    YOUR QUANTUM BODY

Your body appears tobe composed of solidmatter, but quantumphysics shows that

every atom is99.9999% emptyspace, and that

subatomic particles areactually bundles ofvibrating energy.

    3-DIMENSIONAL

    PROJECTION

Mind pervades everycell of our body; ourbodies are really 3-dimensional projectionsof our thoughts.

    Thoughts and feelings

are transformed intomolecules, andmolecules stimulatethoughts and feelings.

    MIND/BODY MEDICINE

This is the currentrevolution called the

    mind/body medicine:wherever thought goes, a

chemical goes with it,especially the hormones ofthe endocrine glands.

When you hear the words Ilove you, your heart startsto pound your emotions

are being transformed intomolecules of adrenaline.

    BIOPSYCHOLOGY

    Neurotransmitters are the billions

of tiny globules of chemicals thatare emitted at the nerve endings, that pass across the gap, orsynapse, between the cells, to

stimulate the next nerve cell. When we are depressed over

losing our job, for example, weproject sadness everywhere in our

bodies. The neurotransmitters forsadness attach to receptors onevery cell: our skin becomes sad,our liver becomes sad, ourkidneys becomes sad.

    We physically become theemotion.

    ENDOCRINE GLANDS

They are the connectingpoints between the realmof the mind and the

    physical realm of matter.

    Our immune cells and

endocrine glands bothhave the same receptorsfor the brains chemicalsignals.

    OVER-UNDER SECRETION

Over- and under-secretion of theseendocrine glands may

cause not onlysickness but variousmental and emotional

    disturbances as well.

    POSTURES & MERIDIANS

There are 12 majormeridians of chi or vitalenergy in the body, most ofthem related to one

    particular internal organwhich they transverse.

Yoga postures directly pressthese key pointsstrengthening the meridiansand if necessary redirecting

the circulation of vitalenergy within them.

    PHYSICAL EXERCISES

Asanas are completelydifferent from other types ofvigorous exercises such ascalisthenics, which involve

rapid movements with greatphysical force, oftenaccompanied by rapidbreathing.

Vigorous types of exercisesdevelop muscles andstimulate circulation, but

they also cause fatigue, heart strain or muscle pain.

    ASANAS

The main differencebetween asanas andother exercises is

that asanas affectthe internal organs, not only the skeletalmuscles and sowe may call them

    innercizes.

    THYROID GLAND

An important gland. Easily harmonized by

    certain asanas, such

as the shoulder stand. A small increase of

the secretion of thethyroid hormoneTHYROXIN may causeprofound physical andmental changes.

  • 8/8/2019 005-6-Body & Mind Health

    16/33

    HYPER-THYROID

Excess secretion ofTHYROXIN may causeirritability and worry, nervousness, heart

palpitation, insomnia, loss of weight, and maymake the eyes bulge likea frog.

Such a person may eatlarge amount of food, but will never become

    fat.

    HYPO-THYROID

Under secretion of thehormone THYROXINmay bring about

    sluggish metabolism,mental dullness, andextreme sleepiness.

Such a person maylike to sleep 12 to 14hours a night!

    SPINAL COLUMN

It is composed of 33vertebrae divided into 4regions:

    the cervical (with 7

    vertebrae); the thoracic or dorsal

    (with 12 vertebrae);

    the lombar (with 5vertebrae);

    80% OF POPULATION

60 years ago most peopleworked standing up, & slept onthe floor or on hard beds.

Now most people sit in front ofmachines: TV, computers, move around in cars or sleep insoft beds.

Bent over our desks at work orat school, our spines graduallybecome curved, and thiscompresses the spinal nerves,

leading to back pain or headache.

    CURVED COLUMN

    CURVED COLUMN

    Due to improper posture,

the vertebrae misalign andpress on the spinal nervesand so either block the flowof impulse or increase it by

irritating the nerve roots. We must gradually

strengthen the musclesnecessary to restore thebody to its proper position, while simultaneouslystretching and loosening

the contracted andtightened tendons, ligaments and muscles.

    OUR POSTURE REFLECTS

Depressed peoplehabitually walk with headdown and shouldersstooped, as if they were

carrying the weight of theworld on their shoulders.

Optimists, on the otherhand, walk with head andshoulders erect, and lookstraight in the eye with

    positivity.

    SEBACEOUS GLANDS

Asana practice stimulates thesebaceous skin glands justunder the surface of the skin tosecrete their natural oils theperfect balsam for our skin.

It is necessary to do a self-massage after doing asanas.

    The self-massage after asana

practice stimulates thesesebaceous glands and rubs thesebeneficial oils back into the skin, maintaining the skin as soft and

    supple.

    LYMPH SYSTEM

Lymph is a vital fluid whichpurifies the body, picking upwaste matter and dead cells.

The wastes are first taken to be

filtered at the lymph nodes, andfinally excreted by the kidneys.

This purifying lymph, whichbathes all cells of the body, is

not pumped by the heart but ismoved by the action of ourmuscles.

    Massage stimulates the flow of

    the lymph.
