Foreword
We, the principal, the governing body and the staff members are indeed
pleased to submit a Re-accreditation report to the National Assessment and
Accreditation Council, Bangalore.
We are committed to impart quality education to our rural youth with
academic excellence. We have been trying our best to improve in various facets of
academics.
Indeed, It is an honor to get reaccredited and evaluated and in this endeavor we try to
enhance our curricular and co-curricular performance.
Keeping our vision and mission statement in view, we have been pursuing our
goals and objectives diligently, so as to rise to the expectations of our students and
help them to emerge as empowered youth.
Two of our science faculty members have completed their Ph.D. degrees and
one faculty members has registered for Ph.D., others are NET-SET qualified staff
members. The central library of the college is computerized. The list of books is
available on computers. Number of books is purchased, software regarding library
management has been installed, and extension counter is opened for the convenience
of the students.
To cater to the needs of the students from the surrounding areas, we have
embarked upon B. Sc.
This assessment has given us an opportunity to look back on our performance
during 2010-11 to 2011-2012. We will happily welcome the recommendations,
suggested by the Peer Team, to enable us to reach greater heights in field of Human
Resource Development.

EVALUATE REPORT OF THE DEPARTMENT
A) EXCECUTIVE SUMMARY
The selection of the students is done on the basis of merit in intermediate public
examination adhering strictly to the statutory reservations as per the guidelines of
Govt. of Maharashtra.
The teaching learning process of students coming from heterogeneous background is
always a challenge for the institution. This may include students with a quick grasping
power and slow learners as well. The science wing understands the needs of the
differently abled students and in order to enable them to participate equally in the
learning process. It provides books, concession in fees, separate counseling &
encourage them to take part in earn while learn scheme. The teachers follow their own
respective teaching plan based on a common academic calendar. To be at par with use
of innovative teaching methods like PPT presentation on LCD, models & charts, OHP
to make academic pursuit inaugurated on the campus. The wing encourage their
creativity, imagination skill and team work by organizing exhibition. The wing also
organizes soft skills programmes for the acquisition of life skills, knowledge
management skills. The students & faculty update their knowledge in the various
subjects by attending seminars, workshops and publishing articles in journals &
magazines. The teachers are selected as per the rules stated by the Govt. of
Maharashtra. The college has adequate number of qualified teachers to handle all the
courses. The management provides duty leave, UGC fellowship for Ph.d. some of the
teachers have received research grants for minor projects from the University of Pune.
The vice principal of the college (Science Wing) and the HOD Dr.V.A.Patil is PG
recognized teacher encourage the faculty and students. The provision for modern
laboratory in all the subjects. Two of the teachers have their research papers published
in referred journals. The institution works extensively to develop the local community
and also promotes the participation of students and faculty in various extension
activities such as NSS, AIDS awareness day and excursion tour.
The college provides financial aids to the financially weak and marginalized students
from the science wing by way of scholarship and freeship. The college has instituted

ii) Our institution being located in rural area, most of our students come
from nearby vicinity. Rural shyness is the feature of students at entry
level. It is catering to the needs of the rural youth. It even sees that the value and
tradition of the institute is kept intact. This is achieved by attending to the Micro-
problems of the students. Most of the students being first generation learners, their
family background is generally rural & illiterate. Our students are prepared to face
the challenges of modern world.

iii) The college also tries to pay adequate attention to the development of the
overall potential of the student community by providing value based education
and facilities of co-curricular and extra-curricular activities like Blood
Donation camp, Samarth Bharat Abhiyan. Student volunteers participate in
various activities conducted by Lonavla Police Station .Communal harmony is
maintained by the student volunteers during Ganesh Festival.
iv) The college has been taking special interest in the education of women.
The strength of women is 52.63% (grant and non-grant). Facilities are made

