    1 INTRODUCTION1.1 Intended Audience

The user of this document is involved with system integration and/or software design. We assume that the reader is familiar with the terminology and concepts that are used in the DICOM 3.0 standard.

Readers not familiar with DICOM 3.0 terminology should first read the appropriate parts of the DICOM standard itself, prior to reading this conformance statement.

Although the use of this conformance statement in conjunction with the DICOM 3.0 standard is intended to facilitate communication with other medical imaging equipment, it is not sufficient to guarantee, by itself, the inter-operation of the connection. The following issues need to be considered:

    1.1.1 Integration

The integration of any device into a system of interconnected devices goes beyond the scope of the DICOM 3.0 standard and this conformance statement when interoperability is desired. The responsibility for analyzing the applications requirements and developing a solution that integrates the Agfa equipment with other vendors systems is the users responsibility and should not be underestimated.

    1.1.2 Validation

Testing the complete range of possibilities between the Agfa equipment and non-Agfa devices, before the connection is declared operational, is deemed to be a necessity. The user should ensure that any non-Agfa provider accepts full responsibility for all validation required for their connection with the Agfa equipment. The accuracy of image data once it has crossed the interface between the Agfa equipment and the non-Agfa device as well as the stability of the image data for the intended applications is the responsibility of the non-Agfa provider.

    1.1.3 Future Evolution

As the DICOM 3.0 standard evolves to meet the users growing requirements and to incorporate new features and technologies, Agfa will follow the evolution of the standard. This evolution of the standard may require changes to devices that have implemented DICOM 3.0. The user should ensure that any non-Agfa provider, who connects with Agfa devices, also plans future evolution of the DICOM standard. A refusal to do so may reflect in the loss of functionality and/or connectivity between the different products.

1.2 Purpose of this DocumentThis conformance statement specifies the compliance of the Print Management Service Class (PMS) component with the DICOM standard. The Print Management Service Class component is an implementation of the DICOM 3.0 standard for print management. The Print Management Service Class is used to send images to a hardcopy printer for printing on film or paper. The Print Management Service Class is a network print server for the Agfa MG 3000, DRYSTAR 2000 and DRYSTAR 3000.

NOTE:Refer to the Conformance Statements Overview document by visitinghttp://ftp.agfa.com/pub/med/pdf/OVERVIEW.DOC to get an overview of all Conformance Statements and their relationship to one another.

The SCU is responsible for providing the necessary image quality-related attributes to the SCP.

2 IMPLEMENTATION MODEL2.1 Application Data Flow Diagram

    Figure 2.1: Implementation model.

2.2 Functional Definitions of AEsWhen the printing is invoked by the SCU AE, the SCU will make use of the SOP classes defined for Print Management which allow the definition of a Film Session with one or more subordinate Film Boxes, which in turn contain one or more subordinate Image Boxes. The SCU controls the printing by manipulating the Print Management SOP Classes by means of DIMSE services.

The Print Management SOP Classes are managed by the PMS (SCP). The PMS (SCP) waits for another DICOM Print Management Service application AE (SCU) to connect. PMS (SCP) will accept Associations with Presentation Context for the Print Management Service Class. Only one printer is connected to a single PMS.

2.3 Sequencing of Real World ActivitiesNot applicable for Real World Activities.

However, a Film Session has to be created before one or more subordinate Film Boxes can be created. In turn, the Film Box has to be created before one or more subordinate Image Boxes can be created.

3.1.6 Supported Image Storage SOP Classes

The following Image Storage SOP Classes, which support Color Images, are also supported as SCP in combination with PMS as SCP (refer to Table 3.6). The PMS will accept individual Presentation Contexts for these SOP Classes. If none is specified, the one specified for the META SOP Class is used.

    3.1.7 Association Establishment Policies

3.1.7.1 GeneralBefore any SOP Classes can be exchanged between the SCU AE and the PMS (SCP), an association stage takes place to negotiate and exchange the capabilities of the SCU and SCP. The Print Management SCU and SCP establish an Association by using the Association Services of the DICOM Upper Layer. During association establishment, the DICOM Print Management AE negotiates the supported SOP classes. An association needs at least 150 Kbytes on disk quota.

