    4.1 Process of Troubleshooting

    While using BSC traffic statistics system, if there is any phenomenon or fault beyond yourknowledge and no related information can be found in this manual, please handle this problem

    following the steps below:

    4.1.1 Saving the Location Information in Time

    Data necessary for locating a problem

    Assume that OMC-BSC system is installed in the path of "c:\omc" in BAM, then all task files

    (including task information and data) and traffic statistics log files can be found in"c:\omc\bsc\bam\appsvr\stats" in BAM. There are three folders in this path: "data", "databak"

    "log" and Rereg.

    The following files and a task statistic result folder are in the data folder as Table 4-1.

    Table 4-1File typesFile name Description

    PubInfo.tsk For saving the public information of all tasks registered in

    this BAM;

    result.buf Buffer file, for saving the result frame sent to the server;

    stxxx.tsk For saving the private information of each task;

    stxxx. For saving the result of each task.

    stxxx.idx For saving the basic information of the task.

    YYMMDD The task statistic results folder of that day.

    YYMMDD The statistic result index file of that day, recording the

    statistic result file numbers and offsets.

    xxxx.res The task statistic result file, numbered from 0001 with eachnot exceeding 10M.

    "data" folder

    There are four types of files in "data" folder.

    PubInfo.tsk: for saving the public information of all tasks registered in this BAM;

    result.buf: buffer file, for saving the result frame sent to the server;

    stxxx.tsk: for saving the private information of each task;

    stxxx.res: for saving the result of each task.

    In the file names above, "xxx" stands for the task number. The BSC system allocates a task No. for each

    measurement task which has already been registered in BSC successfully. The task No. of one task canbe found in the interface of "Data Query" where there is a window of "SQL Condition Query Statement"

    display the task number as Task xxx. YYMMDD indicates year, month and day, each with two digits.

    "databak " folder

    "databak" is used to backup the task information and result file when modifying the task

    configuration.

    log folderThere are five files in log folder.

    stats.ver,for saving the information of the version modification made to the BAM;

    system.log,for recording system log;

    osystem.log:,system log before saving the file of system.log;

    error.log,for recording the log of errors;

    sysconv.log,operation log of traffic statistics result conversion program;

    The BAM log file related to traffic statistics console is in "c:\omc\bamlog\logdata". The file

    "htxxx.log" (xxx is the log file number) in directory [\opertations] records the operations

    performed on traffic statistics console and the frame information sent from the BAM to theBSC and WS. The file htxxx.log (xxx is the log file number) in directory [\system] recordsthe system related logs.

    log folder

    "Rereg" is used to save the task information for statistic task resetup function.

    Any of above files in the folder "data" will be recreated if it is damaged so that the system canwork normally. However, the original content of this file will be cleared and all information

    related to this file will be lost. "stats.ver" in the folder "log" will be recreated whenever BAMis restarted, and "system.log", "error.log" and "sysconv.log" will be recreated when they are

    damaged.

    The maximum number of sub-records of No.xxx task results saved in each "stxxx" file islimited. For permanent task, the number is 65535. For normal task, the number depends on

    the days specified. However, due to the space limit (max. 25 M each) for the result files. Thesize of "system.log" also has limit. The default limit is 5 M each, but this limit can be

    modified by modifying "bam.ini". When the size exceeds the limit, this file will be backed upto "osystem.log", and at the same time, the original information in "system.log" is cleared.

    The configurations related to traffic statistics in bam.ini is as follows:

    [STATISTICS]

    INSTALLED=1

    "1" stands for traffic statistics has been installed.

    "0" stands for traffic statistics has not been installed.

    SYSLOG=1

    "1" stands for system log will be saved.

    "0" stands for system log wont be saved.

    SYSLOGSIZE=5120

    Set the min hard disk space to avoid problems caused by insufficient disk space.

    Unit: M; Default: 512; Min: 256.

    When there is no sufficient disk space, delete the earliest task and the operating log.

