“Cream CarameL”pHYSICAl EXAmINATION COmmENTS

Super compact, very nice structure which is covered all over with lovely, glistening, sticky trichomes. This strain was harvested slightly early and under the scope the trichomes were only 5-10% amber, but the results are out of this world; nice dreadlock buds with a very nice frosty look. 10/10 for bag appeal.

SmOKE TEST COmmENTS

We tried the Cream Caramel in various methods but my favorite was a bong hit. You got instant pain relief with a super soaring high combined with the most mouthwatering strain I have come across. On the inhale you get a nice fruity hash taste, but the true flavor comes out on the exhale where you get a beautiful taste of ripe blackberries dipped in thick clotted cream. Absolutely divine - not too harsh and the head high was not too much - a very pleasing smoke all round.

FINAl COmmENTS

This is one of the best strains we have come across in a very long time. It hit so many factors for me: pain relief, appetite stimulation, help in easing anxiety and (most importantly for me) not setting a panic attack off like some strains can do! The structure, smell and taste were all on point and we found that you can smoke the caramel at anytime of day; it is a superbly balanced strain that I am sure all who try her will fall in love with. Thank you to Tommy of Sweet Seeds for bringing this strain into our lives (and garden) and a massive thank you to the breeders at Sweet Seeds for creating a top-5-of-all-time strain for our personal use! A top medicinal strain, well done!

The exact laws on consuming cannabis in Colorado aren’t as simple as you might expect, so I’ll try and outline some of the main ones here for those of you hoping to get on the next flight over. In essence, the aim of the legalization was to regulate cannabis ‘like alcohol’, and in certain ways this is what they have done. However, there are some big differences.

Firstly, you cannot simply walk in to a dispensary and buy as much pot as you like. There is a limit of one ounce per person for Coloradans. As frustrating as this may be, it is clear to see why they have introduced this limit. Making it available in unlimited amounts would likely lead to a new black market, defeating one of the initiatives main aims and making it easier for young people to get hold of cannabis.

As for those of us from outside the US (and those from other states), there is a limit of a quarter of an ounce of cannabis per person. Again, despite

this not quite being the free-for-all many would have wanted, it is a step in the right direction - and it does make sense. Despite Colorado’s massive step forward in legalizing cannabis use, the plant is still illegal on a Federal level, as well as still being illegal on a state level in all but one other state. Had Colorado not applied these strict regulations there would inevitably have been a large and steady flow of cannabis into states where it is not yet legal; something politicians and law-makers in those states would simply not have stood for. The Federal Government would have been far more likely, in my opinion, to stamp down on legalization if this had been the case.

Now obviously I do not believe that cannabis flowing into other states through a legally regulated source would have been a bad thing. However, until the rest of the US catches up with Colorado and legalizes its cultivation

and consumption, it is necessary to have strict controls in place so as to not give any excuse for more reefer-madness.

What’s important to remember is that although things may be far from perfect in Colorado (and there have been plenty of people bemoaning their regulations), this is a great stepping stone and a chance to show the Federal Government what can be done. It will not be long before more and more states begin to adopt similar systems to that of Colorado, and once that happens the need for such strict rules will start to fade. Perhaps the biggest example of this will be in how customers pay for their cannabis. At the moment, due to Federal laws, it is not possible to pay using a card and dispensaries are unable to use bank accounts to do business. As a result, all transactions are made using cash only; a far from ideal situation but one which, again, will change in the future.

Overall, despite all of this, legalisation has so far been a huge success. Over $1,000,000 was made in sales on the first day and it hasn’t dropped off much since. With any luck, this clear financial incentive may just be enough to make other Governments look more seriously at what is going on in places like Colorado. Of that one million dollars, roughly 290,000 dollars will have been taxes – that’s a huge amount of revenue for the state whatever way you look at it.

