    What Ed has to say:

Hello everyone, welcome to 008 ITK Magazine.

My, my, this year is getting on and once again we are in a new monthand also one third of the way into 2011.

Summer in Cape Town has been phenomenal and also slightly tiring atthe same time. I want cooler autumn weather (I like the sun, dont get mewrong), but much prefer cooler, or cold weather. Well enough ofweather talk.

Right, we have caught up The Parlotones, they are amazing lads, we hada bit of fun with them, nothing too serious.

Then, if you have not seen the movie Black Swan (ok, so you dont haveto be a ballet fan), maybe use it as a Natalie Portman excuse(This is ifyoure dead set on not watching the film). It is a brilliant movie. Natalie isan amazing actress and the roles she always lands are just spot on. Just alittle warning, it is an emotionally dark film and you do get caught ofguard by a few scenes(I had the odd OMG moment, with a shriek here

    and there).

Combining music and arts is fabulous, and talking about that, Poetry inMotion 2 will be on stage from March at the Artscape, so go and get yourtickets, go on then now.

I caught up with international designer Ryan Mc Elhinney who is afabulous creative individual, plus Zoe once again found a fantasticdesigner in South Africa, so have a read and see what they chattedabout.

There is always a lot of exciting things happening wit ITK the brand, youwill just have to keep up to date online and make sure you keep track.

Till then, have a great March, get the Easter bunny outfit ready, till then.

When we look at The Parlotones, one of

South Africas best local and internationalExports within the music industry, one cannot

Help but be in awe of their success and ImSure a lot of hard work that came with it all.

The one thing about The Parlotones, is that

They have an amazing sound, they are unique and as

A band, they are most definitely by far humbleDown to earth and in many ways real. Musician

In SA are extremely hard done by; withoutDedication, constant persistence in getting

Yourself out there, along with a good management

Team, there is certainly no reason why manyUp and coming, old talented or just talented

Individuals cannot make it in the industry.

Seriousness aside, ITK managed to ask the boysSome fun questions(why steer the typical interview

Route) I am sure there is only so much ofhow it all began questions.

ITK also recently worked with the lads, butMore so this is what some of the band members had to say.sadly

Khan and Neil went missing in action, we will publish their version toanswers online when we receive it. The Parlotones are currentlytravelling abroad

    THE NUMERICAL QUESTION

ITK MAG: If Neil had 2 drumsticks and gave away 1, how manydrumsticks will be left over?

Glen: Zero.Khan: Missing in Action!!!!!Neil: Missing in Action!!!!Paul: Are they KFC drumsticks? If they are, he is normally throwingthem at angry bloggers.

    WORD ASSOCIATION

    ITK MAG: Tart

    Glen: No thanks.Paul: Peppermint

ITK MAG: Recipe for a good night out?

Glen: Rum.Paul: I prefer to stay home, but if I'm dragged out I like some placewith cool music, but not too loud... like at home.

ITK MAG: How do you entertain your mates? Anything we shouldknow about, special party tricks?Glen: I generally get drunk and act really stupid, and then hearabout my shenanigans the next day, much to my despair.Paul: Jokes, stories about tour, talking about bands and music, theoccasional loud burp...

ITK MAG: Best or worst moment in life?

Glen: Deep. I dont think Ive experienced either yet.Paul: One of the worst was landing in a freezing cold Ireland, standing in a queue outside in the rain, waiting for a taxi for about40 minutes... one of the best was the hot shower and warm bed thatwas waiting at the hotel at the end of that taxi ride.

    ITK MAG: Your first kiss?

Glen: Theres this old photo of me and my best girl friend kissing on aswing when we were like 5 years old or so. I guess that was it.Paul: Clumsy, but that's the story of my life.

  • 8/7/2019 008 Itk Magazine

    13/104

ITK MAG: Funniest thing you did to another band member whilst on tour?

Paul: Made Kahn fly all the way back to South Africa to judge Idols while

we lounged around in London watching movies and going to the pub.

