The Next 48hOURS • What’s Hot

Brian McKnight

In this regular column, we chat to some of SA’s premier personali-ties about their travel experienc-es and favourite local pastimes

and haunts. This week we feature SABC3’s ‘Win A Home’ and Good Hope FM in Cape Town presenter KHANYA SIYENGO.

What is your favourite travel desti-nation, and why?Few years back I had a chance to visit New York City. This place blew me away. Firstly, I’m a huge fan of the urban and hip hop culture. New York City is literally the birthplace of the culture.

What was your first international trip, and what do you remember most vividly about the experience? My first international trip was when I was about 9 or 10 years of age. My whole family relocated to Ohio in the USA. All I can remember really is the snow and the yellow huge school bus. I was really young and around that time Snoop Dog released his classic song, ‘Who Am I? (What’s My Name?)’.

What is the first thing you usually

do when you arrive at your desti-nation and you’re trying to get ac-climated?In my recent trips, I’ve picked up this routine of (purposefully) knowing my surroundings very well. So I dress down and walk around wherever I’m staying, talk to the staff at the ho-tel etc....essentially trying to blend in with people of the area, I guess you could say.

What for you is usually the best way

to soak up the culture you’re in?Blend in with everyone, park the car and hit the streets. In Zanzibar I ex-perienced Stone Town in this manner and I plan on going back very soon.

Flying – love it, or hate it?Love it. It’s the best time to clear your head. I hardly sleep, so I’m ei-ther reading a book or writing down notes of things I’d like to do and my goals etc.

What has been your favourite cui-sine that you have discovered on your travels?New York carrot cheesecake. I’ll pay anyone anything to have this brought me. It melts on the tongue and just tastes amazing.

You’ve got exactly R48 in your wal-let. Where do you go for lunch in Cape Town?A restaurant called Woza. I’ll have traditional beef stew with pap and a glass of water.

What is your speciality in the kitch-en?I’m working on this. For now, I’m mean with the microwave.

Describe your ideal night in, and out.Ideal night in: Lots of food. I eat quite a bit, so a full chicken for me, some great coffee and my computer normally work out. I’ll watch a mov-ie, most likely, but recently there’s been a lot of basketball on television, so I’ll watch that.Ideal night out: Find a great restau-

rant with a versatile menu and great vibe and Wi-Fi (laughs). Hopefully have company with me, eat and may-be go listen to some music, and I’m home by 1.30am most times.

What makes life worth living?Getting to know myself more each day. Trying new things and passing on knowledge and skills to others.

Travelling & Living with the stars

Fans of R&B music can catch multi award winning singer Brian McKnight in concert at Carnival City Festival Lawns on Saturday, September 19.

In addition to being a singer, song-writer and producer, McKnight has also hosted ‘Soul Session Countdown with Brian McKnight’ on BETJ. In addition, ‘The Brian McKnight Morning Show’ on KTWV the Wave Smooth Jazz radio station, was a Top 5 rated show two years running. McKnight has also used his vast in-dustry knowledge as a red carpet host for Extra! In 2007, McKnight stepped into Broadway with a successful run as Billy Flynn in ‘Chicago’. He was also a contestant on the Donald Trump hit show ‘Celebrity Apprentice’ and toured the US in 2009 in the play ‘Cheaper to Keep Her’ with Vivica A. Fox.

Born in Buffalo, New York, McK-night’s musical career began in child-hood when he became a member of his church choir and a bandleader for his high school, Sweet Home High School. By the age of 19, he signed his first recording deal with Mercury Records. In 1992, his self-titled album ‘Brian McKnight’ was released, followed by ‘I Remember You’ (1995) and ‘Anytime’ (1997). The truth is, I’m in love and love makes us better; it makes us come alive, and I wanted to convey that through this album in a very relatable, authentic way.”

*The concert will kick off at 7pm and is expected to last for 90 minutes.Tickets from R295 can be booked at Computicket and Shoprite Checkers outlets.

