What is Touhou? Touhou is a popular danmaku/bullet hell style game

The first Touhou game came out in 1996

There is a huge cast of characters, though only around 8 are male. (depending on what you call male)

Game Specifics The Touhou Project (東方 Project) is a

series of 2D (with 3D background) vertically-scrolling danmaku shooting games made by Team Shanghai Alice, with three fighting game spinoffs co-produced with Tasogare Frontier. They are similar to regular shooting games, but focus more on weaving through complex patterns containing anywhere from dozens to hundreds of bullets. Every game in the Touhou series is set in the fantasy land of Gensokyo, and the series is known for its huge cast of characters, well-developed storylines, and related materials such as music CDs, fan-made comics and animated videos made to the music. Mechanics How to play: You don’t playThe game plays you.Jk.Arrows to move. Z to shoot, X to bomb, and shift to focus. You collect power-ups and point items to get more lives.

Touhou’s Origins

Touhou was created by Team Shanghai Alice. This “team” consists of only one person,

known as ZUN. ZUN is an underweight, drunk Japanese

man. He recently got married. He creates all the games, including the

music, art, and programming. He also writes the printed works.The only games he did not do on his own are the fighting games, which he collaborates with Tasogare Frontier to make.

Reimu and Marisa

Reimu is a lazy, broke shrine maiden. (left)

Marisa is a thief magician. (right) They are the two main characters and

solve the incidents.

Fighting Games Photography Games, which are a slight

variation on the shooting games Fan-games, there are many of these,

many are parodies of other games. SAKE SHOOTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Music

The music is fantabulous. There are many Circles dedicated to

remixing music. Some examples are IOSYS, Silver

Forest, and Alstroemeria Records.

Fangames There are tons, literally hundreds

of fanmade Touhou games.

Some are original, others are parodies such as Touhoumon, New Super Marisa Land, Cirno Smash Climbers, Touhouvania, and Touhou Mother.

Print Works

Furthur expansion of Touhou lead to ZUN extending his works into the print section of media.  Not only ZUN himself but many professional artists have also partnered with ZUN to create artistic graphic novels to portray the world of Gensokyo and the characters.  If you wish to quench your thirst for wisdom then read the stories and legends listed below.  Here is where all of ZUN's literature ideas have come to fruition and it is yours for the taking. I believe there are around twenty of these now? Due to other artists helping ZUN, the art in these books

does not suck.
