Are you ok for there to be more than one person talking at the same time? If not, you need some type of procedure in place to make sure that only one person speaks at a time.

Why didn’t you have students explain their answers

Page 4: jb80044671.files.wordpress.com€¦ · Web viewO. NavarroUCLA SVAH History 10 Period 1. ... it was a world war. ... S – Miss do we write it where it says that one word. J ...

Debrief:

Javier indicated that today was a “better day.” He ovserved students writing, listening, and developing questions about the subject matter. Ayuri was happy with the effort although had concerns about the “execution.” She did acknowlege that putting students in pair-shares and breaking up the lecture was positive. They anticipated that today would be a “tougher” day because they were lecturing.

I commented that sharing the essential questions with the students was positive. It solidified the purpose of the lesson. Additionally, students enjoyed the images that were included in the powerpoint. At different time of the lesson, their was a high level of engagement on the subject matter. I also like the TWPS during the lecture. However, I recommend that the sharing out portion in not skipped.

Ayuri and Javier share concerns about the noise level and student engagement. They are in the process of trying to figure out an attention getter or procedure to keep students attention. There was some chatter throughout the class, which impacted the delivery of the lesson. They both agree that they are not okay with so much chatter. I recommended to have more structured, rather than loose activities. For

example, The TWPS should be structured to focus the conversation. Also, I recommended that they spend more time reviewing the instructions of an activity. A couple times during the lesson (C-Notes & TWPS), students were confused and did not know what to do. This leads to more student chatter and disengagement. We discussed that instruction should be clear and posted to assist students.

Overall, there are a lot of positive things occurring during the lesson. Once all these elements come together, their “execution” will be a lot more effective.
