The Convention Committee have given a lot of their time to organise this Convention, so please make it worth their while by attending at least one part of the Convention.32 clubs will be recognised for achieving and reporting at least one of the 4 categories of the Centennial Challenge. 5 Clubs managed all 4!

Robyn & I had the pleasure of visiting the Hamilton Chartwell Lions Club on Tuesday night. Scary thought when you realise the Club has 2 Past International Directors and Past District Governors in their membership. Any fears I had were set aside when I was greeted with open arms and a big hug by PID Lucie Armstrong, and a warm welcoming hand shake from PID Ken Jones & PDG’s Norm Thomson & Mike Cousins.Thank you President Kerry Beach and your members for your hospitality and the very warm welcome given to Robyn & I.Robyn was most appreciative of the beautiful potted plant given to her by PID Lucie and will be taken to our Convention Motel to display and be enjoyed by all. Thank you Lucie.

It was also a honour to present the following awards at the meeting.45-year Charter Monarch Chevron; Lion Owen Henderson, the last remaining Charter Member.45-year Monarch Chevron; PID Ken Jones.30-year Monarch Chevron; PDG Norm Thomson.15-year Charter Monarch Chevron; Lion Jim Hammersley15-year Monarch Chevron; PDG Mike Cousins & Lion Peter Taylor.Congratulations to you all.

We held our 3rd Cabinet meeting on Saturday at the Lake Karapiro Centre. A great venue indeed.I was taken by surprise and emotion, when prior to having our Cabinet photo taken. I was presented with a beautiful “Korowai” to wear during our meeting. The Korowai belongs to the family of Cambridge Lion member Doug Taranaki and was made by Doug’s sister. It was with great honour that I wore the Korowai throughout our meeting and I felt the “Mana” of doing so, that it commands.Thank you Lion Doug for giving me this great honour.Next, again before our photo, I was welcomed to the Waipa District by Deputy Mayor Grahame Webber and presented with a book about the Waipa District.Thank you DM Grahame for your kind words and welcome.Next the photo was taken, then down to work, on time, at 10am!!The meeting was held in a very friendly, relaxing atmosphere throughout, with only a few distractions. {ask IPDG Paula McWha!}Thank you Lion Peter Knox and your team from Cambridge Lions [It is always good to see the smiley face of Fred Hansen!] for organizing the venue, the honours’ bestowed upon me, the morning tea & lunch. [ I saw a few belts loosened to accommodate the food!!]

Once again, “DONT FORGET TO GET CONVENTION REGISTRATIONS IN!”Whakatane is ready and waiting for you.

Robyn & I pass on our best wishes to those Lions and their family members who have health issues at present and wish a speedy recovery.

Be careful, keep safe and we look forward to catching up with many of you at Convention.TENA KOUTU, TENA KOUTU, TENA KOUTU KATOAPS; don't forget our Convention ……😏

Lion Tails – Out and About

Congratulations to Taupo Pakeke - A great community cause. Here is a photo of Lion of Past President, John Fry, (centre) presenting a cheque for $4,000.00 to promote the Ironkidz triathlon event in Taupo.  The photo and an accompanying article appeared in the Taupo Weekender recently.  This children’s Triathlon event is run annually by Waipahihi School in conjunction with other local schools and Kids Bike Taupo, an interschool learning to ride bike programme to encourage a new generation of cyclists.  The donation came from the takings of the Cobb

& Co Lions Express in Taupo and as John said in his presentation speech “Supporting the triathlon open to children aged from five to fifteen years fitted in with the club’s ethos of backing local organisations.  It is part of our ongoing commitment to service”Graham Mock Publicity/ Bulletin Editor