ITK MAG: What dont you travel without, excluding your gear of course?

Glen: PSP, wallet, phone, watch.Paul: A couple of good books (although it's now a Nook), blackberry andlip-ice.

ITK MAG: Do you have band rituals before going on stage? If yes explain,if no, but you could have one, what it would it entail.

Glen: Nah. I can never stick to anything.Paul: We kick everyone out of backstage half an hour before show time,to focus and clear our minds. A drink of some sort to settle the nerves. Some exercises, nothing too hectic though. If I had to have just one, itwould be a long head massage. About 2 hours or so should be fine.

ITK MAG: Has fans ever A flashed their bits to you and B have girls everchucked undergarments onto stage? Or are the girls just plain boring?

    Glen: Yes, yes, and yes.

Paul: Yes to both, quite often. Happened to me this afternoon actually, but it was my wife (so I dunno if that counts?)

ITK MAG: Would you braai Lady Gaga, if she rocked up at your house inher famous meat attire?

Glen: Im a vegetarian, so no, she can stand outside and get eaten bythe neighbourhood dogs instead.Paul: No, that's ridiculous! But if she showed up in that egg.... that's adifferent story.

ITK MAG: Who would make the ideal 5th band member of The Parlotones, why would you choose them?

    1 SYLVESTER STALLONE / 2 - PAMELA ANDERSON/ 3 -VANILLA ICE/ 4 -STINKY / 5 -JULIUS MALEMA

Glen: One thing weve learnt is that theres no such thing as an ideal 5 th

band member. I would pick Pamela though, and make sure we alwaysshare a room.Paul: Stinky is already in the band, his real name is Neil Pauw. But I would

have to go with option 6. Sandra Bullock, because she is awesome. Oroption 7. Robert Downey jnr, he would make things interesting I canimagine.

Joel Janse van Vuuren Perception of Beauty

[11:12:38 AM] ITK MAGAZINE: Hi Joel, how you doing? Thanks so much forjoining ITK for a chat![11:13:34 AM] Joel Janse van Vuuren: Hey, it's a pleasure, thanks so much for

this opportunity. Im doing well thanks, its a perfect day here inJohannesburg.[11:14:32 AM] ITK MAGAZINE: Can't say the same for Durbs - its all cloudyhere! Give us a little trip down memory lane, where did you grow up andwhat and where did you study?[11:18:06 AM] Joel Janse van Vuuren: Well up until December last year I wasbased in Durban, having grown up in the surrounding areas, it became theinevitable place to study fashion design. I began studying in 2005 at LineaAcademy but crossed over to the Durban University of Technology in 2007,where I received my Bachelor of Technology in Fashion and Textiles. I'm nowliving in Joburg, and am in the process of launching my brand.[11:19:40 AM] ITK MAGAZINE: Awesome - so what inspired the move toJoburg? Are you enjoying the bright lights of the big city?[11:22:45 AM] Joel Janse van Vuuren: Thats one of the reasons I moved up,for the bright lights :) well that and family, to me family is important and itsgreat to finally be around them again. In terms of work, I'd say there is a lotmore happening in the fashion industry in Joburg and Cape Town comparedto Durban, unfortunately because Durban has great weather, generally, andpeople, and yes I am enjoying Joburg.[11:25:43 AM] ITK MAGAZINE: Glad to hear you enjoying it! Sadly it does seemthat Durban loses a lot of very talented people to Joburg, us Durbanites need

to do something about that! So what is the Joel Janse Van Vuuren label allabout? Do you focus on certain pieces?[11:31:09 AM] Joel Janse van Vuuren: My brand at the moment focuses onwomens high fashion, one off pieces that toy with different silhouettes andstructures, these pieces also lead to a ready-to-wear range which is in thepipeline. I'm still in the process of developing my label so in my head I have a"under construction" sign but for now I really focus on developing my owncreativity and portraying my perception of beauty.