Jonathan Roxmouth, the multi-award winning star of local theatre, will perform three concerts entitled ‘From

The Footlights’, featuring a variety of hits from internationally acclaimed Broadway and West End musicals such as ‘The Phantom of the Opera’, ‘Les Misérables’ and ‘Jesus Christ Su-perstar’. The concerts will be taking place at the Teatro at Montecasino on Friday and Saturday, September 18 and 19, both commencing at 8pm; and on Sunday, September 20, at 2pm. (Tickets are on sale at Com-puticket.)

Roxmouth will be sharing a few musical surprises from some of his favourite artists who have made their mark on the musical theatre scene. Guest stars include Afrikaans “Kaapse Draai” singer and recording artist, Nádine; actress, singer and musician, Lindiwe Bungane; TV, stage and movie actress and comedienne, Trac-ey-Lee Oliver; and actor, singer and recording artist, Harry Sideropou-los. Roxmouth and his guest artists will be accompanied by an 18-piece Broadway big band under the baton of award-winning conductor and ar-ranger, Bryan Schimmel (‘Chicago’, ‘We Will Rock You’, ‘Jersey Boys’) who is also the arranger and co-pro-ducer of Roxmouth’s new album.

Concert-goers are sure to be en-

thralled by the repertoire of ‘From the Footlights’, which is resplen-dent with songs by the greatest composers in musical theatre his-tory, including Andrew Lloyd Web-ber (‘Phantom of the Opera’, ‘Cats’, ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’), Stephen Sondheim (‘Sweeney Todd’, ‘Com-pany’, ‘Into the Woods’), Kander & Ebb (‘Chicago’, ‘Cabaret’) and Jule

Styne (‘Funny Girl’, ‘Gypsy’); as well as some of the more contemporary composers like Jason Robert Brown (‘Songs For a New World’, ‘The Last Five Years’), Frank Wildhorn (‘Jekyll and Hyde’) and Marc Shaiman (‘Hair-spray’, ‘Catch Me If You Can’ and the TV Series ‘Smash’). The arrangements of these songs have been custom written for Roxmouth to flex his vo-

cal versatility and virtuosity to the max. These songs are also featured on Roxmouth’s latest album (released earlier this year) by the same name.

Nádine and Roxmouth played leading roles in the hit musical ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ and will reunite to perform the moving song from this musical, ‘I don’t know how to love him’. For those who are familiar with

the movie ‘Dreamgirls’ and the musi-cal by the same name, Bungane will sing the popular song ‘And I’m Tell-ing You I’m Not Going’.

Roxmouth began his professional musical theatre career in 2006 play-ing Vince Fontaine in ‘Grease’ and continued to play a number of lead-ing roles in many of the biggest mu-sical theatre productions staged in this country. Roles such as Gaston in ‘Beauty and the Beast’; Judas Iscariot in ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ and Joe Gillis in ‘Sunset Boulevard’ and Tony in ‘West Side Story’, which most re-cently firmly established Roxmouth as one of South Africa’s biggest stars of the stage.

It was his powerful performance as the Phantom in ‘The Phantom of the Opera’ that made critics and the public alike take special note of the artist’s talents.

Aside from musical theatre, Rox-mouth has also performed in the popular musical revues ‘A Handful of Keys’, ‘Topsy-Turvy’, ‘Noel and Gertie’ and ‘Hats Off!’. Recent shows by Roxmouth include ‘Call Me Lee’ and country-wide sold-out perfor-mances of his one-man show, ‘Stage by Stage’.

Sweetly simple production turns clichéd story trope on its headSHOW: UHAMBO – THE JOURNEYCAST: SMAL NDABA, MASIZA MBALI, ANDRIES MBALI, SABELO SEKGOTO,MAHLODI RAKOTSOANE, DUMASANI MHLANGADIRECTORS: PHYLLIS KLOTZ AND SMAL NDABAVENUE: ARENA, SOUTH AFRICAN STATE THEATRE, PRETORIA, UNTIL SEPTEMBER 25REVIEWER: PETER FELDMAN

Sibikwa, the visionary arts centre in Benoni, Gauteng, promotes quality arts education and theatre perfor-mances aimed at younger audiences. It is spearheaded by theatre stalwarts Phyllis Klotz and Smal Ndaba, who conjure up plays that are meaningful and educational.

