‘Round the Island in 80 Years’ ExhibitionThe ‘Round the Island in 80 Years’ Exhibition provides a visual feast of imagery brought together to celebrate 80 years of this remarkable Race.As well as featuring the images and stories of sporting, political and sailing legends who have competed in the Race, the Exhibition maintains the Race ethos ‘A Race for all’, by showcasing the memories and pictures of the everyday sailors who make this Race so unique.The Exhibition is on display in the Cowes Yacht Haven Event Centre throughout the Race weekend (24-26 June). Exhibition images are available for purchase, with proceeds being donated to the Official Race Charity, the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust.For a chance to win a unique framed photo from the ‘Round the Island in 80 Years’ Exhibition, complete an entry form, available on the race website and drop it in at the Exhibition on the 24th or 25th June. The photo will be signed by Britain’s legendary sailors Dame Ellen MacArthur and Ben Ainslie and has been valued at £500.
schools competitionAn exciting Round the Island Race colouring competition has been produced for all school students aged 4-13 years old. The winning student will get a £75 WHSmith voucher and their school will receive a visit from triple Olympic gold medallist sailor Ben Ainslie, CBE. You can download a competition entry form from the race website. Entrants should take their picture down to the ‘Round the Island in 80 Years’ Exhibition located in Cowes Yacht Haven on the 24th or 25th June. The competition will be judged at Race Village, by Ben Ainslie at 5pm on Saturday 25 June.

the official race charity The Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust is the official Race Charity of the 2011 and 2012 Races. Help the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust get six boats and 30 crew members virtually Round the Island through their new ‘Buy a Mile’ fundraising initiative. Every mile purchased will move the virtual yacht forward one mile and miles can be bought at different values from £10-£50. With £31,500 worth of miles to be bought, the race is on! To ‘Buy a Mile’ go to http://buyamile.ellenmacarthurtrust.org “It’s fantastic to be able to offer 30 young people in recovery from cancer the inspirational experience of competing with up to 16,000 other sailors in Britain’s biggest one day sailing event. COWES Start 0600-0740 Via Ward Ave., Baring Road & Castle Hill to the Parade and the Green either side of the Royal Yacht Squadron.
SCONCE POINT 0730-1000 From Yarmouth, drive towards Freshwater. Turn right after 1/2 mile and follow signs to Fort Victoria.
THE NEEDLES 0800-1030 From Freshwater or Totland follow signs to the Needles Car Park. Park and walk up West High Down to Needles Battery. Best view to south of Coast Guard Station.
CHILTON CHINE 0800-1030 From Freshwater or Totland follow signs to the Needles Car Park. Park and walk up West High Down to Needles Battery. Best view to south of Coast Guard Station.
ST. CATHERINE’S POINT 0930-1330 From Freshwater, Rookley or Ventnor go to Niton. Take loop road to Buddle Inn. Park and walk down cliff s by lighthouse.
VENTNOR 0945-1400 Park on Cliff at West End of Esplanade.
BONCHURCH 1000-1430 Take lane down to sea opposite Bonchurch pond. Take left turn and park in car park at bottom, which is best view.
CULVER DOWN 1030-1600 From Brading, take Bembridge road. After 1 mile, turn right and follow sign for Culver (on a bend, and lane hairpins up!)
RYDE PIER 1130-1730 From Ryde Esplanade, drive up pier and park at end. Parking for 1 hour.
COWES Finish 1000-2200 Via Ward Ave., Baring Road & Castle Hill to the Parade and the Green either side of the Royal Yacht Squadron.

HURST POINT 0730-1030 From Lymington drive to Milford on Sea, take road to Keyhaven, but turn right towards Hurst beach after half a mile. Park at end and walk up Hurst Spit to Hurst Castle.
GILKICKER POINT 1130-1730 From Gosport drive through Alverstoke towards golf course. Take road through golf course to Gilkicker Point and Fort.

the course The J.P. Morgan Asset Management Round the Island Race course really couldn’t really be much simpler!The boats cross the start line at Cowes in eleven separate groups, starting every 10 minutes from 0600 until 0740 and heading in a westerly direction towards Yarmouth. The boats pass round the Needles Lighthouse, along the south-west coast of the Island to St. Catherine’s Point and then up across Sandown Bay to round the Bembridge Ledge Buoy. The fl eet then makes its way either side of No Man’s Land Fort and across Osborne Bay to the fi nish line back at Cowes.