Only the SCU AE shall release an Association. The Association may be aborted by the SCU or by the SCP.

The SCU AE attempts to initiate a new Association for each print session. This means that when no operation is done on the Association, the SCU should release the Association.

One can only send DIMSE messages to instances that are created on the same Association.

The Maximum PDU length for the PDUs offered by the PMS (SCP) is 65542 bytes. This means that the maximum value for a PDU-length field is 65542 bytes.

3.1.7.2 Number of AssociationsThe number of supported Associations depends on the configuration of the printing device, with a maximum of 6 Associations. For DRYSTAR 3000, the maximum number of Associations is equal to 5. No more Associations are accepted if the DRYSTAR 3000 is set offline. However, a printer status OFFLINE is sent if the DRYSTAR 3000 is shut down.

3.1.7.3 Asynchronous NaturePMS (SCP) will only allow one outstanding operation on an Association. The PMS (SCP) can, however, issue an asynchronous N-EVENT message as defined in the supported SOP Classes.

3.1.7.4 Implementation Identifying InformationThe following identifying information is valid:

Implementation Version Name: MG3000_VERSION_3 Implementation Class UID: 1.3.51.0.1.3 DICOM Application Context Name: 1.2.840.10008.3.1.1.1

    3.1.8 Association Initiation Policy

Not applicable to the Print Management Service component, because the PMS (SCP) cannot initiate an Association. The PMS as SCU is not implemented.

    3.1.9 Association Acceptance Policy

The PMS (SCP) accepts an Association. If the Association is rejected or if all possible Presentation Contexts for the supported Meta SOP Classes are rejected, then the PMS (SCP) generates an error message and sends an abort-request for the Association.

The PMS (SCP) obtains the called_AE_title from the ART configuration table (e.g. apip_dest). This configuration is part of the installation procedure and described in a separate document. The calling_AE_title is used to setup specific configuration parameters. This configuration is also described in a separate document.

All Associations must use the same destination TCP/IP port number.

3.1.9.1 Printing Encoded with Implicit or Explicit VR

3.1.9.1.1 Associated Real World ActivityThe associated Real World Activity is the printing of a set of images that is encoded with any VR and requested over the network.

3.1.9.2.2.1 Agfa Film LayoutsThe attributes Image Display Format (2010,0010), Film Orientation (2010,0030) and Film Size ID (2010,0050) are used to uniquely define an Agfa film layout.

    Detailed layout information is described in separate documents. The following documents are available: 8X10 Portrait Layouts for: LR2100, LR3300, LR5200 8X10 Landscape Layouts for: LR2100, LR3300, LR5200 8X10 Portrait Layouts for: DRYSTAR 2000 8X10 Landscape Layouts for: DRYSTAR 2000 14X11 Portrait Layouts for: LR2100, LR3300, LR5200, DRYSTAR 3000 14X11 Landscape Layouts for: LR2100, LR3300, LR5200, DRYSTAR 3000 14X14 Landscape Layouts for: LR2100, LR3300, LR5200 14X17 Portrait Layouts for: LR2100, LR3300, LR5200, DRYSTAR 3000 14X17 Landscape Layouts for: LR2100, LR3300, LR5200, DRYSTAR 3000 14X17 Portrait Long Leg Layouts for: LR2100, LR3300, LR5200, DRYSTAR 3000

Refer to the respective film layouts document for more information (e.g. print box sizes) on the different film layouts. For more information on these documents, see Section 7.1.

3.1.9.2.2.1.1 Film Layouts with Annotation Boxes

Agfa film layouts with annotation boxes have a reserved area at the top and bottom of the film for printing annotations. Referring to an Agfa film layout with annotation boxes is done by mapping the DICOM-defined film format information with the corresponding Agfa film format (layout) identifier by means of an ASCII file (extension .IDF). Each line of this mapping file contains the DICOM film format information, with the corresponding Agfa film format ID as follows:

    film_size\film_orientation\image_display_formatAgfa_filmformat_id

Any combination of these elements is possible, providing that a matching Agfa film layout ID is available. Available Agfa film layout IDs are listed in Table 3.19.

Table 3.19: Agfa film layout IDs with annotations.

