PASTOR’S PERSPECTIVE
“Two things in particular are a great help to amendment of life- a forcible withdrawal from any vice to which our nature inclines, and a fervent pursuit of any grace of which we stand in particu-lar need. Especially study to avoid and overcome those things that most displease you in other people.” (The Imitation of Christ, Kempis)
How often are we displeased by the words, choices, and behaviors of others? If you are like me, it happens more frequently than I would like to admit. Sometimes it occurs from watching the news or listening to the radio. Other times it happens just being “out and about.” We are in a time of frequent mudslinging, unfair characteri-zations, and division.
The above quote from Kempis was an invitation to me and I hope to us all to find Christ in the midst of those experiences of “displeasing.” May we respond to feeling insulted by wanting to lift another up in prayer. May we respond to a feeling of disgust as an opportunity to do something positive. If we are frustrated at an elect-ed official, may we use the moment to support another elected official.
Friends, I can be guilty of the word most often used to negatively describe the church- “hypocritical.” May I and may we all accept the freedom the Spirit offers us from our hypocrisy, becoming obedient to the God of Love. Our God comes to us in our brokenness and heals us and make us new, being moved from stone throwing to kingdom-building by God’s grace.
In Christ,
Pastor Jon

Thank you to the May Hospitality team. May is a rough month to serve Hos-pitality, yet you did it well and with grace. Thank you for all of you who showed up to donate food and/ or help serve it. It's not easy feeding our large and growing church family, but you served with joy. It was a pleasure serving with you. Thank you also to everyone who donated food for the Food and Fellowship meal. We also had several people who were not on the team, but came in and helped regardless. Thank you.

During the month of July, we will be reading several Bible stories. We will learn about Pentecost, how the world began and lots of things about Isaac, Jacob, Esau and Jacob’s wives. In addition, the children will be doing a simple activity, game or song to accompany the story and reinforce the lesson each week. We follow the scriptures listed in the Lectionary to select our focus for each Sunday.
CHILDREN’S SUNDAY SCHOOL:
In Sunday, School, the children will be learning about the time Jesus calmed the storm, how Jesus healed a bleeding woman, how Jesus restored a girl to life, the day Jesus walked on water, and the Transfiguration. We use the “Dig In” curriculum by Group Publishing.
Join us on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of every month 6:30-8:00 pm in the upper room.
