+Common App – What Else?

Important: the Common App is found at www.CommonApp.org - not .com.

The Common App is 100 percent electronic. At Shorecrest, students use their Naviance account to send transcripts and letters of recommendation sent to Common App schools.

Also important: When creating an account, write down your username and password in not just one - but in TWO safe places. Losing or forgetting this information is painful and time-wasting!

Students may start - and save - their progress on the Common App. It does not need to be completed in one sitting. It might take a few hours.

+Common App – Even More

To complete the Common App, students must upload their personal statement/college admissions essay. Prompts are provided.

If using Shoreline-issued iPads to complete Common App registration, please use Firefox as the browser; it appears to be more successful than Safari.

Page 14: + Seniors: Class of 2015 Sept. 24, 2014 Personal Statement Planning & Preparation.

+Common App Prompts 1) Some students have a background or story that is so

central to their identity that they believe their application would be incomplete without it. If this sounds like you, then please share your story.

2) Recount an incident or time when you experienced failure. How did it affect you, and what lessons did you learn?

3) Reflect on a time when you challenged a belief or idea. What prompted you to act? Would you make the same decision again?

4) Describe a place or environment where you are perfectly content. What do you do or experience there, and why is it meaningful to you?

5) Discuss an accomplishment or event, formal or informal, that marked your transition from childhood to adulthood within your culture, community, or family.
