Worksheet 1 – Safe Social Networking This worksheet has been designed to get students thinking about the topics that will be raised in the Bebo help videos. The students should work in small groups and brainstorm their answers to the questions. Below there are some example answers. Once the students have brainstormed their ideas they should go online and watch the safety videos at safesocialnetworking.com to check their answers and get further advice. What are the pros and cons of social networking? It offers a place to showcase your talents A place to make friends A place to chat to friends A place to put your favourite music (copyright?) A place to have discussions/polls/debates A place to find out what’s happening

What considerations should you think about before uploading content? Appropriateness, what sort of image are you creating of yourself Respectful of others Copyright
What are the benefits of uploading content? Interesting and fun to exchange information and communicate with people this way Showcase your talents
What can you do if you experience bullying online or people misusing your content? Use the block and report functions within Bebo Contact your ISP (internet service provider) Call the police
Worksheet 3 – How to make the most of your Bebo profile To follow on from the students’ brainstorm in the previous activity, this worksheet will take students through the useful videos featured on the Bebo website, safesocialnetworking.com. By watching these videos the students will gain a wide range of useful advice from Bebo on how to make the most of their Bebo profile. Privacy Settings: 3 things to think about before publishing your profile: 1. who do you want to see your profile 2. who else might see your profile 3. should you go private / public
3 things you can do to protect yourself: 1. protect your password 2. register your correct age 3. review your contact list
Going public: Remember when you go public anybody can view and search for your profile and therefore you should be careful about the type of information you publish Anonymity online: Every computer has an IP address which means that people can track a computer to a real address. So therefore, you are not anonymous online. Uploading content: You can put text, video, audio, images

Final Activity As a final activity students should return to their groups and choose one of the topic areas they came across on the help videos. The students should work on producing a poster that could be displayed in the school to teach other students how to make the most of Bebo and what to do if they have problems.
