Checklist of BIRDS of the Audubon Center in GreenwichThe mission of Audubon Greenwich is to motivate peopleto conserve, restore, and enjoy nature, focusing on birds, other wildlife and their habitats, through education, landstewardship, science, and public policy advocacy. Since1941, thousands of enthusiastic birders have searched theCenter’s fields, meadows, forests, and wetlands for birdsand have diligently recorded over 200 species of birds.
This checklist contains the result of their efforts. It describes the seasonal abundance of species that havebeen reliably noted at the Center. Space is provided forrecording the number of each species found and generaltrip information. Species that are extremely rare are listedas ‘accidental.’
Visitors are urged to check a field guide in order to assurethe accurate identification of birds encountered. Pleaseadvise a Center naturalist when a rare species is observedso that its identification can be corroborated. Writtenfield notes of unusual sightings with sketches or drawingsare useful for later review. Information about recentsightings, field guides, bird hikes, and help for novicesare available at the Center’s Nature Store.
