North Central District Newsletter Dr. James R. King, Jr.-‐Resident Bishop September 2015 Dr. Rick Lanford – Superintendent __________________________________________________________________________________________
New President/CEO at Wesley Glen
Please join me in welcoming Mrs. Kathy McCollum as the new President/CEO for Wesley Glen Ministries. Kathy's educational background is decidedly United Methodist, after earning a bachelor's degree in mathematics and Christian education from LaGrange College and a master's degree in business administration from Wesleyan College. She is enrolled in the first cohort of LaGrange College's new master's program in philanthropy and development and expects to graduate in 2016. Prior to joining Wesley Glen, Kathy worked in the telecommunications industry for Southern Bell, BellSouth, and AT&T in Dublin, Atlanta, Rome, Augusta, and Macon. She started her career as an engineer and later managed various wire line network operations groups. Her final position was as Director of Construction for the state of Georgia.
Kathy and her husband David live in Macon where they are active members of Riverside UMC. They enjoy travel, college football, and opera. A native of Jones County, Kathy is the daughter of Charles and Faye Reese and grew up at Pitts Chapel UMC. Please open your Church doors and opportunities for Kathy to come and speak at one of your Local Church activities about the amazing ministry of Wesley Glen. Blessings,
Rick Dr. Rick Lanford

CHARGE CONFERENCES 2015
This fall our charge conferences will be held in special cluster conferences. This will not lessen the number of contacts I make with you or your SPRC committee, but it will save on mileage for the annual conference.
The Cluster Conferences for the North Central District will be held on these dates.
Cluster One: September 20. 4:00 PM Cluster Two: September 27, 4:00 PM
Cluster Three: October 4, 4:00 PM Cluster Four: October 11, 4:00 PM
Cluster Five: October 18, 4:00 PM Cluster Six: October 25, 4:00 PM
Cluster Seven: November 15, 4:00 PM Cluster Eight: November 22, 4:00 PM
Pastors, you have already been assigned a day and time to meet with me the week before the Cluster Conference. I am asking you to bring your completed charge conference report in hand to that meeting. Your Administrative Board or Administrative Council will need to have approved the Leadership Report and the Salary for 2016
If your SPRC needs to meet with me (I do not expect them to. This is not the time to talk about appointments, rather it is a time to reflect upon ministries) I will be glad to meet with them. I will be meeting with every one of our SPRC’s in January 2016.
If your Charge Conference is buying land, purchasing housing, voting on a building program, etc. I will hold a separate charge conference on the above issues in stand alone fashion, at your church either the week before or after the Cluster Conference. (This does not excuse you from your scheduled Cluster Conference). Your enthusiasm for these changes will be critical.
I know there will be questions, as we seek to administer our larger districts, but it is important that we do an excellent job in supervision and encouragement through our vital connection. God bless you and keep us in His service together is my prayer.

*Offers Fourth Tuesday’s Clergy Conversations
Realizing that pastors rarely have time to do much of anything besides proceed to the next urgent thing on the ever-growing list, Rev. Tim Hemingway invites pastors in the North Central District to take just a hour and a half each month to have conversations about real-life ministerial issues. These safe, supportive and informative conversations will include topics such as –
Growing my marriage and church Parenting 2015-style
Conflict in the congregation Finances personal and congregational
Being still in the hurricane Starting out/finishing up
Friends (and enemies?) in the church Goals and leadership
Healthy minds, hearts, bodies and souls Sexual issues – really? Listening as an art form
Losses, losses everywhere
There is no registration or cost, and pastors are free to come whey they can. Clergy Conversations will be at Crossroads Counseling Center beginning on January 27 from 10:30 to noon (and every fourth Tuesday after that). Please call or text Tim @ 478-258-8745 and let him know that you’re interested, so he can reserve an appropriate space. *Please note that this is not a requirement from the District Superintendent, but simply a very gracious invitation from The Family Place.
