An Epistle from Paul: Never Underestimate the Power of Fellowship In 1971 an earthquake hit Southern California. It occurred at a time when most people were in bed asleep, and as a result proved to be quite upsetting. Most awoke in the midst of noise and shaking to find themselves separated from their parents and other members of their families. Hundreds of younger people and adults were so emotionally disturbed that they required psychiatric care. As researchers compared the results of California earthquake with one that had occurred in Alaska in 1964, they discovered some interesting differences. Though the Alaska quake was just as severe, very few people suffered from psychological trauma. Why do you suppose this was the case? Researchers concluded that the difference stemmed from the fact that in California the quake camme when members of the family were separated from one another. By contrast, the Alaskan quake came just as most families were sitting down together for the evening meal. Together, the families had the emotional strength to face the unknown terrors that the earthquake brought. Let me use the above to illustrate another imporant Biblical principle. Hebrews 10:24-25 says, “Let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more, as you see the day drawing near.” In other words, our Lord knew of our great need for fellowship to help encourage and sustain each other in worship and service to Him. The first church steadfastly continued in fellowship amongst three other vital areas… Throughout Scripture we are told of the great need for fellowship – with God and with each other. You Can Help With This!

Recently on the church’s web site we received a message from a Tricia Goodwin. She sent this reaching out to her former home

church. Many of you will remember Tricia coming with JoAnn and Ivan Wehrley. She presently lives in Indianapolis and is needing encouragement. The following is the e-mail address you can use to simply reach out and let her know she is remembered and loved by the brethren here. That e-mail address is as follows: [email protected]. Again, if you could simply write a note of encouragement to Tricia it will go a long way in encouraging her!!

Don’t Grow Weary! With Satan doing everything he can to divert and discourage us, we are reminded to run the race with endurance (Hebrews 12:1a). How we need to remind each other and to encourage each other to not grow weary in our worship and service to Christ. May we be encouragers to each other always!