11:33:24 AM] ITK MAGAZINE: Well from what I have seen the world is going tolove your perception of beauty, and I can't wait to watch the label unfold! You create such beautiful and unique garments, I have to ask, what are you

wearing today?[11:36:06 AM] Joel Janse van Vuuren: Haha, well nothing out of the ordinary Isuppose, beige corduroy shorts, a grey printed wide neck t shirt and Adidastrainers. For my personal wardrobe its about comfort, colour and shape.

[11:37:46 AM] ITK MAGAZINE: Well you always look great, so thanks for sharing! Ihave to agree there is nothing better than being comfortable while lookinggood![11:38:33 AM] ITK MAGAZINE: Named as one of Cleo Magazine's up andcoming, hot, local talent to keep an eye on, how did you get your name outthere?[11:40:45 AM] Joel Janse van Vuuren: One of the best ways Ive heard of

getting your name out there is by entering competitions, it's the best way toget experience and get people to know your name. That, and also just puttingyourself out there meeting people, dressing people and sending your workthrough to different publications.[11:42:34 AM] ITK MAGAZINE: Having then started your own label from scratchand being on the process of establishing yourself, do you have any otherwords of wisdom for a young designer just starting out? Sounds like you knowwhat you speaking about ;)[11:45:45 AM] Joel Janse van Vuuren: Thanks, well I think as Ive said enteringcompetitions and putting yourself out there. Working with known designers

also is very beneficial and experience, its all about racking up those 10000hours, as Malcolm Gladwell says.[11:47:44 AM] ITK MAGAZINE: Wise words, it's all about putting in the hours! Howcan people get hold of you and get their fashionista paws on one of yourgorgeous garments?[11:50:32 AM] Joel Janse van Vuuren: At the moment I'm based out of myhouse with the aim to stock stores by midyear, but the best way to get hold ofme is through my website www.joeljansevanvuuren.com , where one cancontact me to get a garment made or purchase an already made garment.[11:53:29 AM] ITK MAGAZINE: Will definitely bookmark the site and keep an eyeon you! I am dying to get my fashionista paws on a piece of yours! Anyfavourite designer, someone you really admire?[11:56:27 AM] Joel Janse van Vuuren: After doing quite a bit of research lastyear into designers. I really admire the work of Rei Kawakubo who has the labelComme des Gracon, and Yohji Yamamoto, theyve both been doingrevolutionary things for fashion since the eighties. Locally my favouritedesigners are Marianne Fassler and Clive Rundle.

[12:24:55 PM] ITK MAGAZINE: Haaha! That is hysterical, I am sure you wereput off strawberries for some time after that! It's great to see people

doing their bit promoting clear messages on HIV/AIDS in South Africa! Now my favourite question, I just have to ask - do you have afunny/special quirk that you would bravely tell the ITK readers?[12:28:35 PM] Joel Janse van Vuuren: Umm haha, youve kind of caught

me out here. I cant think of any off hand - okay well a small thing but Ihave a bit of a OCD when it comes to watching series, I can literally sitdown and watch entire seasons and really forget about life!! Its a greatslightly unhealthy escape.[12:30:17 PM] ITK MAGAZINE: Sometimes I believe it is good for the soul toindulge in a bit of escapism! Any favourite series?[12:31:18 PM] Joel Janse van Vuuren: I agree completely, at the momentits Boardwalk Empire; last week it was The Walking Dead.[12:32:49 PM] ITK MAGAZINE: I have heard that Boardwalk Empire isamazing - haven't got around to watching it yet though! A fun fact - Iknow you have a really amazing tattoo - could you divulge the storybehind that?[12:34:52 PM] Joel Janse van Vuuren: Yes, its quite a big one, my dad isan artist and for my birthday in 2009 I asked him to draw me a tree, oneof our favourite things, and I then got the tree drawing tattooed acrossmy whole back and a little on the side, and man it hurt![12:37:08 PM] ITK MAGAZINE: What is the age old saying - beauty is pain! I