The company was established in 1988 during the State of Emergency and tremendous political upheaval. Its aim was to provide the youth with focus and hope.

Now, some 27 years later, the company is as strong as ever and opening the eyes of the youth to South Africa’s heritage through the-atre.

‘Uhambo – The Journey’ is a sweet, unsophisticated story about a 14 year-old boy named Mzamo (Ma-siza Mbali) who lives in a rural area with his granny. His parents are in Johannesburg trying to earn a living.

When granny dies, the naive Ma-siza undertakes a journey by train to Johannesburg to find his mother and father, a plotline that has been utilised in many forms before. Many of the youngsters arriving in Johan-nesburg from rural areas looking for a better life often end up on the streets, but young Mzamo’s journey is different. It is filled with wonder-ment and joy, with lessons to be

learnt around each corner. An authentic little thatched Af-

rican hut serves as part of the set. In it sits an old man listening to a crackling radio. On the wall are two pictures of Madiba in boxing gear.

This old man is Masiza (Smal Ndaba) and he is listening to a ra-dio which is broadcasting Nelson Mandela’s inauguration speech, with Madiba’s distinctive tones beaming forth.

Masiza begins to recount his own journey in the 1950s when Sophia-town pulsed with energy, the she-beens did booming business and the gangster culture dominated life. It is into this pulsating environment that young Masiza found himself. Lost and bewildered at the station, the wide-eyed youngster is befriended by Ma Pinkie (Andries Mbali), a she-been queen, and thus a whole new

world suddenly opens up for the im-pressionable youngster.

The story is simply told, with few stage props, but the acting from the ensemble is energetic and effective with the all-male cast morphing into different characters. The direc-tors use music and dance – Mzamo plays the penny whistle – to enhance the experience and it enchants in its own simple, direct way.

Younger audiences will find much to gain from this tale which also em-braces the terrible mining disaster at Coalbrook, on the West Rand, in 1960. It’s a valuable history lesson portrayed through a blend of music, dance, dialogue and drama.

Who’s who of the jazz world ready to rock SandtonSome of the world’s top jazz expo-nents will be gathering in Johan-nesburg next week for the annual Standard Bank Joy of Jazz event, and these include Marcus Miller, The Yellow Jackets, Peabo Bryson, Larry Carlton and Dee Alexander. For the second year, the event will be staged at the Sandton Convention Centre and it will take place from Thursday to Saturday, September 24 to 26.

This year the organisers have not only selected a mix of popular art-ists alongside some of the classi-cal greats, but have also sought to stretch audiences’ imaginations with new musical concepts and collabora-tions.

The festival also boasts an historic collaboration between two giants of song, Hugh Masekela and Oliver Mtukudzi from Zimbabwe. The per-formance promises to blend kindred musical styles from Zimbabwe and South Africa, which have fed into each other for generations.

A significant signing this year is that of American jazz vocalist Cecile McLorin Salvant who at 28 has been

lauded as a major star of the genre. Salvant won first prize in the Thelo-nious Monk International Jazz Com-petition in 2010 and won four cat-egories in the 2014 Downbeat Critics Poll: Jazz Album of the Year, Female Vocalist, Rising Star - Jazz Artist and Rising Star - Female Vocalist. She was also nominated for a Grammy Award in 2014 for her album ‘Wom-anChild’.

The exciting line-up also includes Mozambican Wanda Baloyi, who will be performing with her father Jaco Maria. There is also New York based vocalist Dwight Trible, vocalist Dee Alexander who is equally at home with blues, soul and gospel music, and elder jazz bassist, William Parker, whose work with the late Zim Ngqa-wana’s New York outfit, The Collec-tive Quartet, has made him an hon-orary local and this makes his visit a musical homecoming.

