Dear Illustrious Badger Friends,We are headed into an exciting year full of opportunities. We ended 2019 by joining 500 B Corps in

announcing our commitment to reach net zero total carbon emissions by 2030, and as the first step

towards this goal we partnered with a fellow B Corp, Revision Energy, to transition Badger manufacturing

to solar in 2020. We continue to further our commitment to regenerative agriculture through our onsite

work and through developing a road map for our supply network to join us in these efforts. Outside

of Badger HQ, we continue to see sunscreen trending in global news. The FDA’s recent study on the

rapid absorption of common sunscreen chemicals, coupled with continued human and environmental

health concerns, has led to a rising demand for mineral sunscreens. In light of this, we are committed to

providing you with the knowledge to make safe sunscreen choices in the year ahead. Badger is proud to be

Protecting Our Coral ReefsBetween 6,000 and 14,000 tons of sunscreen washes off swimmers, scuba divers, and snorkelers into coral reef environments each year. Common sun-screen ingredients, including oxybenzone and octinoxate, have been shown to kill or bleach coral at extremely low concentrations (as little as one drop in 6.5 Olympic sized swimming pools). Because of this, up to 10% of the world’s coral reefs may be threatened by these sunscreen chemicals.

Reef safety has been in the news, and as places such as Hawaii, Key West, and Palau ban sunscreens containing ingredients that harm coral, more and more people are looking for products that are safe for both themselves and coral reefs.

Badger sunscreens are reef friendly and tested biodegradable – the safest choice for people and the planet.

Here’s how to tell if a sunscreen is safe for coral reefs:

• Read Your Sunscreen Label While many products are labeled “Reef Safe” and “Reef Friendly,” these claims are unregulated. We recommend that you read the ingredients and judge for yourself.

• Choose Mineral Look for a sunscreen with only mineral active ingredi-ents such as zinc oxide or titanium dioxide, since these are the only active sunscreen ingredients generally recognized as safe by the FDA and often required when visiting sensitive marine environments.

• Skip the Chemicals Avoid oxybenzone and octinoxate and other ingredients that may harm coral.

• Use a Water-Resistant Sunscreen It will be more likely to stay on your skin instead of washing off in the water.

• Look for Biodegradable Sunscreens They have been tested to ensure that the product will break down in marine environments.

Badger Goes Solar!We’re partnering with fellow B Corp ReVision Energy to install a 1,445-panel (524-kilowatt) roof-and ground-mounted solar array this year at Badger that will generate over 600,000 kWh of clean electricity annually, making it one of the largest solar arrays in the region. The 636,000 pounds of annual carbon pollution reduction is equivalent to taking 61 passenger cars off the road or planting 338 acres of forest.

Family-Friendly WorkplaceOur Babies-At-Work program started in 2008 and we have welcomed over 18 babies to date! The program allows parents to bring their infants to work for the first six months. In 2013, we added Calendula Garden Children’s Center. Originally designed to offer subsidized childcare for employees with children ages 6 months to 3 years, it now also serves the community and has cared for over 50 children since opening.

Free Organic Lunches Build Community The Badger lunch program started with Badger Bill cooking soup for 10 employees once a week and has grown to serve nutritious, organic food to over 100 people each day. This program allows us to support our local and organic farmers and provide a place for employees to connect and build community with each other.

Employee Engagement - An Open ConversationOur commitment to transparency and engagement starts with our employees. Through weekly department meetings, monthly all-company meetings, and annu-al company retreats we regularly connect with each employee and create an open conversation designed to hear feedback and share management decisions. We also create space to learn new things and to just have fun with each other!

Recovery-Friendly WorkplaceIn 2018, we continued the work of building a recovery-friendly workplace by offer-ing a series of additional training opportunities for our staff. Employees were able to learn about administering Naloxone, had the opportunity to attend a training on addiction prevention, and got the chance to walk through a mock bedroom and see the signs of early substance use.
