The respondents of the study were 52 persons are randomly selected in the University. The

study used thy dichotomous survey research design. There are 52 persons were random

selected in the study, survey questionnaires and interview were used in data gathering, results

showed the highest of respondents where in 16 to 17 age brocket. There were more female

respondents than males

DEDICATIONThis is dedicated to Sir. Jeff Feliciano, whose passion for teaching a set a new standard

for anyone involved in education, and development or any endeavor in which student being

seeks to support the growth development of another. While I realize that writing Thesis is like a

mad dash to finish of along marathon: it adds luster to your well-deserved degree. In theory, at

least. Because in practice, it turns out that a thesis is often a stumbling block to students.

Sometimes, students don’t have the slightest clue as to what is expected from them, and it is

becoming increasingly common for them to call in the (paid) help of a thesis. It’s an unusual

thing to include, I think it needs to be shared to the student so that they will be learn more about

doing thesis because you can use to express the purpose or main point of your essay.

Additionally, the thesis may include the significance of or your opinion on this topic. It is your

commitment to the reader about the content, purpose, and organization of your paper.

CHAPTER 1

Introduction (Background of the study)

Students can get distracted and start using social media for their purposes

and not pay attention to the education content. Distraction is gong happen to a certain extent

and there is not a lot the faculty member can do to prevent it. Relying too much in social media

for communication can stiff a student ability to interact in person. This is a problem throughout

society and not just limited to education. Many of youths today have grown up with technology

and many times it is easier for them just to communicate online and not in person.

Having the student to through a social media technology such as “Google

Hangouts” can sometimes break the ice and allow them to communicate better in person. This

one of the main reasons that social media in education should be supplement to educational

activities and not only a methods of instructional delivery.

Baguio Central University was one of the school here in Baguio City. This school

use the social media to post someone information about the school to promote for the students

who wanted or who are interested to study here. They also use Social Media to post offered

courses. The school makes an account in site which Facebook. They named it as BCU

files(account) which they can give some information about an event that will be hold in school

for the students.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

RESEARCH QUESTIONS

I. CASE STATEMENT:

The role of Social Media in education and its effects on students

performance has multiple dimensions. This research represents the positive and negative

effects of using Social Media on the students academic performance. It is found that using

Social Media either does not effects are very slight. It is also found by the research that it

depends upon students personality traits whether Social Media will affect their performance

negatively or positively.

II. RESEARCH QUESTIONS:

2. What are the uses/functions student are Social Media?

THEORITICAL FRAMEWORK

Robert Snow states how power structures and power disparities impact peoples

lives .Robert Snow explains that power is unequally divided and some group dominate

other social order is based on manipulation and central by dominant groups. Enhances

understanding to conflict between person ideas, groups classes and larger social

structures social chance is driven by conflicts with periods of change interrupting

periods of stability. In the theory relationship, An Individual who watches a great deal of

television may come to view the world as more violent that actually is.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

Effects of social media to the student of BCU problem significance is that we

will know what are maybe the advantages and disadvantages to learning students.

Social media can be a powerful enhancement to the way students learn. It does take

some planning and thought process before implementation.

Some studies find positive relationship between social media and students

academic performance. It is also found by the research that it depends upon students

personality. But there are negative effects of the use social media like the effects of

Facebook on academic performance of those students who have extrovert (friendly)

personalities on their academic performance.

The above studies shot that research on the role of social media and social

networking sites in academic performance of students is still unclear about the results.

Most of the researchers that finding answers despite opposing opinions majority of

research has found social media as useful forwards educational infrastructure and

students social grooming. However, careful investigation is still demanded in this area.

Further research must be carried out to establish well defined ways in which benefits of

social media in students performance and hence education can be maximized

CHAPTER 2

Using technology for the educational purposes and identification of suitable tools and

technologies to achieve academic goals and objectives. Technology has been already steadily

envolving in order to the need for information sharing. Education systems locally and probably

have for many years been monitoring students and business needs in order to update and

enhance for curriculum so as to improve students skills and meet business by using the latest

depression and anxiety, poor sleep quality, cyber bully. While on the other hand, positive effects

impacts on social media platforms include, that is great for making and maintaining relationship

with people, self expression, self identity, emotional support, and community wilding.

CHAPTER 3

Research Design

Data will be collected using survey questionnaire. The researchers will personally

administer the questionnaire to the respondents so that the researcher wpill personally explain

instruction to the respondents.

In the study, case study method was utilized case study method is used to obtain

information the present situation to gain an undersanding of a certain phenomena, Thus case

study method was applied in this study for it aims to mprove the performance of grade 11

learners at Baguio Central University.

Data Gathering Tool

In gathering the data needed in study a questionaire and in depth interview main tool

used. A questionaire and in depth, interview are the form prepared and distributed to secure

responses to a certain topics.

The 1st part of the questionare and in depth interview were a letter respondent followed

by question on the following to the following topics. (1) How does social media affects the

performance of the students on BCU SHS? (2) What are the positive effects of social media to

the students to the students in BCU SH? (3) What are the negative effects of social media to the

students in BCU SH?

Insert Question: The Sample Questioner is Given in Figure 1

Data Gathering Procedure

The researchers personally distribute the questionaire during break time. Also for the

respondents to classify thing they do not understand in given questionaire

Locale and Population of the Study

The respondents of the study were in the grade 11 learners of Baguio Central University.

Purposeful Random Sampling was used where there are 11 sections namely ABM-A, ABM-B,

ABM-C, HUMSS-A, HUMSS-B, HUMSS-C, HUMSS-D, STEM-A, STEM-B, STEM-C, TVL. The

research select students in each section making it 10% per section. Therefore there are 52

learners who will be the subject for study.

CHAPTER 5

CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION

Conclusion

This research investigated the Effects of Social Media to the Students of Baguio

Central University Grade 11. Primary data were collected by randomly distributing

questionnaires to 52 respondents. As mentioned earlier in the introduction, the purpose

of this study were to investigate the Effects of Social Media, the effects of social media

to the students and how the students manage their time when using social media.

The following conclusions can be drawn from the survey. First, the effects of

social media to students said that the effects of social media to them is it causes

Addiction due to the use of social media. Second, the effect of social media to the

respondents is laziness due to the over use of social media. The results of this study

indicate the effects of Social Media to the students of Baguio Central University.

However, these findings cannot be generalized to other university students. The same

study needs to be conducted with students from other universities to see if there are any

similarities with the factor that will influence student’s choice in selecting the places to

online.

Recommendation Based on the Findings

Based on the findings and conclusion of the study, here are several

recommendations to be considered:

1. We recommend to the students who uses social media over 1-2 hours to

lessen because it can cause illnesses like blurry eyes etc.

2. Students should change their attitudes and do not always use Social media

especially in the middle of the class.

3. Students should change their attitude because it can cause low academic

performance.
