El Cuervo Mexican Restaurant VisitSpanish 101

Professor-This project can be assigned to all students since it will be completed outside of class. It may be used as part of an honors contract or as one of multiple choices for a class of approximately 30 students. Additionally, it should be due towards the end of the semester so the students can incorporate material learned throughout the semester. Feel free to modify this activity so it better fits your teaching style and/or course needs. The student is responsible for transportation to and from restaurant and any food or drink purchased.

Student- You will be completing this assignment outside of class time and you will need to contact the restaurant owner, Ricardo Barajas, to express your interest in scheduling an interview with him. You may reach him at the following number: (619) 295-9713.

All written components must be typed using a legible 12 pt. font and double spaces. Please turn in written sections via Padlet (instructions included) to your instructor, which will enable you and your instructor to share files and collaborate together. For any items you have to research on the the internet, please make sure you use multiple reliable sources. When the questions/prompts are in English, you answer in English. When the questions/prompts are in Spanish, you answer in Spanish. Please read ALL parts of this project before completing since there are some sections you will need to complete ahead of time. Also, it is vital that you turn in a polished and completed project, therefore, complete sentences, proper punctuation, correct capitalization, correct use of Spanish written marks are of the utmost importance. Please number and label all of your answers. You are responsible for transportation to the restaurant. Purchasing food or a beverage is optional.

Parte E Entrevista. Contact the owner of the restaurant, Ricardo Barajas, to set up a 30 minute interview. Call Mr. Barajas to make an appointment with him or visit the restaurant at a typically slower time of the day (in between meals). You can contact him at: (619) 295-9713. You will ask him the following questions in Spanish and also prepare ahead of time a handful of additional questions in English about his experience at the restaurant. Be sure to include proper greetings and farewells. Also, please take notes during the interview.

Parte G Una foto. Include at least one photo of yourself at El Cuervo and/or with the owner.

Parte H Expresión creativa: WordClouds. Follow these instructions to create a beautiful word cloud:

● In a new word document, make a list of 30+ one-word

terms (2+ word terms will be separated) in SPANISH

related to this project and your experience with El Cuervo. You can choose food

vocabulary and words from your research and/or the interview. Also, you can include

terms that express your thoughts and feelings about this experience, for example:

comida, almuerzo, delicioso, tacos, etc. (you may use a dictionary/translator).

● Repeat one or more of the terms multiple times in the list so that they will stand out in

your word cloud.

● Save your document.

● Click on http://www.wordclouds.com/. There is no need to create an account.

● Click on FILE and then PASTE/TYPE TEXT. A box will appear and you can cut and paste

your text in list format (no numbers or bullets). Click on APPLY.

● To edit your list click on WORD LIST.

● You can edit the size, shape, color, and font style. You can also randomize, widen or

tighten the gaps between the words, change the direction of the text, and invert. MASK

will hide or show the border of the shape you are using.

● Be creative!

● To save your word cloud, click on FILE and you can save it as a PNG, JPG, or PDF file.

Then cut and paste image into an email and send to the instructor.
