PROSPECTUS FOR POST GRADUATE AYURVEDA EDUCATION
OF GOPABANDHU AYURVEDA MAHAVIDYALAYA, PURI
&
GOVT. AYURVED COLLEGE, BOLANGIR
1. GENERL INFORMATION :
i) Gopabandhu Ayurveda Mahavidyalaya, Puri one of the oldest premier Ayurveda colleges
of eastern India was established by Govt. of Odisha in the year 1949 vide Govt. Order
No.- 343 dated 7th May 1949 to impart teaching and training for producing Ayurvedic
physician and to serve as a model institution for extending scientific out look to the
knowledge of Ayurvedic system of medicines.
ii) The college is affiliated to Utkal University and follows the syllabus and curriculum
prescribed by the Central Council of Indian Medicine both for undergraduate and post
graduate courses as approved by the Utkal University.
iii) In order to introduce P.G. courses, the Kayachikitsa Department of college has been
upgraded since the year 1977-78, by the State Govt. The Department of Shalya-Shalakya,
Prasutitantra-Streeroga and Kaumarbhritya have been upgraded from the session 1997-
98. State Govt. has accorded sanction for introduction of P.G. courses in the subject
Rasashastra & Bhaisajya Kalpana from the session 2001-2002 vide G.O. No.- 26202/H,
dated 12th July 2001.
iv) Govt. Ayurved college, Bolangir was established in the year 05.05.1975 & was taken
over by Govt. of Odisha in the year 01.07.1984 vide Govt. order No. 22958/H, dt.
30.04.1984. The college is affiliated to Sambalpur University, Jyoti Vihar, Burla.
The college have obtained permission for P.G. course in the dept. of Roga Nidan
& Vikrit Vigyan from the session 2016-17 vide Ministry of AYUSH, Govt. of India, New
Delhi order No. R-14011/19/2015-EP(IM-I), dt. 11.11.2016 & in the Deptt. of Samhita
Siddhanta from the session 2018-19 vide Ministry of AYUSH, Govt. of India, New Delhi
order No. R-17011/170/2018-EP(IM-I), dt. 04.09.2018.

3. AIM AND OBJECTS :
The aims of the post-graduate degree courses shall be to provide orientation of specialities and
super-specialties of Ayurveda and to produce experts and specialists who can be the competent and
efficient teachers, physicians, surgeons, obstetricians and gynecologists (Stri Roga & Prasuti tantra),
pharmaceutical experts & Ayurveda Pathology researchers and profound scholars in various fields of
specialization of Ayurveda.
4. ADMINISTRATION & MANAGEMENT :
The internal administration and management relating to post graduate courses, in Gopabandhu
Ayurveda Mahavidyalaya, Puri & Govt. Ayurved College, Bolangir shall be vested with the Principals of
concerned Colleges under general control of the Director, AYUSH, Health & F.W. Dept. Govt. of Odisha,
Bhubaneswar.
5. SESSION :
The session of each academic year commences from July otherwise notified. Admission to P.G.
course will be made once a year. No student will be admitted into the P.G. course beyond the cut-off date,
fixed by the Ministry of AYUSH, Govt. of India, New Delhi.
6. MODE OF ADMISSION :-
i) A person possessing the degree in Ayurved from an University or Board or medical
institution specified in the second schedule to the Act shall be eligible for admission
in the post-graduate degree course.
ii) The selection of the candidates for admission to the M.D/M.S(Ay) course will be
made through All India AYUSH Post Graduate Entrance Test (AIAPGET) an all
India Ranking examination organized by All India Institute of Ayurveda, New Delhi
on behalf of Ministry of AYUSH, Govt. of India.
iii) The State Govt. will notify in Newspapers / Websites to invite Application from
interested candidates after declaration of the result of AIAPGET – 2018 from the
qualified candidates for admission into M.D/M.S(Ay) course .
iv) AIAPGET – 2018 merit holder candidates will apply for counseling and admission to
the M.D/M.S(Ay) course if eligible based on the applicable rules, regulations,
reservation policy and other criteria specified by the Govt. of Odisha.
v) The admission committee will prepare its own merit list of the candidates
considering the AIAPGET – 2018 merit list and based on the existing rules,
regulations, reservation policy and other criteria.
vi) Counseling will be conducted by the admission committee based on the applicable
rules, regulations, reservation policy and other criteria specified by the Govt. of
Odisha.
vii) The admission committee will offer admission to the meritorious candidates to the
P.G Ayurvedic colleges based on counseling.

