Erwin Lake residents plan to
appeal market, gas stationBy JUDI BOWERSReporter
The proposed Erwin Lake Market at the
corner of State Lane and Highway 38 was
given the OK by the county, but it’s a
long way from a groundbreaking ceremony.
Those opposed to the project say they will
file an appeal.
Munem Maida own the parcel and pro-
posed the convenience store and gas station
at the site almost two years ago. On Feb.

Commission unanimously approved the
conditional use permit. The proposal also
includes a caretaker’s residence.
According to Dave Prusch, of county land
use services, appeals must be filed within 10
days of the Feb. 5 decision or the Planning
Commission ruling becomes effective.
A group of residents and property own-
ers in the Erwin Lake area plan to file an
appeal prior to the deadline. According to
Tricia Cameron of Erwin Lake, the residents
in the area are working with the Friends of
Big Bear Valley in appealing the project to
the county Board of Supervisors. Cameron
said it’s her and others belief that the initial
study and mitigated negative declaration is
“wholly inadequate.” There are hydrology,