With legalization now in place in Colorado, coming soon in Washington State (and of course with Uruguay making major headway) and being seriously talked about in countries as far apart as Jamaica and Morocco, it will surely not be long before this trickle of reform becomes an unstoppable tide. When this happens it will be up to us to keep the pressure on those in power in the UK in order to force them to change their cowardly ways. Too many people are suffering needlessly in this country under our current system of prohibition and this has to change. Colorado are leading the way for the rest of the world to follow, let’s hope for all of our sake they don’t mess it up. No pressure.

As the sun rose on the first day of 2014, the good citizens of Colorado were preparing to be a part of history. Back in November 2012, they voted to legalize the production, sale and consumption of cannabis to any person over the age of 21; as of last Wednesday that is now a reality.

TRANSplANTING SEEDlINGSDuring the stages between germination and vegetative growth the grower may find that plants outgrow their pots. Transplanting to bigger pots should be done as early as possible.

Here is an example. When your seedlings are ready, simply lift them from the propagation tray along with the rockwool cube and place the cube and seedling into a bigger container full of another grow medium, such as soil or a hydroponic setup (more about hydroponics can be found in Chapter 9 of The Cannabis Grow Bible). There is not much of a problem when transferring a cube and seedling to soil. Just dig a small hole in the soil for the cube and place in the cube in the hole. Then cover the cube with soil. The cube will not affect your plant’s growth and will provide additional support as it grows into its larger container.

Even if you have started your seedlings in soil, transferring them to bigger pots need not be a complicated process. The problem you’ll encounter is that, in order to move the soil and roots from one pot to another, the plant must be lifted out gently, with the soil in place. The most important objective of any transplant is to keep the roots intact while avoiding as much material spillage as possible.

HOW IS THIS DONE? THERE ARE THREE BASIC WAYS:

The first way is to simply cut away the base of the smaller pot and place it inside the bigger pot of soil. The roots will grow down through the hole in the bottom of the smaller pot and into the larger one.

The second way involves making sure that the soil is very dry. Delay watering your plant for a couple of days and let the soil settle until hard. Then you can use a clean knife to cut around the inside edge of the pot. Cut deep, but not so deeply that you risk damaging the roots. Then push your fingers down into the sides and lift the plant and soil out. Some soil will break away but this shouldn’t affect your plant. Quickly place the plant into the larger pot and cover with soil. Give your plant some water so that it will take to the new soil. Although you can lift some

plants out of their pots by pulling on the stem, this can cause problems down the line. You should always maintain a firm grip on the soil when transplanting.

If your soil is very compact, you may be able to turn the pot upside down and gently tap the whole medium out as one solid mass. This transplanting method — turning the pot upside down and tapping it out—is a very professional way of transplanting but you should try it out first on a plain pot of dry soil. A bit of practice will pay off in the long run. Simply move your hand to cover as much of the top of the pot as possible. The stem should be resting at the base between your fingers.

Lift the pot and plant up with the other hand. Turn the plant upside down and use your free hand to pull the pot away from around the soil. You can also use the remains of an indoor harvest (if the cut stem is still in the soil in the pot) to practice this.

TRANSplANTINGThis section is about a premeditated transplant. If you are in need to make an emergency transplant because of overfeeding, then consult “soil flushing.”

Transplanting is the procedure of taking something from one location and then moving it to another location. Technically, transplanting can occur over any conceivable distance. The primary concern in all instances throughout the method is plant health and avoiding unnecessarily damage. Transplants can be as simple as moving a germinated seedling from its incubation cube to some soil in a simple, swift pickup and bury, and as advanced as moving multiple fully grown plants from one location to another over long distances. Transplanting is all about pre-planning and then doing the plan slowly. It can be challenging but experience makes it easier and will give you more confidence.

Transplanting seedlings is a different procedure from the one described next. For transplanting seedlings, read the previous section.

Clean your tools and containers. Many cultivators consider the digging of the plant to be the most difficult part of the process. For small plants, a simple hand-held trowel with a pointed, scooped metal blade is used to break up the soil. Plant