He has sold over 30 million albums world-wide and will be performing this weekend for one night only in Johannesburg.19 Sept @ 7pm

Rebels of ballroom, Burn the Floor, are back in Jozi with a new production that is currently thrilling audiences at the Joburg

Theatre. Catch their latest showcase, ‘Fire in the Ballroom’, on the Mandela stage for a limited season until October 3.

Crafted over the past two years by choreographers Jason Gilkison and Peta Roby, the production most recently performed to rapturous European and American audiences.

“The new show is totally different than our last production that came to Joburg,” Burn the Floor Executive Pro-ducer Nic Notley has said.

“It has the same rebellious spirit, though more daring with a more theatri-cal rock angle. We have also designed a new set, new costumes and new music including Santana, Janis Joplin, Chris-tina Aguilera and Led Zeppelin,” added Notley.

Burn the Floor has the reputation of being the “world’s toughest dance show” and the dancers are handpicked to em-brace a new Latin American feel.

The producers have been delighted to add a South African performer on the world tour, namely ‘Strictly Come Danc-ing’ runner up Johannes Radebe, who has joined the cast as a fully-fledged member.

Radebe, along with his ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ celebrity partner Leigh-Anne Williams, had the South African televi-sion viewing public on the edge of their

seats each week with their deft dance moves and crept into everyone’s hearts as a firm favourite, right up until they were declared runners-up in the final held on August 7.

Along with his dance partner Jeanne Swart, he was crowned SA National Champion in 2014. He made it to the fi-nals of ‘Strictly Come Dancing 7’ in 2014 and repeated that achievement in 2015.

“Johannes is a choreographer’s dream

and with his spellbinding charisma and dance skills to match, it does not get a lot better. The audiences are in for a vi-sual treat – South Africa has some ex-traordinary dance talent that I want the world to see,” says Peta Roby, director of Burn the Floor.

Radebe described ‘Fire in the Ball-room’ as “gloriously sinful” in a recent interview with the Next 48hOURS, adding that it is “a fun, new, exciting reinvention

of ballroom and Latin American dancing, with elements of different dance styles. The show appeals to all ages, is captivat-ing, current, sexy and passionate - you don’t want to miss it.”

On being part of the “world’s tough-est dance show”, the dancing star had the following to say: “It’s 10 to 12 hours a day, six days a week, of intense danc-ing and physical training. We are the fittest bunch of dancers and there’s no stopping, because you’re surrounded by world champs. We even dance in our hotel rooms at night after rehearsals as there’s no room for error, hence the world class standard.”

* Performances take place from Tuesdays to Fridays at 8pm; Saturdays at 3pm and 8pm; and Sundays at 2pm.Tickets are exclusively available at www.joburgtheatre.com; or by calling 0861 670 670. Fans can be rest assured that Maiden will be pulling out all the stops

Rock legends Iron Maiden, whose new studio double album ‘The Book Of Souls’ debuted at No 4 in South

Africa, will make a much antici-pated return in May, 2016, to the country on their enormous Boeing 747-400 jumbo jet Ed Force One, piloted by vocalist Bruce Dickinson and carrying band, crew and stage production and equipment.

Maiden will play at the Jo-hannesburg Carnival City Festival Lawns on May 21.

“We cannot wait to get back out on tour. When we start in the USA in late February it will be 19 months since our last show at So-nisphere in the UK so we are raring to go. Maiden thrive on touring and getting out to our fans - it’s what we do best - so it will be a

great feeling to board our new Jumbo Ed Force One with the crew and the gear and head round the globe and get back on stage for you guys,” says Dickinson.

“I’m especially delighted to be coming to South Africa, as al-though the band has played here before, it’ll be the first time that Adrian Smith and myself will be touring here as part of Iron Maid-en, so we’re really looking forward to seeing all our fans!”

“Of course we haven’t decided on the set list as yet and won’t un-til we start rehearsing, but we really look forward to playing a number of new songs live, especially as the recording was so much live. How-ever, as it’s been a while since we saw you all. I am sure we will in-clude plenty of older fan favourites

too. I think the fans will be delight-ed by what we have in mind. We are also in the middle of creating the new show and rest assured we are working hard to bring you all something spectacular; something with a lot of heart. You certainly deserve it for your patience,” adds the singer.