women harassment. & free tailoring, hobby and cookery classes for women

The academic programmes are in line with the institution’s goal and
objectives. The academic curricula are designed by the University as per the
direction given by the Board of Studies.
1) For Socially Disadvantaged Students:- The efforts are taken by the
institute to develop oral and written competencies of the students belonging to the
backward class ( SC/ST/NT/SBC/OBC) and weaker sections by arranging Soft
Skill course, English remedial course and Essay contest. Girl student from this
category are specially ,motivated to join free tailoring and hobby classes.
2) Equity ( Justice):- The students without prejudice against gender, class,
caste, religion and economic status are admitted to the academic programmes and
courses. Special care and access to the knowledge is provided to a large
number of students.
3) Self Development:- The teaching programmes are designed with an
objective to bring about self development in the students. Such programmes
include soft skills & N.S.S. students welfare activities and Earn while Learn
scheme.
4) Community and National Development:- Departments like extra mural,
N.S.S, Students Welfare, Women Empowerment programmes create awareness
regarding community and National development.
5) Ecology and Environment:- In order to create environmental awareness
among the students the college is implementing a compulsory course at Second
year level in both the faculties. Every year tree plantation is done in different areas.
Students living in the vicinity of the planted trees take care of these trees.
6) Value Orientation:- The courses run by the college help the students to
acquire knowledge , learn about human values, cultural heritage to develop a sense
of unity among the students through knowledge and religious vision. Guest
lectures for value education are also conducted. Various Programmes of N.S.S,
Adult continuation programme of UOP. Earn while Learn scheme to students.

Communication Technology (ICT) in the curriculum, for equipping the students

In the curriculum of B.Sc. use of Information and communication
Technology is included in theory, as well as in practical programmes. It helps
students compete in the global employment market. Modern ICT facilities like
latest computers, laptops, internet, LCD projector, OHP etc are provided by the
college. Projects , assignments are prepared by the students with ICT. Language
laboratory and computer laboratory play an important role in making students
compete with the global challenges.

Women Empowerment
The Micro Finance unit gives employment to more than 100 women. The
feed back they gave us is that due to place provided by the college, many
ladies can think of a bright future. They show much of enthusiasm &
active participation in whatever work is taken given to them. This unit is

The “Swayamsiddha” unit is the stitching class conducted in our college
in collaboration with TATA Power company. This unit gives free stitching
training to the girls students of our college & house wives in the town.
This unit helps them to be self sufficient & independent.
College Students Role in Community Service
Some of our students go to the NAB Lions Home. They help the visually
challenged ones by writing letters for them, cleaning the campus & solving
their problems.
During the monsoon, flood affected areas are to be shifted to other places for

generation and management, environmental values and ethics and students in

Yes, college has proper mechanism to seek and use data & feedback from
graduate student and employees. The college holds alumni meeting in college
premises twice in a year to be in touch with past students and to take their
inputs in the planning process.
College has the practice of conducting self appraisal from each student every
year. The principal and concerned staff member discusses the issue for further
development.
Students are provided feedback form; analysis of this form is done to improve
the teaching of concern teacher.

Keeping the afore mentioned mission in mind, the departments of our college

facilitating the college with financial and infrastructural backup to make the
transaction of the teaching learning process effective and productive.
The management ensures the recruitment of suitably qualified and efficient
faculty as per the norms issued by the U.G.C from time to time, and the state
Government and University of Pune. Management also provides help, support
and guidance in recruiting competent faculty members, promoting research
culture, maintenance and up gradation of infrastructure.
The members of the management committee keep good rapport with the
Principal, management interacts with the principal & staff at formal and
informal meetings to obtain feedback from the staff on issues concerning
teaching-learning process. Faculty and other staff of the college are also
severally in charge of various administrative, academic and development
activities. In case of any incongruity, management discusses the same at
length with the principal ,members of the internal Quality assurance Cell or
any other committee ,as the case may be ,& appropriate corrective measures
are initiated thereafter, so as to warrant an atmosphere that is conductive to the
effective functioning of the Institution in all its potential for growth.
For activities like seminars ,workshops, cultural activities, competition etc,
seminar halls , sports ground with other infrastructure and manpower
facilities are made available.
All the staff members have positive interaction with management committee
members .For Functions, Seminars and Competitions management
representatives guide/encourage all the staff members and students for better

The management was also generous in purchase of OH projector and
providing Internet facility .
Purchase of more number of standard text books and reference books, helped

The head of the institution conducts meeting of the staff council whenever
required, wherein the responsibilities of each department are communicated
and the discussion is carried out by the faculty to the utmost satisfaction of the
management and the principal. Each committee is under the charge of the
faculty and the head of the department conducts the meeting and formulate the
policies.
The functions of these committees and the responsibilities of the members are
well defined. The Operational Planning at the departmental level is fully
decentralized. Each member of the management is also assigned special role
in areas like academic activities, students welfare, finance, Informatics centre,
Library, Staff Welfare, Sports and Games construction and Development,
Health service etc.
These committees hold periodic meetings and special meetings in situations of
urgency.
With the help of these committees, the management and the Head of the
Institution ensure that responsibilities are defined and communicated to the
staff.
Within such a system any delegation of duty of initiation of programs becomes
easy and smooth.