viii) If after first round of counseling and admission, any seat remains vacant, the seats
will be filled up through subsequent round of counseling from among all rank
holders in the AIAPGET-2018.
ix) In case of equal marks obtained by the candidates in the AIAPGET, the inter-se-
merit shall be determined on the basis of total marks obtained by the candidate in the
final B.A.M.S. Exam. in first attempt. In case of further tie the decision of the P.G.
admission committee shall be final.
x) The benefit of additional weightage of marks to the extend of 05% in the qualifying
examination will be extended to in-service candidates only, who have rendered
minimum 03 years of service in the tribal/backward areas as notified by Govt. Order
No. 22839/H, dated 01/07/1998 of H & F.W. Dept Govt. of Odisha.
xi) Change of subject shall be permissible within a period of two months from the date
of admission, subject to availability of vacancy and guide in the concerned
Department on the basis of merit.
7. PERIOD OF STUDY AND ATTENDANCE :
i. The students shall have to undergo a study for a period of three years from the date of
admission, out of which first year shall be devoted to preliminary course and subsequent
two years for concerned speciality course.
ii. The student shall have to attend at least seventy-five percentage of total lectures,
practical and clinical/tutorials classes to become eligible for appearing in the
University Examinations.
iii. The student shall have to attend the hospital and other duties as may be assigned to them
during the course of study.
iv. The student shall have to do house job duties and clinical register’s duties in their
respective departments during the courses.
v. The student shall have to attend special lectures, demonstrations; seminars, study tours
and such other activities as may be arranged by the departments.
8. RESERVATION OF SEATS :
(A) Gopabandhu Ayurveda Mahavidyalaya, Puri :-
i. 23% of Seats shall be reserved for S.T., S.C. & P.H. (Locomotor disabilities only)
candidates. Out of these, 12% for S.T., 8% for S.C. & 3% for P.H. (Locomotor
disabilities only) candidates. In case of non-availability of eligible S.T. Candidates, the
seats shall be filled up by the eligible S.C. candidates & Vice versa. Out of these, 3% of
seats shall be filled up by the eligible P.H. (Locomotor disabilities only) candidates. In
case of non-availability of eligible S.T., S.C. & P.H. Candidates the same shall be filled
up by the eligible General candidates from the merit list.
ii. The Committee decides to keep one (01) seat for MD course reserved for ICCR
sponsored foreign national in the discipline of Kayachikitsa. As per Govt. Order No.-
24583/H, dtd.18.09.2014, in case the seat earmarked for the foreign national is not filled
up by the due date, the reserved seat will be filled up by the candidate from the open
merit list.
iii. To achieve percentage of representation in P.G. Admission for S.T., S.C. & P.H.
(Locomotor disabilities) a period of 5 years shall be taken as one Block Period. The
Block Period shall cover the years 2015-16 to 2019-20.

Total no of seats in five years (One Block Period) is 75, out of which 01(one) seat each for all 5 years
shall be reserved for ICCR sponsored foreign National. Out of remaining 70 seats, 01(One) seat each for
all 5 years were reserved for Govt. of India nominee in the reservation matrix for the 5 years block period.
However, Govt. of India has not kept any reservation for their nominee for the year 2017-18. Hence, the
remaining seats in the reservation matrix comes to 66.So, the remaining 66 seats have distributed in the
following matrix keeping reservation of 12% for ST, 8% for SC and 3% for PH (Locomotor disabilities).

(B) Government Ayurveda College, Balangir :-

& Vikriti Vigyan and total number of seats available for the 3 year block period is 12 in
the subject Ayurveda Samhita & Siddhanta and accordingly the reservation matrix is as

Out of total 32 (20 +12) seats reservation of 12% for S.T,8% for S.C and 3% for
PH(Locomotor disabilities) has been earmarked. Anomaly if any between S.C. & S.T.
may be adjusted in the next block period. If out of State students will not be available, the
same seats shall be filled up from the students of the State.