have to say it is one of the most original tattoo's Ive seen and it reallylooks like a piece of art! Before you go, do you have any hot fashion tipsfor the ITK readers?[12:39:22 PM] Joel Janse van Vuuren: I want to tell people to just be trueto themselves with what they wear and try not worry what people think, and avoid crocs, like the plague.[12:41:21 PM] ITK MAGAZINE: Hahaa - Amen! I think crocs are the ugliestthing ever invented!! Thanks so much for chatting to us today, it wasgreat to catch up and get the man behind the label! Keep well, keep intouch with ITK and we wish you the very best for the future - look forward

to watching you grow![12:42:58 PM] Joel Janse van Vuuren: Thanks Zoe, great chatting withyou! Ill keep in touch.[12:43:28 PM] ITK MAGAZINE: Have a great day! Chat soon :)

11:58:21 AM] ITK MAGAZINE: That brings me to my next question, you didsome work with Marianne Fassler, she is a really established and iconic SouthAfrican designer, that must have been amazing! Tell us a bit about that?[12:03:04 PM] Joel Janse van Vuuren: Yes it really is amazing, part of studyingfashion design is doing an internship in third year, which for mine I went towork under Marianne Fassler, which was an incredible experience and Ilearnt alot. You can have all the creativity in the world, but if you dont

have the business mind behind it, it wont work. Over the years we've keptin contact and I was given the opportunity last year to work with MarianneFassler and Albertus Swanepoel assisting Marianne Fassler in her collectionlate last year. It was awesome.[12:05:01 PM] ITK MAGAZINE: Wow that must have been an incredibleexperience! Well done to you! So what can we look forward to from JoelJanse van Vuuren himself? I heard a whisper about fashion week?![12:08:22 PM] Joel Janse van Vuuren: Yes thats my exciting news at the

moment. I have a slot in a fashion show at SA fashion week at the end ofMarch, the show is called Rising Stars and focuses on young designershelping them establish themselves and find out which direction within theindustry they'd like to take. I'd really recommend it to all aspiring designersto do. This is the project I'm busy working on at the moment, new silhouettes, new colour and fabric is always great to work with.[12:10:09 PM] ITK MAGAZINE: Ooh, that is so exciting! Can you let us into yourhead and give us some insight into your design process? Where does yourinspiration come from and how does the magic happen?[12:15:31 PM] Joel Janse van Vuuren: A lot of current fashion is based on

trends for a particular season, but thats not the way I really want to do it,although to some extent i think everyone does even on a subconsciouslevel. Last year, as part of my dissertation, I explored the idea of usingDerrida's theory of Deconstruction as a design tool to make creative uniquefashion designs, which I then translate into actual garments. I try getinspiration from everything in life, at the moment I am enjoying the work ofthe Pre-Raphaelites.[12:19:05 PM] ITK MAGAZINE: Fashion and art have always been idealbedfellows! I like your idea of translating theory into reality and obviously, this has had an amazing result for you! What is the most ridiculous thing youhave done fashion wise?[12:22:11 PM] Joel Janse van Vuuren: That would definitely be the dress Imade from condoms in late 2009! I entered a fashion competition whichpromoted the awareness of HIV and Aids, it was a lot of fun, and I made itwith strawberry scented condoms which unfortunately made my entire flatsmell like fake strawberries for a while. :)

This is only the second time that architects havereceived the award; last year Johannesburg architect Peter Rich was thewinner. The overall prize is a trip to Paris or London to attend a Paul Smith

fashion show, sponsored by Paul Smith in South Africa, and all the nomineesreceive a gift from Paul Smith.

All the finalists and their work are featured on the cover and inside the latestedition of VISI 53, which is on sale now.

Last year VISI introduced a Special Prize for a designer or design team whohad made an overall contribution to the South African design landscape, and not just for a single piece of work. Trevyn McGowan from Source was lastyears winner. This year, Greg Gamble and Philippe van der Merwe fromTonic are the worthy recipients of the Special Award. Tonic is one the few

design operations that consistently bring world-class design to the SouthAfrican market. They should be an inspiration to many.