    4.2 Fault in Starting Traffic Statistics Console

    Fault Description

    When you register a traffic statistics task, the system prompts The application will exit due

    to the error when opening project file. or The application version is incompatible withproject file version, the application will exit.

    Cause Item files of the current version which is in the folder of [AutoCfg/msmold/ current

    version] in OMC Server are damaged;

    The version of item file is not consistent with that of the Host selected when starting thetraffic statistics console, and as a result, the traffic statistics console cannot match thetwo.

    Measure

    Reinstall BSC operations and maintenance module of Huawei GSM-OMC system or copy the

    corresponding version of item files from the server to the version directory.

    Do not modify the item files manually.

    Do not copy item files from one version directory to a different version directory.

    4.3 Operations of Traffic Statistics Task Failed

    4.3.1 No Resources Available

    Fault Description

    When registering a traffic statistics task, if there are over 200 tasks (including permanent tasks,

    system will prompt Task num. is more than the front limits or Lack of resource in the

    front .

    Cause

    At most 200 tasks or 3000 subtasks can be created at each BM. Currently a BM supports at

    most 128 cells. Therefore, under the condition of full configuration, registering a task of "CellMeasurement Function" whose object is defined as All cells in the module will register 128subtasks. When the number of subtasks contained in the tasks registered in this BM exceeds

    3000 or the number of registered task exceeds 200, system will provide the corresponding

    prompt of error.

    Handling

    Register tasks according to the actual situation. Try to avoid registering tasks with the objectof All cells in the module or similar ones. And try not to register the same statistic items

    with the same objects in multiple tasks so as to avoid wasting available resources.

    4.3.2 Repeated Type of Statistic Function

    Fault Description

    When you register a traffic statistics task, the system prompt Failed: Task belongs to this

    statistic function type has existed. Can't repeatedly register.

    Cause

    In BSC, some statistic function type can be registered for only once. For example: CPU

    Measurement Function, Outgoing Inter Cell Handover Measurement Function, Incoming Inter

    Cell Handover Measurement Function, Defined Adjacent Cell Measurement Function,

    Undefined Adjacent Cell Measurement Function and Cell Frequency Scan. If these statisticfunction types are registered in more than one task, system will prompt this information.

    Handling

    Avoid registering these statistic types in more than one task.

    4.3.3 Other User is Registering Scan Freq. Task

    Fault Description

    When you register a measurement task, the system prompts Failed: Other user is registeringscan freq. task

    Cause

    The task of Cell Frequency Scan cannot be registered in multiple tasks. If tasks of this statisticfunction type are registered at multiple WSs, system will give this prompt.

    Handling

    Avoid registering tasks of Cell Frequency Scan at multiple WSs.

    4.3.4 Statistic Items cannot be Resolved

    Fault Description

    When you register a task, the system prompts Can't resolve computable statistic items.

    Maybe items are mistaken, or lack of memory.

    Cause

    The memory of WS is insufficient to resolve the items selected into original items, or the

    selected items include customized items, but the formula of the customized items is not in linewith system criterion.

    Handling

    Quit those programs temporary not needed and register the task again. If the registration fails

    again, check whether the formula of the customized item is in line with the criterion. If not,delete the customized item and create another customized item to register the task.

    4.3.5 Re-registration of Minimum or Maximum Value

    Fault Description

    When you register a task, the system prompts "Task registration failed: Re-registration ofminimum or maximum value."

    Cause

    The current registered task contains the minimum or maximum value item (such as the

    maximum TCH queue length) which has been registered in other task. Therefore, the previous

    prompt shows up.

    Handing

    Remove the re-registered minimum or maximum value item and register the task again.

    4.4 Querying Traffic Statistics Result Error

    4.4.1 Measurement Result Abnormal after Changing the Time ofBAM and Server

    Fault Description

    When the time of BAM and Server has been changed, user cannot query the results of some

    tasks, or the measurement results are obviously incorrect.