NOTES : S.T. & S.C. persons, who have been migrated from other state to Odisha for the
purpose of education & employment etc. will not be treated as S.T. & S.C. candidates of
the state as per Order No.- BC-16014/1/84 scheduled cast B.C.D. dated 22.02.1985 of
Govt. of India.
ADMISSION COMMITTEE:

9. METHOD OF TRAINING
i. Intensive training shall be provided in classical knowledge along with comparative and
critical study in the respective specialty.
ii. The emphasis shall be given on intensive applied and hand on training.
iii. The students shall have to acquire the knowledge about the methods and techniques of
research in the respective fields making use of Information Technology.
iii. In clinical subjects the students shall undertake responsibility in management and
treatment of patients independently and deal with emergencies.
iv. The students shall have to undertake training in teaching technology and research method
and shall have to participate in the teaching and training programmes of under-graduate
students or internees in the respective subjects during the course of studies.
v. In the first year of the course, the student shall have to acquire knowledge in the applied
aspects of the fundamentals of Ayurveda.
vi. In the clinical training, the students shall have to acquire the knowledge of independent
work as a specialist.
vii. In the specialists of Shalya, the student shall have to undergo training of investigative
procedures, techniques and surgical performance of procedures and management in the
respective specialty.
viii.
10. DISSERTATION:
(1) The title of the dissertation along with the synopsis, with approval of the ethics committee
constituted by the institute as per Regulations of concerned University, shall be submitted to the
University within a period of six months from the date of admission to P.G. course.
(2) If the student fails to submit the title of dissertation and synopsis within the period specified
under sub regulation [1] his terms for final PG course will be extended for six months or more in
accordance with the time of submission of the synopsis to the University.
(3) The synopsis of the proposed scheme of work should indicate the familiarity of the student with
the proposed theme of work, the name of the department and the name and designation of the
guide or supervisor and co-guide, if any. The University should approve the synopsis not later
than three months after submission of the synopsis.
(4) For approving the title a scrutiny committee shall be constituted by the University.
(5) The University should display the approved synopsis of dissertation on their website.
(6) The subject of every dissertation shall be research, practical oriented, innovative and helpful in
the development of Ayurveda. The subject of the dissertation shall have relation with the subject
matter of the specialty.

(7) Once the title for dissertation is approved by the Scrutiny Committee of the University, the
student shall not be allowed to change the title of the proposed theme of work without permission
of the University.
(8) No student shall be allowed to submit the dissertation before six months of final year. However,
the student shall continue his or her regular study in the institution after submission of
dissertation to complete three years.
(9) The dissertation shall contain the methods and data of the research carried out by the student on
the problem selected by him and completed under the guidance of the teacher approved by the
University.
(10) The dissertation shall consist critical review of literature, methodology, results of the research,
discussion on the basis of research findings of the study summary conclusion, and references
cited in the dissertation should be suitable for publication.
(11) The dissertation shall consist of not less than forty thousand words.
(12) The dissertation shall contain, at the end, a summary of not more than one thousand five hundred
words and the conclusion not exceeding one thousand words.
(13) The guide or supervisor shall be a person of status of a Professor or Reader /Associate Professor,
Lecturer / Assistant Professor with five years University approved teaching experience in the
subject or three years as Co-guide.
(14) Five copies of the bound dissertation along with a certificate from the supervisor or guide should
reach the office of the Registrar of the University four months before the final examination.
(15) The dissertation shall be assessed by two external and one Internal examiners appointed by the
University.
(16) The dissertation shall be accepted only after the approval of examiners appointed under sub-
regulation (17) and in case of disapproval by one external examiner, the dissertation shall be
referred to third examiner.
(17) If the dissertation is not accepted by two external examiner, the same shall be returned to the
student with the remarks of the examiners and the student can resubmit the dissertation after
making necessary improvement in the light of examiners’ report to the University within a further
period of six months.
(18) The student shall be permitted to appear in the final examination of Post-graduate degree course
only after examiners appointed for the purpose have approved the dissertation.
11. EXAMINATION AND ASSESSMENT :
1. The post-graduate degree course shall have two University examinations in the following
manner :
a) The preliminary examination shall be conducted at the end of one academic year after
admission.
b) The final examination shall be conducted on completion of two academic year after
passing preliminary examination.
c) Examination shall ordinarily be held in the month of June or July and November or
December every year.
d) For being declared successful in the examination, student shall have to pass all the
subjects separately in preliminary examination.
e) The result of student shall be announced as pass or fail only.
f) If a student fails in one subject only in preliminary examination, he/she shall have
to pass in that subject before he/she is allowed to appear in the final examination.
g) If the student fails in the theory or practical in the final examination he/she can appear
the subsequent examination without requiring to submit a fresh dissertation.
h) The post-graduate degree shall be conferred after the dissertation is accepted and the
student passes the final examination.