Along with South Point developers, Silvio Rech and Lesley CarstensArchitecture and Interiors have been awarded for plotting a design visionthat will not only mean a renewed sense of community but also a better-looking, better-functioning city precinct where urbanites can live, work andplay. They envisage the return to the city centre as an opportunity to solve avariety of problems that face South Africa, including housing shortages, transport and security problems as well as sustainable development.

Their approach is to creatively re-inhabit existing structures (as opposed to

constructing new buildings from scratch) possibly the greenestmethodology in architecture. We found the re-use process in Braamfonteinhighly rewarding [for example, in Grove Square]. Decades of differentarchitecture styles were carved out and unified with a playful approach topublic space, says Silvio. We see a return to the city centre as anopportunity to solve a variety of problems that face our country today from housing shortages to transport and security problems.

Silvio and Lesley have developed a range of other uses for these highlydynamic spaces, the crowning glory of which is the Randlords Bar andLounge on the 22nd floor of the South Point Towers. Their design concept forthe bar is perfectly aligned with a contemporary Johannesburg lifestyle: alittle bit of Africa, a touch of burlesque and a lot of sophistication. Futureprojects on rooftops in Braamfontein include hydroponic farms, which will beused to grow produce for markets and restaurants close to or even in thesame building as these farms. The purpose is to make the produce moresustainable by cutting down on energy-guzzling transport. Other projectsbeing tested on these rooftops include affordable solar and wind farms forgenerating electricity as well as ingenious water-collection systems.

5 times Arizona Design awards winner , Irish

borne Ryan Mc Elhinney and sought afterinternational designer, has a raw, creative and

very unique vision when it comes to producing

contemporary, pop art and innovative designs.

With his worked commissioned globally and

Ryans new TOY project on the go, it will not

take long before he becomes an household

name and even more so a design darling inthe creative world. ITK met the infamous

designer in London a while back and recently

managed to catch up with him and this is what

ITK MAGAZINE: Hello Ryan, how are you? The long awaited interview!

RM: Well in Ireland they say Do it slow cos Im in a hurry. Bit like the

    measure twice cut once theory.

ITK MAGAZINE: So tell us, Irish borne, living in London, is this first choice ofdestination to live or is there another place close to your heart?

RM: Well I did a year in Paris working for Disney from 93 to 94 and then 7 yearsin Arizona from 94 to 2001 working for 20th Century Fox. But in an Ideal worldId have a studio in a warm climate near the beach. I would love to live bythe ocean. If I get to wear flip flops every day, then Im most happy.

ITK MAGAZINE: What inspires you most about living in London?

RM: The talent in London inspires me most. I moved here for that reason. I hadvisited the Tate Modern on holiday and I remember how inspired I was. WhenI walked out of the museum I turned around and looked back up at the largeTate Chimney and in an instant knew I had to move to London. I went backto Arizona that week and put my home on the market. I sold everything Iowned and after 7 years returned with one suitcase ready to take on theworld. My family is here so thats a massive bonus. darling in the creativeworld.

ITK MAGAZINE: Youre quite a talented individual with good eye for interiorand design elements, what makes every item you create unique to the RyanMc Elhinney brand?

RM: Im most recognisable for my recycling and the fact that most elementsof my design were destined for the trash heap. Also my work is very tongueand cheek. I try to turn designs on their head and make people think why Ididnt think of that?

    ITK MAGAZINE: TOY BOY? Explain?

RM: Well Toy Boy is a term I use for my Toy Sculpture collection. I used to be anAnimator and while I lived in Arizona I got into going to charity shops. I foundthat they had 100s of bags of Toys. They were the cheapest thing in the shopso bought a couple of bags and made a little Toy Frame. I experimentedfurther and started making bigger and bolder sculptures. In 2001 and 2002 Iwas awarded Arizona Designer of the Year 5 times and one award was formy Toy Sculptures. Over the years I have perfected my craft and now haveclients all over the world. I think people love the sculptures because they seetoys they played with when they were children themselves and every dayspot something they didnt previously see.

