Offered at Temple Solel for over 5 years, Rosh Chodesh (new month) has deeply affected past participants. They have shared with us that they now have a safe place to talk about their concerns, have fun, be ‘real’ with their peers and receive guidance from a caring Jewish leader.

SANDWICH SUNDAYS Meet other families in your child’s class while doing a mitzvah! Join us as we provide sandwiches and pack sack lunch for the hungry, participate in mixers, and have fun on the playground or gaga court. Siblings are welcome. By Grade Level. Dates TBD.

11TH & 12TH GRADE HARTMAN LEADERSHIP PROGRAMBimonthly classes, Wednesdays 4:30-6:30pm (October-May)With Rabbi Wright, Rabbi Frank and Cantor TiepBuild your college resume through social action, earn community service hours and learn leadership skills. Travel to Georgia and Alabama to learn about the Civil Rights

Movement (December 17-20, 2015) and to Washington DC to participate in the Religious Action Center’s L’Taken program (December 2016). Collaborate on a unique social justice program with students from our sister community in Sh’ar HaNegev, Israel and help to co-lead the annual Temple Solel Religious School retreat. Youth GroupsTemple Solel’s Youth Program is nationally recognized and offers diverse programming for our youth and teens. Our programs set out to create a youth community where each person is valued, cared about, and connected while living and celebrating the best of our Reform Jewish ideals. We are part of the URJ’s Southern California NFTY (National Federation of Teen Youth) and participate in both regional and national events. OLIM (grades 9-12) is our NFTY affiliated temple youth group that is led by a ten-person board of high school students elected by their peers. Olim activities take place once a month usually on Saturday night. Olim creates events that take place both at Temple Solel as well as off site. Dates TBD.

THE TIKKUN PROJECT (grades 7-12) is our social action youth program. Also led by a peer elected board, the Tikkun project is committed to bringing the youth together in fun and meaningful activities and programs that will strengthen their Jewish identity, friendships, and help transform our community and world through mitzvot. Dates TBD.

THE TEEN SHABBAT JAM (grades 9-12) is a monthly Friday night Shabbat service that is led by our teen band Kavannah. This service attracts between 50- 70 and is a Shabbat celebration filled with lively music, meditation, and meaningful dialogue that speak to the teen experience. After the service the teens go to a local restaurant for some late night food and shmoozing. Dates TBD.

NESHAMA NOSH (grades 9-12 is a spiritual discussion that takes place on Friday afternoons. The discussion places heavy emphasis on how Jewish wisdom and philosophy can make a meaningful impact on the everyday lives.

Solel ProgramsINTRODUCTION TO JUDAISMWITH RABBI WRIGHTBegins Wednesday,October 76:30-8:00pm | A course for anyone interested in exploring Judaism – Interfaith couples, those considering conversion and Jews-by-birth seeking a refresher course in principles and practices of Judaism. Offered through the URJ (Union for Reform Judaism).

Tuition: $200 member / $280 non-member. A non-refundable $50 registration fee is included. The tuition fee allows for either one or two people to attend, and we encourage couples to attend together. STUDY WITH RABBI FRANKSunday, October 119:15am | Enrich your knowledge and sense of community as we learn from each other and grow together in a supportive Jewish setting. There is no fee for the program, but RSVP’s are requested in order to plan for breakfast. Donations gratefully accepted.

Tikkun Olam Yearly Projects

OLIM HIGH HOLY DAY FOOD DRIVEAnnual food drive begins on Rosh Hashanah. Our youth group members will distribute empty shopping bags after services. Please fill the bags with canned goods and non-perishable food items and return it to us on Yom Kippur. Last year we donated over 8000 pounds of food to stock the Jewish Family Services Hand Up Food Pantry and the Encinitas Community Resource Center.

STARS & STRIPES COMMITTEE SPONSORED BACK TO SCHOOL DRIVE Now through September 21For many families in the military purchasing the basic school supplies is a true hardship. We have targeted San Onofre Elementary School, which proudly serves the military community on Camp Pendleton to donate the school supplies. Please consider shopping for additional supplies. Supplies needed: Backpacks, #2 pencils, colored pencils, pens, highlighters, pink erasers, crayons, washable markers, glue sticks, rulers, construction paper, loose notebook paper & spiral notebooks (not college ruled), index cards, composition books and pocket folders. A red bin will be located in the Temple main office to place your supplies.

STARS AND STRIPES COMMITTEE BUSINESS/DRESS CLOTHING DRIVEVeterans and Service Members Through November Stars and Stripes has entered into a joint effort with the Veteran’s Association of North County to provide appropriate business/dress clothing to military personnel and veterans who are preparing for a civilian job hunt. Bring in your clean, “gently” used or new clothing (on a hanger) to Temple Solel in November. For men: dress suits, slacks, shirts ties; for women: business suits with skirts or slacks, dress blouses – any size or length. THANKSGIVING BASKET DRIVE Through November 15A wonderful way for Temple Solel families to help homebound seniors for the Thanksgiving holiday – donate a dinner! Collaborate with your friends & family to help with this important cause. Baskets will be collected November 15 and delivered to Jewish Family Services for homebound seniors in the area. Tikkun Olam On-Going Project

BUNDLES FOR BABIESWe are collecting new or gently used clothing and other items for a baby’s first year. These items will go to mothers in need, identified through the San Diego Ronald McDonald House. Please drop off your donation in the red bins located in the preschool and temple offices. Items needed: Sleepers, blankets, hats, socks, clothes, baby books. Items are lovingly boxed and delivered to local hospitals. Clothing must be clean and in good condition. HINEYNU CARING COMMUNITY: WE ARE HEREA network of Temple Solel members designed for in-reach to families in need. Hineynu encourages participation in fulfilling the mitzvah of Gemilut Chasidim—acts of lovingkindness; visiting the sick, consoling the bereaved, and welcoming the stranger. Hineynu responds to the emotional and special needs of our congregation by providing meals, transportation and sending Simcha cards to families on joyous occasions. INTERFAITH SHELTER December 20 – January 2The Interfaith Winter Shelter is a community based-effort enabling member congregation’s to provide cold-weather shelter and hospitality on a rotating basis to persons who are homeless in the coastal San Diego community.Temple Solel is proud to host the shelter for the 23rd year. Opportunities available to provide dinner and/or spend the night at Temple Solel fill up quickly. In

addition we need to provide warm blankets, standard pillows, twin sheet sets, towel sets, toiletries, non-perishable food, & paper goods. Target or Wal-Mart gift cards in $25 increments are needed to give to our guests as a holiday gift. YAHRZEIT PLAQUESYahrzeit wall plaques are permanent plaques that are lit on the Shabbat closest to the Hebrew anniversary of your loved one’s date of death. A donation of $450 for members and $650 for non-members is required for each plaque. Yahrzeit wall plaques can be ordered by written request at any time and will be installed according to the date received.

TREE OF LIFE LEAVESA Tree of Life leaf can be ordered to commemorate any person or occasion. Leaves will be added to the Tree of Life in the Social Hall when contributions of $250 for a small leaf or $300 for a large leaf are made.

GARDEN OF GIVING“Just as you came and found trees planted by others, so you must plant for your children”

From this central message, a circular pathway of granite tiles and pavers inscribed with the names of our children, families and loved ones permanently reside. The center of our garden features a circular arc vibrating out to its core edges—signifying “Solel” and our pathway to Torah and holiness.
