On a brisk, fall day in October many of our members took a tour of one of the non-profit charities we support through our monthly raffles and home tours. Jason Hynson, director of Wonderland Camp, gave us a walking tour of their buildings and grounds. We learned the Camp is equipped with a medical center, dining hall, a pavilion

complete with stage, soccer fields, archery area, handicapped ac-cessible playground and swimming pool. Every-thing a traditional camp has, just adapted for special needs. The Camp has been maintained and en-hanced by local ben-efactors such as Jay-cees and Rotary Clubs and even some of our members.

It was impressive and admirable to see how our donations are being used.

Ron was killed in a car accident July 7th. It is in his honor that we donate to the homeless shel-ter. We will have a presentation by our charity of the month, the Lake of the Ozarks Stop Human Trafficking Coalition. Hope everyone has recovered from the election and is ready for the holiday season!

Ladies Luncheon

December 15

A big thank you to everyone who attended the October luncheon, especially those who participated in the mystery the-ater! I am looking forward to the November 17th luncheon! Don't forget to bring your old flags and extra sewing supplies, and leave with lots of great gifts from Unique Boutique! The De-cember 15th luncheon is at Old Kinderhook, in the Creek View Conference Room. Old Kinder-hook is located at 20 Eagle Ridge Rd, Camdenton, MO. The ice rink will be open and Kinder-hook will be decorated. Santa

and his elves will be there so wear your Christmas sweaters and jingle bells for pictures with Saint Nick! Jackie Newton will be entertaining us with Christmas songs. The menu includes the Hook grilled chicken sandwich with stone ground mustard mayo and sweet roll, served with house fries, fresh fruit, and chef's choice dessert. Please bring a non-perishable food item to donate to Lake Area Helping Hands. You may recall that their director, Ron Estep, spoke to us at last May's meeting. He even helped out with the talent show! Sadly,

Did You Know? Unique Boutique is open to the public after 1 p.m. on November 17th?

So tell all your friends and family—and everyone else, too—to head to Camden on the Lake for the Newcomers/Longtimers Unique Boutique!

Please support our many vendors that are all N/L Members!

This month’s selection is The Shoemaker’s Wife by Adriana Trigiani. Because our usual date falls during Thanksgiving week, we are postponing our meeting until the following week, Tues-day, November 29th. We’ll stick with our usual meeting time of 4 pm at Baxter’s Lakeside Grille, 2124 Bagnell Dam Blvd.

The Shoemaker’s Wife is a breathtaking multigenerational love story that spans two conti-nents, two World Wars, and the

quest of two star-crossed lovers to find each other again. The Shoemaker's Wife is replete with all the page-turning adventure, sumptuous detail, and heart-stopping romance that has made Adriana Trigiani, “one of the reigning queens of women’s fiction” (USA Today).

Please come to the meeting, even if you haven’t read the book and experience the fun and the lively discussion!

Book Club Meets Tuesday, November 29—Featured Club

NE WS & VI EWS

Inviting all readers, book clubs and ladies interested in the sub-ject to meet Elizabeth Hutton on December 12 at 5:00 PM at Old Kinderhook. Elizabeth is now a history teacher in Lebanon, MO, but was one of the three high school students who brought the story of Irena Sendler to light. We will discuss the book, Life in a Jar by Jack Mayer, which was inspired by the high school girls’ research project.

Irena Sandler organized a rescue network to save 2500 Jewish children from death in the Warsaw ghetto during WWII. The children were given false identities and placed in homes, or-phanages and convents. Sendler kept the only record of their true identities in jars buried in a friend’s garden, across the street from German barracks.

Let us know you are coming through Evite or by calling Sue Bleigh 913-707-5406. It should be a very informative evening.

The first Newbies Luncheon was held at 12:30 PM, Wed., Oct. 26th at JB Hook's Restaurant. We were so happy to see so many Newbies attending! There were 19 Newbies and 10 Board Members present. We could tell by the enthusiastic conver-sation that this bunch of New-bies fit right into the N/L Group. We are sort of known for our boisterous and fun activities.

We took time to talk to get to know each other. Mission ac-complished!! Each member gave a brief bio on the guest across the table from them. After everyone had spoken, we had learned quite a bit about each other, and our commonali-ties. By the end of the luncheon everyone was relaxed, laughing,

talking and joking! Many friends were made.

We will have another Newbie-Luncheon in the Spring for this group and for all new ladies that join between now and then. We sincerely believe that all the Newbies that were present at the luncheon enjoyed them-selves and feel enthused about being part of Newcom-ers-Longtimers .

bies Book Club, we will set up a time to meet and get started. If not, for those of you that would like to join a book club, please come to the Book Club Meeting on November 29. (Please See Article on Page 3.)

Each year we try to organize a book club comprised of new members that enjoy reading, discussing the books and socializing with new friends. For those of you who would be interested in partici-pating, please contact Alane Frankenfield at 636-346-8119. If there is enough interest in a New-

1) The first time you go to this web site, it will display a small form in the middle of the page to complete in order to join. It requires your name, email address, create a password and zip code.

2) After joining, it will ask you to choose a cause. Choose “search by name” and enter the name of Newcomers Longtimers.

Evite™ Response-The Basics

We still have a few ladies that are having trouble with Evite responses. Hopefully these tips will

help resolve some difficulties.

· Remember Cards and Games along with Luncheon RSVPs need to be received by the

preceding Sunday. If you RSVP “yes” to these and do not show up, you will be billed.

· Bridge and Canasta have separate Evites this year. Please only respond “yes” to the Evite

of the game you plan to play. Bridge especially needs to be able to know the exact number

of attendees to make even tables.

· Dining Out requires payment in advance by the date indicated in the Evite.

Below are listed the basic steps to a successful RSVP upon receiving an Evite email:

1) Click on “View Invitation”

2) Scroll down below the reply to see if any additional information is included by the

sender

3) Will you attend? Click “Yes” or “No”….please no “maybes”. If you are unsure, wait to re-

spond. If you are unable to attend, you can respond “no” or simply delete the Evite. We

need a response if you are coming. If you do not respond you will continue to get remind-

ers, which if not attending, you can also delete.

4) You must then click on “Reply”.

5) After your response you should see at the top of the screen “Thanks for your RSVP”.

6) You will receive an email confirming your RSVP within minutes if you have responded

properly.

7) If you go back to the Evite at a later date or upon reminder, you may need to click on “View

Message from Host”. It is located right under the main invitation to view the details.

If you have questions or are not receiving Evites, feel free to contact Sue Bleigh

([email protected]) 913-707-5406. We hope to see lots of “yes” responses coming in to all

events.