ITK MAGAZINE: On a more serious note (smile), youve done interiors forsome interesting people, which project to date has been the most fulfillingto do?

RM: Well some clients I cannot name but I designed a large Hair salon forAdrr Phelan in Covent Garden London. My most Fulfilling client is Momo whoowns a very cutting edge Restaurant called Sketch in London. I made him amassive 9ft tall white Toy Tree. I just love this piece.

ITK MAGAZINE: Your lamps, and plastic toys? Very creative concept what

goes in behind the production of one of those?

RM: I source my Toys from car boot sales and Charity shops. Putting themtogether is a trade secret but its mostly about continuity and telling a story

with the toys. You dont just stick them on. You make sure the charactersinteract and look like there is a theme and relationship going on. The lampsare given 4 costs of paint to achieve the mirror like gloss finish.

ITK MAGAZINE: Where would one find your work?

RM: I used to sell exclusively to Lane Crawford in Hong Kong and Liberty inLondon. I now only work on a commission basis.

ITK MAGAZINE: You were not always in contemporary design, in fact youstudied animation? What happened?

RM: I used to be an Animator but I never really had the passion to make it afull time career. It gave me a great life in America but I knew it was notforever. Then the studio I worked at closed down and I took it as a sign tomake the transition into Interiors and Products.

ITK MAGAZINE: Tell us more about LOVE IS characters?

RM: God thats an old one. Well I grew up in the pub business and I used todraw Love is characters for my days customers. I remember I used to drawthem on Leinster Arms headed paper. Thats the name of my Dads old pubin Ireland. I even remember the texture of the paper. It was grey slightlyribbed paper. I drew or should I say copied the characters and paintedthem in poster paints. Im sure they were shocking, but at the time they

looked right. In return I got red lemonade crisps and peanuts. Hence havinglots of fillings now.

I just saw a drawing my God Daughter Grainne did. Shes only 8 and alreadyan amazing drawer. Much better than I was at her age so keep an eye outfor a future star.

ITK MAGAZINE: Are you a Toy Boy? (Throwing it in for good measures)

RM: I wish I was a Toy Boy. I tried being one, but it brings too many problems.I think Ill leave it to the Sculptures eh!

ITK MAGAZINE: Youve made your mark in UK, are you looking to get yourbrand out to the rest of the world?

RM: Thats the plan hun. I have sold to clients in America, Dubai, New Zealand

and Hong Kong to name a few but yes Id like to see my work everywhere.Im n talks with some Galleries at the moment so we shall see.

ITK MAGAZINE: Are you focusing on any interesting projects at the moment?

RM: Yes, Im working on a series called Toy Soldier and Youth. I am making

sculptures of from Toys of young Soldiers and kids in todays world. Im basingit on the needless waste of young lives on our streets and in wars. Eachcharacter depicts a certain pose and each character has a high beam lightsource emanating from the sculpture. For instance a Toy Youth has a high beam of light coming from the tip of hisgun. This beam of light casts a circle on the ground and inside it is the nameof a victim of gun crime. A toy soldier has a beam of light coming from hishead. This light contains the name of a dead soldier. Im trying to get acharity involved so I can use it to raise some money and awareness. Its quiteraw but if done positively I think it will make people think about it and take thematter seriously.

(ITK AGREES) WE WILL LOOK OUT FOR YOUR CAMPAIGN!

ITK MAGAZINE: What would be the ultimate contemporary design project to

    work on?

RM: I would love to design a hotel or a completely recycled home.

ITK MAGAZINE: Irish men are said to have a good sense of humour is thattrue?

