Website Report

I aimed to support my professional development through my degree, as well as to showcase my further career path within the artist community. To do this I have explored WordPress and developed a further platform to advertise my practice and myself as a practitioner.

When staring my website, I created a range of title pages, so that everything was clearly set out for the viewers as I have found that the best websites I have visited, are those that are easily navigable and neat. I now believe that one of the key aspects to a successful online platform is the theme and layout chosen. I spent time experimenting with what theme and fonts work best, so that I could keep this consistent and give my online presence a unique identity, making it memorable to my audience. I decided to use a striking image of a hair print I created, so that it would be an instant eye-catcher for the audience.

When writing each post, I made sure that they were not only descriptive, but evaluative of my practice so that when I am revisiting my blog, I can use it as a guide when needed. It can also be a help-site for the audience, as I find whenever I am unsure of something, I tend to search for the answers.

I decided to include a range of sources including images of my experiments, physical outcomes as well as primary and secondary recourses. When inputting artist research, I made sure that all images

were clearly labelled and referenced, so that an online audience would be able to find the artwork if they wanted to. By displaying the secondary recourses, such as artists like Liz Magor, I have been able to show the key role that secondary recourse have had on the progression of my work. It also shows my audience that I am aware of other artists, and interested in

learning more about the art world around me. When it came to posting my experiments, I decided to attach them as circular photograph images as I believe that they show elements of my practice and engage the audience into wanting to see more of my practice, and visit my online presence frequently.

From creating an online presence through WordPress, I have been able to explore the way in which other artists are using their online presence to communicate to a wide range of people throughout several countries. It not only allows for self-reflection on my practice away from the studio space environment but it furthers the development of this practice by being able to notice and evaluate both the successes and limitations within each module.

To further the progression of my website, there are still customisation elements that I will experiment to improve, such as the thumbnail above my website name, and perhaps as my colour pallet of my physical outcomes is now becoming brighter, my WordPress website may adjust to this too, depending on the outcome of my module.

This module has allowed me to investigate my future career path and create a website/blog of a high quality, purposeful and targeted to an online audience.