The Principal of the college gets feedback from the students through students’
council meetings. It is properly organized as per University norms. Students
representing each class constitute the student council. Meetings are conducted
at regular basis and taking feedback from students is an important part of
meeting.

The management ascertains from Principal and Heads of the department
functioning of the institution based on certain parameters like proper conduct
of classes, handling of Add-on programmes by all the faculty members,
transaction of teaching –learning process to the best of satisfaction of the
students, the measures initiated by coordinators of various supporting systems
like Career Guidance and Placement Service, National Service Scheme,
Grievances Redressal Cell, Student Advisory Council etc.
The management also conducts meetings with the Principal and staff once a
semester and the measures to be initiated for further strengthening of the
academic fabric of the institution are discussed at length and necessary
measures are initiated immediately wherever necessary.
Through Local Managing Committee meetings, management acquires whatever
information that is needed.
Our college magazine Cascade reflects all activities of the college
6.1.5 How does the management encourage and support involvement of the staff
for improvement of the effectiveness and efficiency of the institutional processes?
The management is fully convinced that support and development of teachers
is the key for development of college. Hence many committees are formed.
The University Act also provide for formation of Local Managing Committee
(L.M.C.) in which teaching and non teaching staff is represented. The Local
Managing Committee is empowered with recommendation about financial
planning, budget preparation, academic activity planning,. Management is in
constant touch with the Principal.
The management recognizes the significant role that the teachers can play in
the Institutional process. Hence the numbers of the faculty are given proper
representation in the committees constituted for the over- all development of
the college and they are assigned with responsibilities and duties over than
that of teaching. All the staff members happen to be members of various
academic and administrative bodies & they act in unison whenever important
activities are to be undertaken. The committees of the college have active

role to play in the matters relating to the development processes, welfare
activities concerning staff and students, parent- teacher relationship and
extension activities. Every member of the faculty is assigned one duty
or the other apart from teaching. In all important decision, the opinion of the
staff members is taken by conducting staff council staff association and
departmental meetings.

The principal being the member of the Managing committee and the
administrative head, the principal has a vital role to play in the
governance and management of the Institution.
The principal functions as the chairman of the various administrative and
academic committees to co-coordinates and guides the organizational
functions through the staff council comprising Heads of various departments
who translate the plans into concrete action in close coordination with the
faculty. Action plans are prepared by taking in to consideration inputs from
the parents ,Alumni, Academic peers, Employees and students on a regular
basis.
He assigns duties and responsibilities to the head of these committees
who are usually Members of the Faculty and Motivates them to initiate
activities. With enthusiasm and team spirit.
Co-ordinates the academic activities of the institution carried out through
the staff council, the different departments, Staff Welfare Club and such
other committees .
Co-ordinates the administrative work of the offices of the college, gymkhana
and Library.
Briefs the Management on matters pertaining to the college administration,

He also passes on the decisions of the Management to the Faculty and
other staff of the college and administers their effective implementation .
Solicits the co-operation of P.T.A and the Alumni Associations in matters
of development, discipline, co-curricular and extra curricular activities
and financial and moral support. The college has a grievance cell to look after
smooth conduct of the branches of institution.
He also represents the college in the functions organized by the local
bodies, institution, voluntary organizations where the interests of the
academic community of the college are involved.
The principal being head of various departments also chair some of the
statutory bodies like Admission committee ,Research committee,
Infrastructure and Amenities committee, Academic Calendar /Magazine
committee, Internal curriculum, Development committee, Student Advisory
council and review the overall functioning of each committee and initiate
appropriate measures to enhance the quality of academic and administrative
fronts.