RM: Oh of course. You dated one didnt you? Probably the maddest onethere is, so I think you can answer that question. But seriously yes, we love tolaugh. The only downside is we have a lot more wrinkles and laugh lines as aresult.

(NOW, NOW RYAN, NOT SUPPOSED TO SPILL THE EX FAMILY SECRETS HERE!! HA HA)

    ITK MAGAZINE: Down time?

RM: Oh I wish there was down time. My mind is always switched on. But aperfect night to me: Summer, flip flops, good friends and sushi. Definitely lotsand lots of sushi, Im past the clubbing thing so dinner with friends around a

    big table is perfect.

    ITK MAGAZINE: Women?

RM: I love women. I think they are sooo beautiful. When God designed them hedid a great job. They say behind every good man is a good woman. Im stilltrying to find her but Im sure some random day Ill walk around the corner and

bump into her. Im actually very very shy.

(Aawwweee maybe well find a you a lovely South African lass Ladies inbox me-Kidding)

    ITK MAGAZINE: THE QUEEN

RM: Alexander Mc Queen. Bless him. He died far too young. What a terribleshame.

On the lady herself, Im Irish so I dont really know much about the monarchy.Im sure she is a lovely woman. I just saw the Kings Speech actually. Greatmovie!

ITK MAGAZINE: Would you bbq Lady Gaga if she popped by your house withher meaty outfit? (smile)

RM: Oh I dont think soo. I think she had done very well for herself but Id love tosee the girl pop out in a pair of jeans, t shirt and flip flops. There is too much OTTstuff going on there for me.

ITK MAGAZINE: Advice to those who wish to follow in similar footsteps to yours?

RM: Be prepared to work your as off for years and years. Get used to hearing NoNo- No. Eventually if you believe enough, that No will become a YES. They sayyou need to spend 10,000 hours at something to be at the top of your game.

Hold on Im going to grab the calculator. MMM thats only 5 years. Maybe ittakes a little longer but I guess that depends on what we deem success. Im notquite satisfied yet.(A true artist is never ever satisfied though).

Im lying in my bed and I think of theheadlines I read in major news papers

and posters up around Cape Town yesthe headlines stating , how Shrien took46 tablets.um, trying to kill himself. Its

kind of funny and of course a very sadsituation.

Why would you want to pre meditate killing your partner, in his instance formoney of course. Well speculation is rife and there are all sorts of stories millingaround of him. Did he or did he not?

Did he take those tablets because of stress or because of guilt? At what point doyou lose control mentally, to which it takes you over the edge, when it comes torelationships, love and life?

It seems, in times like these, one cannot even trust your better half even if theymarry you!

The ironic past of relationships were that, we were either paranoid because youfeared that

    1. your partner may cheat on you2. or that there is another woman/man, or

    3. if you go through a divorce, you would try and take the other person athand for all they have (give it, they treated you badly, or you are just a

money hungry person, who does not care whether or not you leave the otherparty involved penniless) uhum. Im sure that is the norm, especially

    amongst those Marry Rich Tarts.

Sadly for those kinds of women or men, in the end, if you look at them

and their lives, are angry, bitter and very lonely people. So does it reallymake it worth your time and effort and energy marrying for money?

Most definitely not, I would think. I would rather go and work on a farm(somewhere where there is champers in the making) cannot work hard, without ending your day with a glass of sparkles now can we? Im onlyjoking.

Money is evil in every sense! You work hard for it; you spend it easilyand then when its done you need more.

Can you imagine what the world would be like if the saying Moneydoesnt grow on trees were in fact, If you plant a penny, it will grow intobank notes ( the high value ones) .It would be one greedy bloodyworld!

Would we be going out there killing people for their pennies?I suppose it would depend on whether or not there are certain penniesthat one can grow or not? Hmmm.

Why for the love of money would one go as far as want to hurt the

otherperson? Someone you love no doubt? Isnt it enough that thethought had crossed your mind?

