PRIMARY DATA Primary Data means original Data that has been collected specially for the purpose in mind.
This type of Data are generally afresh and collected for the first time.
It is useful for current studies as well as for future studies.
For example:- Your own questionnaire.
SECONDARY DATASecondary data is data that has been collected for another purpose.
It involves less cost, time and effort
Secondary Data is data that is being reused. Usually in a different context.
For example:-Data from book
sources

Sales records Marketing Activity Cost Information Distributor Report and Feed back Customer Feed back
External Sources:-
External Sources of Secondary Data are usually for financial application.
Journals Books Magazines Newspaper Libraries The Internet
Advantages The main advantage of using secondary data sources is that
they already exist; therefore, the time spent on the study is considerably less.
In many cases, the secondary data may be less expensive than the primary data.
If the source of the data collected is reliable, such data can avoid the errors that otherwise could creep in while collecting primary data.
Such data may allow the researcher to cover a wider geographic, cross-sectional range.
Disadvantage The disadvantages of using secondary data are related to the fact that their selection and quality, and the methods of their collection, are not under the control of the researcher.
The accuracy of secondary data is most of the time questionable as the researcher is unaware about the pattern of data collection.
The researcher may try to use the secondary data that are developed for some other purpose in some other time frame in some other circumstances.