The Local Managing Committee comprises of Managing Committee
members, teaching and non teaching representatives from the College.
There are some committees of the college which are helpful in the college
development (Details of various Committees, their activities, meeting dates,
meeting details, decision taken in the last 2 years, etc., Pls. see annexure No.
For academic and administrative development Local Managing Committee is
formed every five years. The meetings of LMC are held at the beginning and
at the end of every term (Annexure)
The principal is the key person to provide leadership in academic and
administrative matters and is focused towards the overall growth and the
development of the college
Faculty recruitment is done as per the University Grants Commission and
norms, rules and regulations of University of Pune. Qualified staff is recruited
by giving advertisement, taking interviews by proper selection committee.

Management gives duty leave for research work. It also allows TA and DA for
attending seminars and paper presentations in other colleges and institutions.
Extension activities like NSS committee, Student’s council, Vidyarthini
Manch, Students welfare etc are routinely performed. There are separate
committees which take regular meeting as per their schedule and work.
Examination work is smoothly done by examination committees formed every
year with the help of the Principal and the administrative staff of the college.
UGC committees looks after the college development
There is anti-ragging committee in the college; principal is the Head of this
committee who looks after the discipline of the college. No case, till date, is
registered.

Decentralization:-
Administration is decentralized although principal is the head of the institution
is responsible for the functioning of college.
He performs activity like academic , curricular, extracurricular and extension
activities by performing committees of the teaching staff as well as member of
student council.
Head of the department is appointed for each subject and all the powers
regarding academic activities are delegated to them.
Student council comprises of all the activities where the representative of
students are nominated by the principal there is autonomy for teaching with
staff members.

Assurance Cell is constituted which meets regularly and discuss academic,
administrative and financial aspects of the institution.
The Principal, as head of the college, with the support of all faculty members
firmly believes in team work.
Through LMC all major and minor monitoring decisions are taken and
grievances are taken care of regularly.
The LMC collects data of the activities of all the departments of the
Administrative Block, Academic Department , Library, Computer Centers and
all other extra –Curricular departments.
The data gathered by the LMC is analyzed and necessary steps are taken to
ensure effective and qualitative improvement in the academic process.
The administrative and academic bodies meet time to time for monitoring and
evaluating activities. Appropriate decision are taken by the committees
concerned.
Various activity committees do help in this regard. One representative of the
teaching faculty is on management committee. In these meetings matters
relating to finance, academics and development are discussed, future
projections are formulated and progress is reviewed and evaluated.

Yes.
It is through the Grievance Redressal cell with the principal as President ,that
the welfare activities are co-ordinated and grievances heard.

,leave, retirement, important personal matters etc.
It responds in a very compassionate manner contributing substantial amount to

Women’s development cell organizes several programmes on gender issues.
No incidence of harassment has been brought before Women Development
Cell.
The cell meets whenever necessary and initiate necessary steps of the
employees.

The Management meets the staff twice in a year for academic and
administrative developments. Management representative, the principal,
representatives of teaching and nonteaching staff comprises the LMC. This is
where Management members regularly and formally meet the representatives
of the staff. The meeting of LMC are held at the beginning and at the end of
every term. Additional meetings are held as and when necessary.
Besides these formal meetings, members of the management meet the college
staff on various academic and social occasions like the Annual Social
Gathering of all Employees, Seminars, Sports Day, Tree Plantation, Prize
distribution function, annual social gathering of the college, etc.

The college has a Women’s cell to prevent the sexual harassment of women

It functions to keep the college well-organized and disciplined by keeping a strict
vigil over the students. It is necessary for the students of belonging to our college to
put their I-Cards as long as they remain on campus, park their vehicles only in the
parking space provided and outsiders are strictly prohibited from entering.
b) Admission Committee
The committee is appointed at the end of the year, to discuss for about the admission
policy to pursued for the next year and again the next year to implement the plans
decided. It also ensures a transparent admission procedure is followed, so as to
provide a fair chance to all the decisions candidates seeking admission.
c) Cultural Committee
It takes care of all the socio-cultural activities held in the college – such as celebration
of all national festivals, anniversary of national leaders and freedom fighters etc. it
maintains a record of all the academic, curricular and co-curricular activities and
prepares the annual report to be submitted to the institute.

The committee encourages students of our college to participate in various sports and
tram events at Inter-collegiate, state and national level. It increases their participation
by sponsoring their traveling and other expenses.