2. The examination shall be aimed to test the clinical acumen, ability and working
knowledge of the student in the practical aspect of the speciality and his/her fitness to
work independently as a specialist.
3. The clinical examination shall aim at a careful assessment of the competence of the
student, so that his/her familiarity with Ayurveda and scientific literature in the speciality
could be judged.
4. The viva-voce part of the practical examination shall involve extensive discussion
on any aspect of subject/specialty.
12. SUBJECTS OF EXAMINATION :
(1) The preliminary examination at the end of one academic year after admission shall be conducted
in the following subjects :
Paper – I
Part – A – Research Methodology
Part – B – Bio/Medical Statistics
Paper – II
Part – A – Applied aspects of fundamentals regarding concerned subjects.
Part – B – Concerned subject.
(2) The student shall have to undergo training in the department concerned and shall maintain month-
wise record of the work done during the last two years of study in the specialty opted by him/her
as under:
i) Study of literature related to specialty.
ii) Regular clinical training in the hospital for student of clinical subject.
iii) Practical training of research work carried out in the department, for student of non
clinical subject.
iv) Active participation in various seminars, symposia and discussions.
v) Finalization of topic of dissertation and synopsis.
vi) The assessment of the work done during the first year on the above points shall be done
at the time of preliminary examination.
(3) The final examination [a] dissertation, [b] written papers, and [c] clinical/practical and oral
examination, as the case may be.
(4) There shall be four theory papers in each specialty and one practical or clinical and viva-voce
examination in the concerned specialty or group of sub-specialties selected by the student for
special study.
(5) The student shall have to publish/accepted at least one Research paper on the basis of his research
work in one Journals based on his dissertation and one paper presentation in Regional level
Seminar.
13. (A) APPOINTMENT OF EXAMINER :
The scheme of preliminary examination and final examination shall be as follows :–
i) The examiners shall not be appointed for a period of more than three years at a time and may
be re-appointed after an interval of two years.
ii) The examiners shall possess two years Post-Graduate teaching experience.
iii) The final examination shall be conducted by a team of two examiners (Retired or Serving)
out of which one should be external and minimum of Reader level.

(B) MEDIUM OF INSTRUCTION : Medium of instruction, dissertation and examination shall be Hindi, Sanskrit or English
14. ELIGIBLITY FOR ADMISSION TO P.G. COURSE:
i. A candidate to be admitted to P.G. course must be a permanent resident of Odisha.
ii. A candidate to be admitted to P.G. course must have completed the internship training.
iii. A person possessing the degree in Ayurveda of a University or Board or medical
institution specified in the second schedule of IMCC Act, 1970 shall be eligible for
admission in post-graduate degree course.
15. PROCEDURE FOR SUBMISSION OF APPLICATION FORM :
i. The candidate shall fill in the Application Form in his/her own handwriting neatly
affixing passport size photographs (coloured) at the appropriate spaces.
ii. Application Form complete in all respects along with the required documents should be
sent by Registered Post/Speed Post/Courier Service to “The Principal, Gopabandhu
Ayurveda Mahavidyalaya, Puri, V.I.P. Road, Dist – Puri – 752002” on or before the
last date for submission of Applications as indicated in the advertisement for the purpose.
The envelop containing the application form must be superscribed “APPLICATION
FOR ADMISSION INTO M.D./M.S. (Ay.) FOR THE SESSION 2018-19”.
iii. In-service candidates of central/State Government and student undergoing P.G. Training
in some other institution and seeking admission to P.G. courses, must produce “No
Objection Certificate”, from their employers/Heads of the institution, (Students under
going P.G. training in some other institution) as the case may be, in the format as in
Annexure – 1 at the time of admission. It is the responsibility of the candidates to obtain
and produce such certificate, failing which they will forfeit their claim for admission.
iv. DOCUMENTS :-
The following self attested copies of documents are to be attached to the Application
Form :-
a. Photocopy of AIAPGET – 2018 Hall Ticket/Admit Card.
b. Photocopy of AIAPGET – 2018 Rank Card.
c. Photocopy of the Board of Secondary Education Certificate or equivalent
certificate.
d. Photocopy of Mark Sheet of +2 / Intermediate Science or equivalent examination
certificate.
e. Photocopy of B.A.M.S. or equivalent Degree Certificate.
f. Photocopy of mark Sheet of final B.A.M.S. or equivalent examinations.
g. Photocopy of internship training completion certificate.
h. Photocopy of Nativity Certificate from the competent authority.
i. Photocopy of Cast Certificate in case of S.C. & S.T. candidate from the
competent authority.
j. Photocopy of P.H. ( Locomotor disabilities only) certificate from the competent
authority.
k. Photocopy of the License for practice of Ayurvedic Medicine along with updated
renewal.
l. Photocopy of “No Objection Certificate” (Annexure – 1) from the
employer/Head of the institution (in case of in-service candidates/students
undergoing P.G. training in some other institution.