When does this happen? Is it a case of you (the woman or the man)suck (excuse the pun) in bed or your hips are to big? Or you have a

small (ding dong), you selfish, bitch, bastard, lover, girlfriend or wifeetc.

I suppose it is exactly that though, the greed, the plot (in this case OH YES LETS VISIT AFRICA, SOUTH AFRICA TO BE PRECISE OH IN FACT,

CAPE TOWN FOR THAT MATTERLETS STRATEGISE A SCENARIO), butyou see the important thing to remember is, that , media takeseverything out of context. They always make things seem bigger thanthey are.

If Mr SD did his homework properly, maybe he couldve done a farbetter job, clearly he did not. Let alone find a celebrity publicist Goodold Maxy to represent him. We all know Max loves a good PR stint and heis good at doing, what he does best = PR.

So if in any way this was Dirty I most certainly agree, the sexy elementwas never existing other than the fact that Mrs A D was an absolutestunner and with the money aspect hey, he is spending more moneynow than what he wouldve had , if he possibly plotted a more stable

exercise. Im not saying he shouldve done this nowhumour me

Ladies and Gentleman, husbands and wives, boyfriends and girlfriendsbest you start checking up on your other halves, before you date, marry, sleep or do anything scandalous with the other involved.

Do the following checklist on them:

A: Monthly bank balance checkif they have 0 balance after a 3month period, then be slightly careful, this is exactly what will happen toyou if you happen to give them your bank cards.B: If they have a fairly ok balance in the account, without the no 0attached to it, then give them a chance, 2 strikes and they are out!C: If there are too many 00000000000, be aware, pack your bags, donttake the door keys, dont even ask for your jumper back, just leave, walkstraight out the door and never look back. Chances are they plotted

and schemed for those over doubly zeros!

You are not seriously reading that are you? Point made. Its tough outthere, relationships have become invaluable and trust something whichis earned in many aspects and sometimes it hits you smack bang in theface and you are left with a big old scar.

If its not good for you walk away and dontlet the mind wander and conspirerwe

cannot all afford Max Cliffor or William Boothand not quite sure what kind of spin MarcusBrooster would put on it and you may justend up in places less attractive with noGUCCI OR PRADA to make you smile.

ReviewCape Town has a new hot spot, which ITK is much in favour of and gets our top ratingof 3 stars. It is sleek, boudoir, sophisticated and oozes pure indulgence with regards todcor. If you are a lover of decadent and eclectic mix of food, interior and music, thenthis is definitely the place to be. The outside of the building has the quirkiest elementsimplemented into their window display and the colour of the building gives you theidea that youre about to enter fabulous territory.

What am I talking about? Blakes bar and restaurant in upper Buitengracht Street (theold Ginja and Relish). A sister brand to the very popular Opal Lounge; the brand hasonce again taken a step further in creating something special for the most discerning

Capetonian and traveller. No doubt during the winter months, this will be the perfectnight out for a date, hanging with the girls or simply hiring out the venue for a specialoccasion.

The venue is split into three levels, each boasting its creative element. So on our veryimpromptu visit, my partner in crime and I decided to join Blakes for drinks. We optedfor the 3rd level, with a spectacular view of Cape Towns famous Table Mountain. In thecorner of the room, was the set up for a DJ who on this particular evening wasspinning the most soulful funky eclectic beats James Brown to some deeper soundsof the soul/funk world.

The Waiters were delightful and very helpful in fact I ordered something veryparticular that evening, something which was not really on the menu (FrangelicoCoffee) They did not question me, they made it, delivered the drinks, making me ofcourse the happiest person no doubt. Was this service of class? Of top notch quality(Ive had experiences in the past where waiters would give me the word we almostdread the most in hearing SORRY).

My partner in crime and I went on a talking mission and didnt want to be interruptedand if there is one thing they didnt do was hovering over us like lost sheep we wereabsolutely in favour of the atmosphere. The way things were presented and just the

general service. Considering we did not spend much time there, but will do so in future,ITK highly recommends you to visit. Bookings may be essential.