The support band on The Book Of Souls World Tour will be The Raven Age.

* Tickets go on-sale on Thursday, September 17, at 9am from big-concerts.co.za; or Computicket. There will be an exclusive pre-sale for Iron Maiden Fan Club members, details of which can be found on www.ironmaiden.com. Ticket prices range from R620 to R905.

‘IT IS AN ENTHRALLING LAUGH RIOT WITH A DOSE OF GLAMOUR, MUSIC, DANCE AND COMEDY’ - BOMBAY TIMES

Gong Li in ‘Coming Home’

FILM: MAXCAST: JOSH WIGGINS, LAUREN GRAHAM, THOMAS HADEN CHURCH, ROBBIE AMELL, LUKE KLEINTANK, DEJON LAqUAKE, MIA XIT-LALI, CARLOSDIRECTOR: BOAZ YAKIN

A precision-trained military dog, Max serves on the frontlines in Afghanistan alongside his han-dler, U.S. Marine Kyle Wincott.

But when things go terribly wrong on manoeuvres, Kyle is mortally wounded and Max, traumatized by the loss of his best friend, is unable to remain in service.

Sent stateside, the only human he seems willing to connect with is Kyle’s teenage brother, Justin (Josh Wiggins), so Max is saved when he is adopted by Kyle’s family. But Justin has issues of his own, including living up to his father’s expec-tations, and he isn’t interested in taking responsibility for his brother’s troubled dog. However, Max may be Justin’s only chance to discover what really happened to his brother that day on the front, and with the help of Carmen, a tough-talking young teen who has a way with dogs, Justin begins to appreciate his canine companion.

Justin’s growing trust in Max helps the four-legged veteran revert back to his he-roic self, and as the pair race to unravel the mystery, they find more excitement - and danger - than they bargained for. But they each might also find an unlikely new best friend…in each other.

“When people connect with an animal there’s a primal bond that often goes be-yond what we experience with other peo-ple,” says Boaz Yakin, the co-writer/direc-tor/executive producer of ‘Max’. That was the initial inspiration for the movie, which follows the journey of a military working dog (MWD) whose U.S. Marine handler loses his life in Afghanistan. Traumatized, the dog is adopted by the family the Ma-rine left behind.

Yakin, a self-proclaimed dog-lover at-tests, “I wanted to tell a story that was

emotional and heightened, while still keeping it rooted in reality.” He turned to long-time friend Sheldon Lettich, who co-wrote the screenplay.

“Sheldon is a Marine Corps Vietnam Veteran and brought in the idea of using MWD’s. These dogs risk their lives, or have their lives put at risk, going far ahead of their units in order to literally smell out danger,” he adds.

That instinct was reinforced when Ya-kin and Lettich watched one of the many viral videos of MWDs lying mournfully beside their handler’s casket at their fu-nerals, loyal to the end and beyond. Such videos have touched a deep chord in mil-lions of viewers around the world.

Lettich shares, “When we saw the vid-eo of the MWD grieving over his partner, we knew that was the core of our canine hero.”

The decision to make Max a Belgian Malinois, instead of a more familiar breed such as a German Shepherd, was informed by the fact that the Malinois has become the breed of choice to serve as MWDs for military forces and law enforcement agencies across the United States and throughout the world. Leaner than a Ger-

man Shepherd, the highly focused dogs, when trained, can smell drugs and bombs and find bodies. They can be deadly and are trusted to guard the White House and the President of the United States.

Before writing, Yakin and Lettich ob-served the dogs in action at the Camp

Pendleton Marine Corps Base K9 Unit in California. Driven to hunt and capture prey, the Malinois has a 270-degree field of vision and the force of its bite equals 1400 pounds per square inch. It can run 30 miles per hour and withstand the heat of the desert.

But what happens when a MWD is unable to work anymore due to injuries, stress or trauma, which can cause Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)? Thanks to Robby’s Law, which went into effect in 2000, MWDs are no longer simply eu-thanized. They can be adopted by their handlers or other former handlers.