3.1.9.2.2.1.2 Film Layouts with max. printable area

It is also possible to use max. printable area film layouts; this means that there is no space foreseen for annotation boxes on these layouts. These max. printable area layouts can be selected in two ways:

By means of the attribute: image_display_format with a value CUSTOM\i. In this case, i is a 3- or 4-digit number that represents the selected Agfa film layout ID.

By mapping the DICOM-defined film format information with the corresponding Agfa film format (layout) identifier, by using the appropriate mapping file (extension .IDF) for these layouts. These mapping files differ from the mapping files used for the default film layouts with annotations. This needs to be configured by Service during installation of the hardcopy device in relation to the AE Title of the host system.

Table 3.20 summarizes the mapping files that only provide a max. printable area for 1/1 layouts. All other layouts are equal to the film layouts with annotation boxes.

Table 3.22: Agfa film layout IDs for max. printable area.

The selection of the used Agfa film layout ID numbers must be decided in consultation with Agfa. Examples:

The attribute values 14INX17IN\PORTRAIT\STANDARD\1,1 select the Agfa layout 1411, if mapping file PMS.IDF is used (DEFAULT behavior). They select the Agfa layout 2411, if mapping file PMS2000.IDF is used (AE Title-dependent configuration).

The attribute values 14INX17IN\LANDSCAPE\CUSTOM\2511 select the Agfa layout 2511. No mapping file is used.

Smoothing Type (2010,000080): the following values for Smoothing Type have a special meaning: "0": - Unsharp smoothing "140": Sharp (Hi-resolution) smoothing

The Smoothing Type attribute, although defined by DICOM with Value Representation type CS, is interpreted as Value Representation type IS by the application. If the Smoothing Type attribute equals "0" or falls within the range "100" to "299" then it is accepted. Otherwise the default Smoothing Type value is used.

If the Magnification Type attribute is "CUBIC" (provided by the SCU AE) and no Smoothing Type attribute is defined, then the default Smoothing Type value is used.

Configuration Information: can be used to define the use of a perception LUT, Annotation Boxes, a Color Separation Table and Window Width/Window Center. The defined parameters need to be separated by the "\" (BACKSLASH) character.

    Perception LUT Supported values:

PERCEPTION_LUT=LINEAR: Linear Perception LUTPERCEPTION_LUT=KANAMORI: Kanamori Perception LUTPERCEPTION_LUT=n: LUT defined by value 'n', n is of VR type IS

When "PERCEPTION_LUT=n" is used, 'n' is defined in the range 75 to 220 as follows:

    n Meaning< 100 Hyper-Kanamori Curve100 Exact Kanamori Curve (same as "PERCEPTION_LUT=KANAMORI")100 to 200 Curve between Kanamori and Linear200 Exact Linear Curve (same as "PERCEPTION_LUT=LINEAR")> 200 Hypo-Linear Curve

    Table 3.23: PERCEPTION_LUT=n.

If no Configuration Information attribute for the Perception LUT is defined by the SCU AE, the default Perception LUT value is taken from the PMS configuration table. The Perception LUT is not used for color images.

    Annotation Box Supported values:

    ANNOTATION1: FILE1ANNOTATION2: FILE2ANNOTATION3: FILE3ANNOTATION4: FILE4ANNOTATION5: FILE5ANNOTATION6: FILE6

This is used to print e.g. a logo on a film. A maximum of 6 files (in TIFF format) can be defined, depending on the layout chosen (refer to MG3000 documentation). An extension .TIF is added to each annotation filename. A filename is a maximum of 8 characters long. Selecting an annotation requires the annotation file to be present.

The following DIMSE services are supported: N-SET

All other DIMSE services return the following error code:

Code Status Meaning0211H Error Unrecognized operation

Table 3.39: DIMSE services error code.

N-SET: For each image in the Basic Film Box, the desired attributes of the Basic Color Image Box should be set. The print application AE (SCU) shall issue a N-SET for the Image Box. The SCP returns a status code. When all needed Basic Image Boxes have been set, the application can issue a print command. There can be empty image positions. By using N-SET, the SCU AE can instruct the SCP to erase the image in the image position by setting a zero length and no value in the attribute Basic Color Image Sequence.