16. SCRUTINY :
i. Principal of the college shall not be held responsible for postal delay/loss in respect of
receipt of application form.
ii. Incomplete application forms in any respect shall be liable for rejection and no
correspondence in this regard would be entertained.
16 (A) LEAVE :-
i. P.G. students will be allowed 15 days casual leave in an academic year but not
exceeding 10 days at a stretch.
ii. 15 days leave is permissible in an academic year on medical ground on submission of
medical certificate issued by a registered medical practitioner not below the rank of Asst.
Surgeon subject to the satisfaction of the authority.
iii. No stipend shall be paid if a student remains absent for a period more than the period
mentioned under Para (i) & (ii).
17. STIPEND:-
The direct P.G. students not employed under State Govt. or Central Govt. shall get monthly
stipend as will be decided by the Govt. of Odisha from time to time in accordance with the rules
and regulations applicable there on subject to satisfactory performance of their duties.

N:B :-
i. The fees are subject to modification from time to time as decided by the Govt. of Odisha.
ii. Particulars of the University fees and fees for examination, centre charges, late fee, fee
for Mark-sheet etc. shall be notified to the candidates by the Principal.
iii. Refundable fees such as caution money shall be collected in one installment at the time of
admission,
iv. Tuition fees shall be collected half yearly (every six month) i.e. on 5th of July and 5
th of
January of each academic year without fine and on the last working day of the concerned
month with a fine of Rs. 15/- per month.
v. Hostel dues collected on 15th July of every year without fine and there after with a fine of
Rs. 15/- for delay of one month or part thereof.
vi. Other annual dues shall be collected on 5th July of each academic year.
19. HOSTEL ACCOMODATION :
i. Hostel accommodation (for boys & girls) will be provided strictly on the basis of merit
subject to availability of seats in the hostel.
ii. Hostel accommodation, being limited, can’t be provided to all. Allotment of seats
in the hostels shall be made by the superintendent in consultation with the Principal.
iii. Students who are not allotted hostel seats shall have to arrange their own accommodation.
iv. Hostel caution money shall be deposited at the time allotment of seat in the hostel.
v. The boarders of the hostel shall have to strictly abide by the hostel rules and pay their
fees/dues including electricity and water charges regularly. Violation of hostel rules or
non-payment of prescribed fees/dues regularly shall make the boarder liable for expulsion
from hostel.
vi. Principal of G.A.M., Puri will be the final authority to grant and refuse admission in
hostel. No appeal will be entertained against his decision.
20. MISCELLANEOUS :-
i. P.G. students after admission should maintain strict discipline and devote entire period
in study and research activities. Any student whose behavior is found to be
detrimental to the interest of the institution will be penalized even to the extent of
expulsion.
ii. P.G. students will not be allowed to do any type of job or private practice outside this
institution during period of their P.G. training.
iii. A student will be liable for expulsion for offences involving disgraceful or dishonourable
conduct and persistence or willful violation of college/hostel rules, for in-subordination
and breach of discipline, or adopting unfair means in the examination or being involved
in ragging or such other act, which jeopardizes the interest and dignity of the institution.
iv. Students are forbidden to approach the higher authorities in any matter pertaining to the
institution without obtaining permission of the concerned H.O.D. and the principal.
v. Matters not covered by these rules will be decided by the principal of G.A.M., Puri
whose decision shall be final.
vi. During 2nd
year P.G. study there is provision of 2 weeks self funding study tour for
collecting study materials and exposure.