They also found that some MWDs have also been adopted by the civilian families of dog handlers who had been killed in either Iraq or Afghanistan. That interested Lettich, who has also owned several Bel-gian Malinois, and knows from personal experience that the breed is highly en-ergetic, intelligent, and extremely task-oriented. “It’s like a human coming back, it’s an adjustment. We wanted to follow a fictional dog home stateside after his handler’s death and see where that took the dog - and the family,” he explains.

FILM: EVERESTCAST: JAKE GYLLENHAAL, EMILY WATSON, JASON CLARKE, JOHN HAWKES, JOSH BROLIN, KEIRA KNIGHTLEY, ROBIN WRIGHT AND SAM WORTHING-TONDIRECTOR: BALTASAR KORMAKUR

Based on the real events of the 1996 Mount Everest disaster, this thriller focuses on two different expeditions that go on a mission to climb the world’s highest mountain. Due to the amount of people attempting the climb at once and the lack of fixed ropes placed at strategic points in advance, the climbers find themselves in a bottleneck as they try to sum-mit, delaying their journey, and causing disas-trous consequences.

The summit of Mount Everest, the mighti-

est mountain on Earth, is more than five miles above sea level, close to the cruising altitude of a 747 jumbo jet. Its fearsome and unforgiving peak has hosted thousands of daring climbers who have felt compelled to rise to the greatest challenge in mountaineering. The tragic events in May 1996 represented, at that time, the deadliest climb in Everest’s history. The world’s media were transfixed by this story of human endurance, which became the subject of best-selling books and documentaries, often with contradicting accounts of the events.

Working Title producer Tim Bevan first became interested in the story when he read Jon Krakauer’s ‘Into Thin Air’ soon after it was published in 1997. Krakauer, a journalist who had been part of Rob Hall’s Adventure Consul-tants team on the mountain that May, had first

documented the events for an article in Out-side magazine. Bevan’s producing partner, Eric Fellner, shared his enthusiasm for the project; they discovered that Universal Pictures, with which Working Title has a long-term distribu-tion agreement, coincidentally owned other properties relating to the events.

These included Beck Weathers’ ‘Left for Dead: My Journey Home from Everest’, from which the film draws inspiration, as well as the transcript of the final satellite phone con-versation between Rob Hall and his wife, Jan Arnold. While the families of the climbers in-volved had remained mostly quiet about the tragic events over the years, they maintained an ongoing dialogue with the filmmakers, working toward an appropriate time for a feature-film reimagining of the events to be made.

Considering the lofty goals that director Baltasar Kormakur and his producers set for those who would be cast in ‘Everest’, they knew there was no better way to achieve them than to take the actors on that journey themselves.

The director explains what was important to him in looking for the ideal talent: “I needed the cast to face the elements and deal with their fears. To pull all this off it meant that there was no easy way out. To shoot in the foothills of Everest in high altitude we had to trek up there ourselves.”

The challenges included shooting -30 C in the Val Senales, 12 to14 hours a day for six weeks, as well as creating a giant freezer on stage so real snow could be blown on the ac-tors. “These are only few of the things we did to give it our all. But if you felt sorry for your-self, all you had to do was to remember the real people and what they went through in reality,” adds Kormakur. He reflects, “Ultimately, all this struggle wouldn’t be worth much if the story of Rob Hall and Jan, Beck, Doug, Scott Fischer, Anatoli and all the others was not handled in a truthful manner.”

This Chinese, Mandarin-language drama stars Gong Li as a middle-aged woman struggling from amnesia in the aftermath of China’s Cul-tural Revolution, a time that was responsible for ripping her family apart. Her professor husband (Chen Daoming), who was impris-oned for being an academic, is released from prison and attempts to reconnect with his wife, pretending to be a host of strangers in order to be constantly able to make contact with her.Jake Gyllenhaal in ‘Everest’

The Next 48hOURS • Fooding Around

‘Raising Superheroes’, the follow-up title to ‘The Real Meal Revolution’, is a “real food” cookbook that pro-vides parents with the right dietary and nutritional advice and recipes to raise the healthiest, brightest kids possible.

