Parable of the Good Samaritan

A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, who stripped him of his clothing, wounded him, and departed, leaving him for dead. Now by chance a certain priest came down that road. And when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. Likewise a Levite [temple assistant], when he arrived at the place, came and looked, and passed by on the other side. Притча о милосердном самаритянине

But a certain Samaritan [a people despised and shunned by the Jews of those days], as he journeyed, came where he was. And when he saw him, he had compassion. So he went to him, bandaged his wounds, brought him to an inn, and took care of him. On the next day, when he departed, he took out two denarii, gave them to the innkeeper, and said to him, “Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, when I come again, I will repay you.”

Самарянин [член этнической и религиозной группы, с которой иудеи избегали контактов] же некто, проезжая, нашёл на него и, увидев его, сжалился и, подойдя, перевязал ему раны, возливая масло и вино; и, посадив его на своего осла, привёз его в гостиницу и позаботился о нём. А на другой день, отъезжая, вынул два динария, дал содержателю гостиницы и сказал ему: «Позаботься о нём; и если издержишь что более, я, когда возвращусь, отдам тебе».

With the story of the Good Samaritan, Jesus taught that our neighbor is anyone who needs our help. If we have love, we can’t just pass by someone in need; we’ll take action, like the Samaritan did.

Историей о добром самарянине Иисус научил нас, что наш ближний – это любой человек, нуждающийся в нашей помощи. Если мы руководствуемся любовью, то не сможем пройти мимо нуждающегося и примем меры, как тот самарянин.

The Parable of the Rich Fool

A rich man’s farm produced a big crop, and he said to himself, “What can I do? I don’t have a place large enough to store everything.” Later, he said, “Now I know what I’ll do. I’ll tear down my barns and build bigger ones, where I can store all my grain and other goods.

Земля одного богача дала хороший урожай. И он рассуждал сам с собой: „Что мне делать? Мне негде хранить урожай”. И решил: „Сделаю вот что: снесу все мои амбары и построю бо́́́́льшие, и соберу в них всё зерно и всё своё добро”.

Но Бог сказал ему: „Глупец! Этой ночью ты умрёшь. Кому же достанется то, что ты заготовил?” Людям Иисус сказал: «Так всегда бывает с человеком, который копит для себя богатства, но не богат перед Богом. Будьте осторожны и берегитесь жадности во всех её проявлениях, потому что жизнь не зависит от вашего имущества, как бы богаты вы ни были».

The Parable of the Prodigal Son

Once a man had two sons. The younger son said to his father, “Give me my share of the property.” So the father divided his property between his two sons. Not long after that, the younger son packed up his things and left for a foreign country, where he wasted all his money in wild living. У одного человека было два сына. Однажды, младший сын сказал отцу: „Отец, отдай мне ту часть имения, которая мне причитается”. Отец разделил своё состояние между сыновьями. Вскоре, когда в той земле наступила засуха, и по всей стране начался голод, младший сын оказался в нужде. Он пошёл и нанялся на работу к одному жителю той страны. Тот послал его к себе на поле кормить свиней. Младший сын был так голоден, что рад бы был поесть корм для свиней. Наконец, сыну сказал сам себе: „Пойду к отцу своему и скажу ему: „Отец! Я больше недостоин называться твоим сыном, позволь же мне быть твоим слугой”. И он пошёл к отцу.

After he had spent everything, a bad famine spread through that whole land. Soon the son had nothing to eat. He went to work for a man in that country, and the man sent him out to take care of his pigs. He was so hungry that he would have been glad to eat what the pigs were eating. Finally, the son decided, "I will go home to my father and tell him, 'Father, I'm not good enough to be your son anymore; please let me be one of your servants.“ The son then left and started his journey home.

When he was still a ways away from his father's house, the father saw him. The father was filled with compassion for his son and ran up to him and hugged and kissed him. The father then said to the servants, “Hurry and bring the best clothes and put them on him. Give him a ring for his finger and sandals for his feet. Get the best calf and prepare it, so we can eat and celebrate. This son of mine was dead, but has now come back to life. He was lost and has now been found.” And they began to celebrate.

Когда он был ещё далеко, отец увидел его и сжалился над ним. Подбежав к сыну, он обнял его и расцеловал. Отец сказал слугам: „побыстрее принесите лучшую одежду и наденьте на него. Дайте перстень ему на руку и обувь на ноги. Станем праздновать и веселиться, потому что мой сын пропал и нашёлся”. И стали они веселиться.

No matter what has happened or what will happen, you will never lose your value in God’s eyes. To Him, you will always be priceless. Ведь что бы ни случилось, для Бога наше достоинство остаётся прежним. Каждого из нас Он считает бесценным.
