Dominique JamesYes, I have been in contact with Laura and I am working on our constitution so that we can become an organization and apply for a budget.

Senator GreeneHow many people are members of this group?

Dominique JamesCurrently we have 11 girls dancing with us. It ranges from 10-20 people, both boys and girls.

Senator ParentYou mentioned that people had to pay in the past. How much did they have to contribute?

Dominique JamesIt usually is about $75 per person.

Chair DignanI think this is a no-brainer. Dancing teaches confidence and this is a great way to get to meet new people and learn new styles of dance.

Chair WilliamsI’m actually surprised that we haven’t gotten a contingency like this from another group aside from Dance team. This is exactly what the fund is for and it is well put together.

Jeff MogaveroThe Green House’s mission is low-impact living so we do a lot of canning, pickling, and bread making. We also make dinner each night with local food for ourselves and six guests.

Gretchen O’LearyThere are enough people on our listserv that those interested likely are receiving information and we are always willing to add more.

Gretchen O’LearyWe do not have the budget right now.

Gretchen O’LearyWe will not be able to afford the sixth trip. We also want to keep the cost to students down.

Gretchen O’LearyCorrect, there are only two trips this semester that involve flights.

Gretchen O’LearyYes, we receive gas accommodations and food stipends. People can purchase more on their own accord if they’d like.

Senator LeechI think that the OC is a selling point for the university as a whole.


Chair WilliamsIn admissions it is highly praised that we have the second oldest outing club in the country. It is wonderful that we can provide these trips for the most number of students for a low cost. We are able to help kids explore nature a bit and that is wonderful.


Senator RichI know there is concern about who will be able to find out about these events and that is the point of this contingency. There is the desire for these trips and students are interested.

Sean MorrisseyWe had a dialogue with them and they allowed us to use this innovation grant for capital improvements, as it is partially a safety issue.

Chair DignanIf this is a big safety issue, why are we being asked for a contingency?

Dean TolliverEben Holden was shut down and is now used by Campus Kitchens. If the oven doesn’t work then everything gets shut down.

Chair ColtonIf you do not get this contingency, but already have purchased the oven, what will you do?

Sean MorrisseyIt was purchased with the assumption that this would pass, and that is the reason why it was already purchased.

Senator GreeneBecause Campus Kitchens is student run, is that why facilities is charging for the installation?

Sean MorrisseyYes, it won’t be a huge process, but they are charging.

This does seem like an unforeseen cost. Campus Kitchens is a great resource that we should fund.

Constitutional Amendment: Mariah Dignan ‘16

OriginalThe Elections Chair has the right to invite Senators to join a temporary Elections Committee, which shall aid the Chair for the duration of the elections cycle. Senators who choose to join the Elections Committee will be relieved of all other committee duties for the duration of the election cycle.

NewLet it be amended to Article XIV, Section 2, Voting Procedures, Point 3: that the SeniorExecutive Board shall appoint four Senators, excluding the Elections Chair, to sit on the temporary Elections Committee during times of election. Senators on the Elections Committee will be relieved of their other committee duties for the duration of the election.

Should the candidate accept the disqualification, the decision of the elections

committee is final. The disqualified candidate has the right to request a hearing with the Senior Executive Board in which case the disqualification is subject to super majority approval by the Senior Executive Board. After the Senior Executive Board has rendered their decision of disqualification, the Senate will hold the ultimate/final decision by either approving or disproving the Senior Executive Board’s holding by a 2/3 majority vote. The candidate in question has the right to be present to address questions from the Senate.

OriginalThe initial voting period will last five (5) weekdays.

NewLet it be amended to Article XIV, Section 2, Voting Procedures, Point 13: that the initial voting period is from Wednesday to Wednesday to ensure that if a candidate is subject to disqualification, then there would be a meeting to hear the case. In the event of a case being brought before the Senate, the voting period shall be extended to Friday to allow ample time to vote.

NewLet it be added to Article XIV, Section 2, Voting Procedures, Point 19: that the disqualified candidates votes will be considered in the overall vote total (in order to have a legitimate election). Whether or not the candidate has the most votes by the end of the election cycle, she/he cannot win the election.

NewLet it be added to Article XIV, Section 2, Voting Procedures, Point 20: that petitions to reinstate a disqualified candidate must be submitted within one week of when the candidate was formally disqualified by the Senate. Moreover, the Elections Committee will consider petitions if half plus one of the number of students who voted in the election signed the petition. Once theElections Committee recognizes the validity of the petition, a recall election will be pursued.

President NickersonAre there any questions for Mariah about the Amendment?

Senator HydeMy only concern is that we are going to turn this body into a judiciary and as a result, we do not have a process for the accused party to tell his or her side of the story. The constitution should be black and white.

Mariah DignanThat is a valid concern and I would say that they get their opportunity in front of the executive board and it is the executive board’s duty to allow them to present their side of the argument.

Chair WilliamsIf we are going to be very explicit, are we saying that they can raise their case to the elections committee? How much detail are we going to add?

Mariah DignanThe elections committee will do their own research. This is more democratic than it has been in the fall.

Chair ColtonWhat are you asking for, Senator Hyde?

Senator HydeI just want the candidate to be able to speak his peace and we should add that explicitly.

Senator LeechHow are we deciding how many votes are required for the recall election?

Mariah DignanWe will take the number of votes at the time of the disqualification, take half and add one. This is how many votes are required in a recall election.

Senator DiMezzoWill the elections committee process still be the same as far as conducting research? And will that candidate stay on the ballot?

Mariah DignanYes. The voters will be informed, and their name will stay on the ballot.

Chair PowersJust to clarify, will a candidate stay on the ballot throughout this process?

Mariah DignanYes, the only way to be removed is after the senate’s decision.

Mariah DignanIt will be within a week of the formal disqualification. We are not changing the recall process.

Senator RichI understand the recall as only possible once the individual has taken office. Can we review the current wording?