This committee functions to ensure a smooth conduct of all examinations-both
internal and university exams. It maintains all the relevant data related to the
examination such as number of students, dates of exam form filling and declaration of

It ensures that the books in the library are regularly updated and the students make
best use of the library to excel in their academic performance.
g) NSS Committee
The National Service Scheme Unit of the college functions throughout the year. This
unit is aware of their commitment to the society. The activities like Blood Donation
Camps, Awareness rallies regarding aids, generation relief fund to face natural
calamities, maintenance of social discipline during Ganesh festival etc. are performed.
Many pragrammes are organized on the occasion of International Women’s Day,
N.S.S. day, Independence day, Republic Day etc. The N.S.S. unit creates awareness

In order to keep the environment healthy and encouraging, optimistic this cell

To keep the student’s welfare a prime concern is a mandate of the committee. This is
does through conducting and organizing various programmes like-soft skills
development programme, NSS, Social Awareness programmes etc to benefit the

and administrative activities. It maintains a record of the faculties performance and
provides instructions and guidelines regarding the same.
l) Women Empowerment Cell
This cell makes sure to organize various activities, programmes to promote a healthy
academic atmosphere on the campus. The cell functions to prevent harassment of the
female students. The female students are encouraged, guided and counseled through
this cell. The programmes like “Nirbhay Kanya Abhiyan, Awareness regarding
Women’s rights, lectures on career opportunities etc. this cell conducts tailoring class
for female students to prepare them for getting financial stability after the completion
of their courses.

We appoint the teachers and non teaching staff according to the rules and
regulation of Govt of Maharashtra.

We are aware of the fact that most of our students come from underprivileged
background, and the female students are worst sufferers. So we preferably
admit our female students to various courses available. We encourage them by
providing uniforms, books etc. we run sewing class for female students.

The Maval region is a complete hilly area. so we adjust our timetable
accordingly because they come from remote areas.
We prefer to send our tribal students for various activities organized by N.S.S.
University of Pune and other colleges.
We organize guest lectures for girl students for preparation of competitive
examination.

We maintain result record, which categorize the various social classes of the
students.

Our students are sent to help the police department to maintain law and order
in Lonavla during Ganesh Festival, Monsoon season,(the students regularize

N.S.S. Organizes its special in tribal area to reach to community. it conducts
various programmes like water soil analysis Environmental awareness.

New programmes are initiated through fruitful interaction among all the

The natural location of the college, establishment well equipped laboratories,
well maintained library, emphasizes and encouragement for organization of

which proves to be conducive to learning.

Conducive environment, location of the college, well qualified and
experienced teaching staff attracts the students.

Mr. Vishwasrao process access to TATA dam ,students learn about various
plants. Our former students help in many extension activities tie-ups with
other educational institution, we organize sessions on use of Yoga in personal
life for students and teachers.
Even our professors are cautious about spiritual development of teachers and
students.
Prof Bachhav has completed a course on vipashana: The teacher’s psychology
department helps the students and teachers develop them spiritually.
The psychology department teachers provide counseling to tall students in
times of this difficulty
Yoga practices and lectures are organized every year with the help of
Kaivalyadhama Yoga Institute.

Environmental awareness is a compulsory subject at second year level,
students are motivated to undertake project work related to public concerns.
We anticipate public concerns by surveying the needs of the community
around Lonavla through N.S.S. we undertake such activities.
Our college has formed the disaster management group, we are planning to
conduct special training programme for the students
In view to develop ICT cultural, special computer training programme are
planned.

N.S.S. focuses on many activities regarding good citizenship.
Aids awareness rally, funds collection for flood affected are organized by
students.
We provide our help to Lonavla Police in many social gatherings and festivals.
The students are taught social responsibilities through overall atmosphere.
The Forest ministry has recognized our efforts and awarded our Principal and
Teachers.
The soft skill development programme for the final year students is effective
for overall personality of students.

We organize legal aid camp for the citizens of Valvan , Lonavla.
Most of co-curricular & extra curricular activities organized are community

Samarth Bharat Programme aims at the same object.

We determine the areas to be focused through their social , economical,

NSS volunteers hold camp in villages near Lonavla during their camps such
surveys are conducted.

on various health related issues etc.
Our students visit orphanages sanatoriums, ageing homes, blind homes and
extended their helping hand.
The students, teachers help the citizens of Lonavla whenever flood create
