la especie son mencionadas. Las referencias marcadas con unax delante de los nombres de los autores, significa que he ledo ya sea la publicacin impresa,separatas, copias xerox, PDFs, etc., de los mismos.

El lector debe saber que algunas especies tienen texto debajo del nombre cientfico. Estostextos a veces estn sin corchetes y otras veces estn entre diferentes tipos de corchetes. Acontinuacin su significado:Especies reportadas en Per basado en observaciones documentadas y publicadas estn sin corchetes.Registros de especmenes sin publicar, registros de observaciones sin documentar, fotografas, videos, ograbaciones sonoras estn dentro de corchetes (1). [].Especies registradas en pases fronterizos con Per estn dentro de corchetes (3). [[[ ]]].Especies reportadas para Per que se consideran como hipotticas estn dentro de corchetes (3).[[[]]].

Especies no includas en la Lista de las aves del Per por falta de documentacin adecuada estndentro de corchetes (5). [[[[[]]]]]. Estas han sido includas ac solamente con propsitos informativos.

Todo esto se realiz en mi tiempo libre debido a que mi trabajo normal no estaba relacionadocon la ornitologa hasta el 2008.

Para ste trabajo he retirado todos los e-mails que haba archivado bajo cada especie. Estos e-mails fueron enviados por ornitlogos, estudiantes, observadores de aves, etc., ya sea directamente a mo a un foro (NEOORN, Birdingperu, Incaspiza, etc.). Los contenidos varan desde taxonoma,distribucin, nuevos registros a observaciones, etc., y cuando era necesario confirmando o refutandoalguna informacin o comentarios.