‘The Real Meal Revolution’ was all about taking on the global obe-sity epidemic with a revolutionary approach to eating; it challenged ingrained beliefs, it sold (and still sells) in record-breaking numbers throughout South Africa, and it

changed people’s lives. With ‘Rais-ing Superheroes’ the authors have now set out to revolutionise the way we feed our children. It’s time, they believe, to challenge the kids’ food industry and our old assumptions; it’s time to give our children the best nutrition possible, and the best start in life.

‘Raising Superheroes’ is not a Banting cookbook, and it doesn’t of-fer no-carb eating for kids. But – in advocating low-sugar, low-refined-carb, “real” food eating – it is the ‘Real Meal Revolution’s’ next step in its attempts to change the world.

Professor Tim Noakes is currently the most high-profile scientist in South Africa, and the figurehead of the original ‘Real Meal Revolution’. Jonno Proudfoot is the driving force behind the brand. Bridget Surtees is a registered dietitian specialising in paediatric nutrition, with 20 years worth of experience in major South African, London and Sydney hospi-tals.

The Africology range of prod-ucts

By RoxyKEmail: [email protected]

Summer is practically on our doorstop and this is the time to pamper your body with nourishing body butters, re-

freshing shower gels and exfoliating body scrubs. We also need to get in shape to wear a swimsuit and that means a lot of work to be included into your beauty regimen. As the weather warms and the humidity rockets, you would need products that are packed with nutrients that tone and firm the skin, giving you optimal results.

I searched for products that are natural and gentle on the skin and the Africology range is considered the leading natural, eco-friendly and holistic skincare option. To prep the body, the range has a body scrub

which is a blend of walnut and marula shell powder that provides a gentle, chemical-free exfoliator. The tiny micro beads are infused with geranium, neroli, sweet orange and lemon essential oils. This gently ex-foliates and removes dead skin while nourishing and replenishing moisture and oils back onto the skin, leaving it smooth and moisturized. The vi-tamins and minerals such as linoleic acid, vitamin A, calcium, potassium, iron and phosphate are penetrated into the skin and this contributes to the general well being of the cell membranes. This body scrub buffs away dry skin and impurities and preps the skin for moisturizing and polishing. The body gel contains yuc-ca to increase cell growth and soothe irritation. Extracts of gentle soapwort cleanses without stripping the skin of its natural oils. Aloe ferox soothes and moisturizers the skin, leaving it soft and supple.

It is recommended for all skin

types. The easy pump action bottle ensures that there is no wastage and just the exact amount is needed to give the body an overall cleanse and hydrated feel.

The body butter is rich in co-coa butter and shea, which work to soften and protect, while the canola oils heal and repair barriers while soothing inflammation. This thick, quick absorbing cream promotes cell regeneration and blood circulation, which in turn rejuvenates dry and aging skin.

I would recommend that you ditch your ordinary body lotions for this super rich body butter, which leaves your skin feeling moist and silky. The smell of the body wash is also uplift-ing and invigorating, aiding in feel-ing relaxed and calm.

If you really want to prep your body for the summer, then you should try the Africology slimming detox cream. This thick formula con-tains a botanical blend of seaweed,

ivy, horsetail (Equisetum), queen-meadow and biting clematis, which are all chosen for their effective slim-ming and firming action. The cream is also enriched with guarana extract, cysteic acid and pantetheine sulfo-nate, which trigger cell processes that stimulate the mitochondria to burn excess fat. This detoxing cream is most effective after body brushing or exfoliation.

Since all africology products are fragranced with pure essential oils it is safe to use every day. which should make every bath time feel special. Your body will feel polished, moistur-ized, smooth and toned after use.

WIn!To stand a chance to win some of these fabulous skin hydrating products, send your name and “africology” in the subject line in an e-mail to [email protected] before 10am on Monday, Septem-ber 21. Good luck!
