“No prophet is accepted in the prophet’s hometown.” Thus, did Jeremiah and Jesus encounter opposition and lack of faith; thus did both place their hope in the Lord.

REDISCOVER THE LOVE IN YOUR MARRIAGE!

Do you feel lost, alone or bored in your marriage? Are you frustrated, hurt or angry with your spouse? Are you constantly fighting or do you simply shut down? Have you thought about separation or divorce?

Does talking only make it worse? Retrouvaille may be the LIFELINE that you need!

It is not just a social gathering or series of seminars, but rather a way to rediscover and rekindle the loving relationship in your marriage. Tens of thousands of couples have successfully saved their marriages by

attending a Retrouvaille weekend and the six post sessions that follow it. The next program begins on the weekend of February 12 at the Family Life Center in Malvern, Pa.

Additional weekends will be held in April and August. For more information, or to register for one of our weekends, visit our web site at www.HelpOurMarriage.com

or call 1-800-470-2239. All inquiries are kept strictly confidential.

TODAY THERE WILL BE A

SPECIAL SECOND COLLECTION.

(There are no envelopes for this collection)

All Churches in the Archdiocese received a special memo from the Archdiocesan office of the Clergy which stated (in part), the following:

“In response to the major storms and severe flooding that have hit the South and Midwest regions of our country, and hearing that similar storm patterns might well continue in these and other parts of the country, the USCCB (United States Conference of Catholic Bishops) has asked that we take up a collec-tion to help address humanitarian and Church needs caused by the severe weather.

It is suggested that this Storm Relief Collection be taken up the weekend of January 30/31. Donations will be for-warded to Catholic Charities USA.”

The memo further noted this special collection is not to be confused with the collection taken last weekend for Catholic Relief Services. These two col-lections are for two different organizations which ad-dress different groups. Catholic Relief Services focuses on foreign needs; Catholic Charities USA addresses needs in this country.

Thank you for responding to this need.

Domingo Escritura Reflexions

Sunday Scripture Reflections

Reading 1 Jeremiah 1:4-5,17-19 Jeremiah was an insecure young man when the Lord appointed him as a prophet to Israel. In this read-ing, the Lord assures Jeremiah that he has always known him and loved him, even before he was born. In effect, the Lord says to Jeremiah, "You can do this. I will be with you all the way. I will make you strong.”

It is a wonderful thing to be a follower of Jesus, to be a member of a community of faith. We have rela-tives and friends to support us. That does not mean that everything in our lives is easy. We often have hard choices to make.

At times of hard choices, think of the prophet Jeremiah and the Lord's words to him, "I am with you to deliver you." Reading 2 1 Corinthians 12:31--13:13 or 13:4-13

This is one of the most famous passages from the New Testament. It is a passage of love. It is read at wed-dings and also at funerals. It is written on plaques and wall hangings. It is even embroidered on pillows!

There is no doubt that Paul speaks of Love as the greatest gift you can possess. Without it there is nothing of value. As the Apostle John states “God is Love” and if we love we are in God and God in us. Gospel Luke 4:21-30 In the first reading, we read that the Lord chose Jeremiah to be his prophet. The people did not listen to Jeremiah. However, Jeremiah never gave up, because he knew the Lord was with him. In this reading from the Gospel, the people do not listen to Jesus. They did not really believe he was the Messiah, because they had known him all their lives. To them, Jesus was "Joseph's son" and nothing more. But Jesus never gave up, either. Jesus knew that his Father was with him always.

Excerpts from Pope Francis’ Bull of Indiction of the

Jubilee of Mercy

A program for the Year of Mercy—continued

7. The season of Lent - The season of Lent during this Jubilee Year should also be lived more intensely as a privileged moment to cele-brate and experience God’s mercy. How many pages of Sa-cred Scripture are appropriate for meditation during the weeks of Lent to help us rediscover the merciful face of the Father! The pages of the prophet Isaiah can also be meditat-ed upon concretely during this season of prayer, fasting, and works of charity. 8. 24 Hours for the Lord - The initiative of “24 Hours for the Lord”, to be cele-brated on the Friday and Saturday preceding the Fourth Week of Lent, should be implemented in every diocese. So many people, including the youth, are returning to the Sacra-ment of Reconciliation; through this experience they are re-discovering a path back to the Lord, living a moment of in-tense prayer and finding meaning in their lives. Let us place the Sacrament of Reconciliation at the centre once more in such a way that it will enable people to touch the grandeur of God’s mercy with their own hands. For every penitent, it will be a source of true interior peace. 9. Confessors: authentic signs of the Father’s mercy - I will never tire of insisting that confessors be au-thentic signs of the Father’s mercy. We do not become good confessors automatically. We become good confessors when, above all, we allow ourselves to be penitents in search of his mercy. Let us never forget that to be confessors means to participate in the very mission of Jesus to be a concrete sign of the constancy of divine love that pardons and saves. In short, confessors are called to be a sign of the primacy of mercy always, everywhere, and in every situation, no matter what. (to be continued) =====================================

“We are all sinners, but God heals us with an abundance of grace, mercy and tenderness.”
