Why Integrate Technology Into Curriculum?
The Reasons Are ManyBy Sarah Akers
Technology
Technology is found everywhere. In our homes and all over our communities.
Unfortunately, schools are lagging when it comes to using technology in the classroom.
A lot of teachers are just now learning how effective technology can be when used properly in the classroom for student learning.
When technology is used properly, it can help students acquire the skills to live in this highly complex technological society.
Integrating Technology
When integrating technology in a classroom, its more than teaching students how to use a computer, and computer software.
Effective integration happens within the curriculum, to help deepen and enhance the learning process.
Effective technology integration is achieved when the use of technology is routine, transparent and supports curricular goals.
4 Key Components of Learning
Active Engagement: The students and teacher both need to be engaged in the lesson
Participation in Groups: When doing group activities, its important all group members contribute equally
Frequent Interaction and Feedback: As the teacher, its important to be involved with the students, and make sure to give feedback on what they students need to do better. Don’t always just say “Good Job”
Connection to Real World Exponents: When teaching a lesson, especially with technology, its important to relate it to real world things to help the students understand better.
Technology and Projects
Learning through projects, with technology tools helps to allow the students to be intellectually challenged, while given them a realistic snapshot of modern life.
Using technology with projects, students can obtain and remove their information they have found on the internet.
By having technology, such as internet access, in the classroom, they can access more interesting, diverse and current learning materials.
Internet connects students to real world experts and provide numerous understandings through image, sound, and text
Technology and Science
With the new technology tools, students can visualize and model, especially in science, the ways to experiment and observe analysis’ and graphic results.
Through this, it benefits for the child and the teacher, because it helps keep the students more involved and engaged with the lesson they are learning.
Technology & Teachers
Technology can change the way teachers teach, by offering effective ways to reach out to different types of learners.
Help assess students understanding through multiple techniques.
Technology also enhances the relationship between teachers and students.
With teachers using technology in the classroom, it helps more meaningful and fun for the students.