    Cause

    The management of traffic statistics depends greatly on time. A measurement result is

    allocated with an index No. according to its time of generation. Its offset in the buffer, whichis the basis for recording measurement result, is also calculated from its time of generation. If

    the actual time of outputting result is earlier than the time of the saved results in the file, thismeasurement result cannot be saved, and the task results during this period cannot be queried

    at the Client.

    For example, the measurement time of a task is 8:0010:00, and its period is 30 minutes.System has output the results twice at 8:30 and 9:00. While the time of Server is adjusted to

    8:00 at 9:00, as shown in Figure 4-1,at the last result queries, the results 8:30 and 9:00 are the

    ones before adjusting the time. After the time is adjusted, the results during 8:009:00 cannotbe outputted. The result outputted at 9:30 is actually the result the sums of three periodsduring 8:009:30. This result is not reliable, and can be ignored. The result at 10:00 will

    recover to normal.

    Handling

    Do not change the time of BAM or Server.

    If the time of BAM or Server has been changed, please discard the first outputted

    measurement result after adjusting the time.

    4.4.2 Task Results Incomplete due to Daylight Savings TimeSwitching

    Fault Description

    On the day of time system switching daylight savings time, there is a blank in themeasurement result covering a certain period of time.

    Cause

    On the day of switching time system, the time is switched back for one hour. The resultsgenerated during this period cannot be queried. When switching back to normal system, there

    will also be a period of time with no results save due to the one-hour-long time overlapping.

    Handling

    Configure the time zone in OMC Server and BAM according to actual situation so that this

    abnormality will not occur to the countries or areas where daylight savings time system is notpracticed.

    In the areas practicing daylight savings time system, do discard the first outputted

    measurement result after the time has been changed.Do not configure different time zones on the BAMs connected to the same OMC Server.

    4.4.3 Measurement Result of Percentage of CPU Occupation Being0

    Fault Description

    Measurement of Percentage of CPU occupation is 0.

    CauseIf the occupancy of cpu is 0, then the mpu may have been restarted or switched over during

    the measurement period, which results in results of this period lost or unavailable. in this case,the traffic statistics console will use "0" to indicate the measurement result. the trafficstatistics console will indicate the result availability of each object at detailed information.

    The available ones are marked with "", and the unavailable ones are marked with "x".

    Handling

    None.

    4.4.4 Times of Successful Being 0/ Success rate Being N/A

    Fault Description

    Times of successful is 0, or success rate of is N/A (counter statistics).

    Cause

    Normally only under the situation of task result lost/unavailable, will the successful times of

    be 0. In this case, Detailed Information is "".

    And normally only in the case of adopting pre-defined items or customized items, will the

    success rate of be N/A. The pre-defined items and customized items are calculatedfrom original items. If the measurement result corresponding to denominator part in the

    formula of a pre-defined item or customized item is 0, the measurement result will be " N/A ".

    Handling

    None.

    4.4.5 Task Result "N/A "

    Fault Description

    The result of a task is "N/A ".

    Cause

    Average inter arrival time in the BSC Measurement Function is obtained in BSC by

    dividing the number of channel requests whose cause value is "Call Initiating" ("emergencycall" not included) in a measurement period. If there is no channel request whose cause value

    is "Call initiating", the result of this measurement is " N/A ". This definition complies withGSM Rec. 12.04. When the number of decoding failures is 0, items maximum

    non-decodable signal strength and mean non-decodable signal strength in TCHF/HMeasurement Function (3) under Cell Measurement Function (2) do not exist and are

    output as N/A. When none of the signal strength can be decoded, the item lowestdecodable signal strength does not exist and is output as N/A.

    For the traffic statistic items Full Rate VQI, Half Rate VQI, Main Level, and SUB

    Level in the measurement type Monitor the Wireless Quality of the measurement object

    Receiving Quality Measurement, if the reported values are invalid, these items displayNA.

    Handling

    ResultFault Description

    The measurement result Unknown statistic items appears in the item value of the task result.

    Cause

    This item may have been deleted or cannot be found from the item file of the current version

    due to version mismatch.

    Handling If a customized item is deleted, select the other items for this task.
