1 INTRODUCTION

This practice is a guide to the documents that comprise the RC-28DDigital Multiplexer equipment manual. This guide includes a completelist of all documentation available for the product, a description of theorganization of the manual, and a cross-referenced index to thedocumentation. It also includes an index of the documentation for thehardware and software versions incorporated in this product.

This is a general revision to the RC-28D Digital Multiplexer equipmentmanual. It incorporates editorial changes and updates references to otherpublications. Because this is a general revision, change bars have notbeen used to denote changes.

This practice has been completely revised. Change bars have not beenused to indicate changes.

Revision History

Issue 5 Issue 5 is part of a general revision of the RC-28D equipment manual. In addition, the presentation style has been updated.

Issue 4 Issue 4 was part of a general revision of the RC-28D equipment manual.

Issue 3 Issue 3 was part of a general revision of the RC-28D equipment manual.

Issue 2 Issue 2 corrected errors and omissions that were found in Issue 1.

Issue 1 Issue 1 was the initial release of the RC-28D equipment manual.

3 PRACTICE NUMBERING AND ARRANGEMENT

Each practice in the equipment manual is assigned a unique nine-digitnumber with the form NECA XXX-YYY-ZZZ.

The designation NECA is the general trade manufacturer’s code assignedby Bell Communications Research (Bellcore) to NEC America, Inc.

XXX is the divisional number that identifies the category of equipmentdocumented. The practices in this equipment manual are assigned tonumber 365, digital transmission equipment (except digital radioequipment). The practices referenced in this equipment manual arenumbered within these divisions:

006 NEC references (not included in this manual)

191 Operation Support System (not included in this manual)

340 Teleconference System (not included in this manual)

363 Digital Subscriber Carrier (not included in this manual)

365 Digital Transmission Equipment

YYY is the layer/sublayer number that identifies the specific piece ofequipment or system documented. The RC-28D Digital Multiplexer isassigned the YYY of 410.

ZZZ is the key number that designates the type of information in thepractice. The following key numbers are used:

000-009 indexes and reference

010-099 engineering and ordering information

100-199 descriptions

200-299 installation, acceptance, and maintenance

300-399 operating instructions and procedures

500-599 maintenance and troubleshooting

600-699 drawings

The practices within this manual are arranged in numerical order by ZZZnumbers, the last three digits. When searching for a particular practice, look first for the last three digits.

4 DRAWING NUMBERING AND ARRANGEMENT

Network Element (NE) drawings are assigned a unique nine-digitnumber with the form NECA XXX-YYY-ZZZ, as the documentationnumbers are assigned.

ZZZ is the key number that designates the type of information in thepractice. The key numbers 600-699 are used for NE drawings.

Within the 600 series of numbers, the last three digits indicate theinformation in the drawing practice, as shown in the following list.

5 REVISIONS

Master Change List (MCL) and Document Change Notices (DCN) areissued for interim revisions. The MCL is a summary of status in allpractices included in the manual. The DCN is a summary of status of allpages included in the practice. Changed information will be noted infuture revisions by change bars on the right side of the page.

Documents containing major revisions are reissued; the entire documentis reprinted, and the issue number is incremented. Because the revisionsare extensive, change bars are not used in reissued documents.
